Chapter 2: Became A Member Of The Yun Family
Yun Jiao was still too young. Although she couldn’t see, she could hear the people in the room talking.
Moreover, she couldn’t understand what these people were saying.
Her stomach was very hungry.
Yun Jiao whimpered to express her dissatisfaction, her big, watery eyes and thick eyelashes fluttering.
Granny Yun looked at her small, furrowed brow and immediately felt heartache. “The child must be hungry. I remember the goats at Zhanzi’s house had kids. Eldest, go borrow some goat milk.”
Yun Linhai, also known as Yun Xiaowu’s father, immediately said, “Okay, I’ll go right now!”
Yun Jiao was so hungry she felt dizzy. Her small arms and legs moved unconsciously, and she really wanted to chew on something.
By the time Yun Jiao reacted, she had already put her chubby little hand in her mouth and was sucking on it.
She had no teeth!
Yun Jiao, with her not-yet-agile fingers, felt around a few times and finally gave up. Angrily, she spat out a big, round bubble from her mouth.
Then it popped with a “pop.”
“Little sister is eating her finger and blowing bubbles!”
The youngest, Yun Xiaojiu, was lying at the head of the bed. At only five years old, he stared at the soft, beautiful baby girl and giggled, thinking his sister was so cuddly and cute.
Yun Jiao’s black eyes widened. She looked at the child who had come closer, her clear pupils full of curiosity.
Was this the legendary human?
Yun Jiao, who had never been ashore in her life, was very unfamiliar with the organism known as a human.
Yun Xiaowu squeezed over and pushed his younger brother aside.
“Sister, look at me. I’m your Fifth Brother, the brother who found you.”
Yun Jiao’s big eyes darted around and indeed landed on him. Yun Xiaowu immediately became happy like an idiot.
“Poor thing, you must be so hungry. Let’s make do with some rice soup for now.”
Yun Jiao felt herself being gently picked up by someone, followed by a fragrance. Her survival instinct made her eat greedily.
She even choked.
Old Madam Yun quickly helped her catch her breath.
“Such a good-looking child, why would someone heartlessly abandon her?”
Old Madam Yun found herself liking this little baby more and more.
Yun Jiao stared at the rice soup. What is this thing? It tastes kind of good.
Have another bite.
“Good child, we won’t drink this. You’ll have goat milk later, okay?”
Yun Jiao made a few “ah ah” sounds, her soft little hands holding onto the bowl, which was already empty, refusing to let go. She wanted more.
She still looked a little fierce.
This made the whole family laugh.
“She’s quite strong.” Granny Yun was the happiest. Being strong and energetic proved she had a good body.
Yun Jiao didn’t understand what they were saying. She just protectively held the bowl in front of her, her big eyes staring at the food.
“Be good, Nannan. Let’s drink some goat milk.” Yun Linhai arrived with the goat milk, which had already been warmed.
It smelled so good, she immediately let go of the empty bowl.
The warm goat milk flowed into her mouth, and Yun Jiao eagerly swallowed.
Her mouth, not yet having grown teeth, bit down on the spoon.
She wanted to taste what the spoon was like, but her tender and clean gums couldn’t get a good grip.
Never mind, she’d keep drinking that white water.
The infant did nothing but eat and sleep, and the diapers were all changed by the Yun family members.
Yun Jiao was a merfolk, so you couldn’t expect her to have any sense of shame at this time.
In the end, Yun Jiao was kept. Although the Yun family was poor, they did their best to raise her. Even Aunt Xiao, who had previously said the family wasn’t suitable for another child, would still come to change her diapers and feed her, despite saying they couldn’t afford it.
Because of her, Yun Xiaowu and his brothers were no longer mischievous and causing trouble to go out and play every day. Instead, they would go tide pooling with the adults, find some seafood, and exclaim that they wanted to raise their little sister.
The Yun family exchanged some seafood found while tide pooling for goat milk almost every day.
Soon, everyone in Bailong Village knew that Yun Xianglin’s family had found and taken in a baby.
After confirming that no family had lost a child, Yun Xianglin’s family actually adopted the child!
This news truly shocked the entire Bailong Village.
“I heard it’s a baby girl. What were they thinking, raising a bringer of misfortune when they’re already so poor?”
“I saw Yun family’s boys carrying things to Uncle’s house every day to exchange for goat milk.”
“Does this family have a problem with their brains? Why are they so concerned about a baby girl they found?”
Yun Jiao didn’t know yet that she had become the talk of the aunties at the village mouth.
At this moment, she was widening her eyes, her pair of dark, bright pupils curiously looking at everything in this home.
It’s been a month since she was found and brought home.
Yun Jiao had a pretty good understanding of her current situation.
She had gone from a merfolk from the deep sea to a human, and a human infant at that.
Suddenly transforming from a familiar marine creature into a land creature felt a bit strange and uncomfortable.
Merfolk had a strong talent for language. Although she still couldn’t fully understand what these people were saying these days, she could basically recognize everyone in the Yun family.
This generation had nine children, all boys.
The eldest elders in the Yun family were Old Master Yun and Old Madam Yun. Below them were two sons, Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe, respectively.
Yun Linhai’s wife was Shen Yunlian. They had a total of five sons, with the first four born as twins.
Yun Linhe’s wife was Wang Mei. They also had four sons, all twins.
Their family’s genes for having twins were renowned throughout Bailong Village.
Although Yun Jiao was found, this family treated her exceptionally well.
Even though they were so poor that they themselves were thin, and the clothes they wore were patched to the point of looking like beggar’s rags, they would bring her goat milk every day.
But Yun Jiao wanted to eat those fragrant dishes even more. However, being an infant whose teeth hadn’t even grown in yet, she could only watch with longing, and even if she wanted to eat, the adults wouldn’t allow it.
She really wanted to grow up quickly; this body was too weak.
At five months old, Yun Jiao was placed in a homemade baby carrier by Mother Yun, Shen Yunlian, and taken tide pooling.
This was also Yun Jiao’s first time going out. She opened her big eyes and looked around curiously at everything.
Shen Yunlian, like the people here, had slightly darker skin, but her features were still very good-looking.
Behind her, her string of sons and nephews were equally thin, wearing clothes with many patches, and walking barefoot behind Mother Yun towards the beach.
Against the backdrop of these people, the fair, soft, and chubby baby Yun Jiao, like a baozi, drew particular attention.
Yun Jiao was easy to care for. In the absence of goat milk, she ate fish broth and rice water, and was very easy to raise.
Even as an infant, one could tell her delicate features had a hint of mixed-race refinement. Her hair was thick and soft, glossy black, and her eyes were large and as clear as a mountain spring. Upon closer inspection, one could see her pupils were not black, but a particularly deep blue-black.
Her skin was exceptionally fair, her small arms were chubby and segmented like lotus roots, like a doll figure. At this moment, she obediently stayed on Shen Yunlian’s back, looking around curiously, blowing bubbles from her mouth, which made her incredibly endearing.
People greeting Mother Yun along the way couldn’t help but cast their gazes on Little Yun Jiao.
“This baby is so beautiful, I’ve never seen such a good-looking baby before.”
“Her gaze is so lively, oh, she’s smiling too, and her smile is so gentle.”
Shen Yunlian, carrying Little Yun Jiao, didn’t stop smiling as she listened to these praises.
