Chapter 20: Jiaojiao Gives Out Marbles
The boy was truly stunned, with snot and tears streaming down his face, looking blankly.
“What are you doing?”
Seeing her grandson being yelled at, the old woman was unhappy.
“Such a bad temper for a little girl, how will you ever get married.”
Yun Chenxi was exasperated: “Then you don’t need to worry about it. You should worry about your own grandson and not spoil him.”
“What kind of person are you? Bullying an old woman and a child.”
“And what kind of person are you? Letting your own grandson beg, go beg on the street.”
“You…”
“All of you shut up, or I’ll throw you out of the car if you keep arguing.”
The driver lost his temper, and the old woman was still afraid of being left on the road.
Yun Chenxi rolled his eyes and quieted down.
With this incident, Yun Jiao was also unhappy.
Her good mood was ruined.
They felt a little better when they arrived in town. Yun Linhe even specifically touched the hidden money, feeling at ease when he felt the familiar wad.
“Quick, let’s go back.”
“I’ll carry the things, Second Brother, you carry Jiao Jiao and we’ll walk back.”
There were no public buses to their village from here, and no tractors either, so they could only walk back.
However, they hadn’t eaten yet, and their stomachs were rumbling with hunger.
Yun Linhe simply decided they should eat a bowl of noodles first.
Yun Jiao wasn’t very hungry; she had eaten two egg cakes on the bus.
But she still slurped down a bowl of noodles.
After eating their fill, she walked the first half of the way with her own short legs, and only let her Second Brother carry her back for the second half.
Upon returning to familiar surroundings, Yun Linhe and Yun Chenxi felt relaxed.
“Uncle, Second Brother, Sister!!!”
Before they even reached the village entrance, several naughty children yelled at the top of their lungs and ran over, accompanied by the barking of two big yellow dogs.
“You’re finally back!”
Yun Xiaowu and the others rushed over like cannonballs: “What did you buy? Let me see.”
“Sister, why didn’t you call me when you got up? If you had called me, I could have gone with you.”
Yun Chenxi smiled and put Yun Jiao down.
“Don’t even think about it. We’ll look when we get back.”
When they reached the village entrance, the old women and aunts sitting under the locust tree weaving nets craned their necks, their eyes practically fixed on the bag.
“Linhe, did you go to the city? What did you buy?”
Yun Linhe smiled and said, “Just bought a few things.”
“Granny Wang, you ladies continue chatting, we’re heading back.”
Saying that, he led Yun Xiaowu and the others away in a hurry, afraid that if they walked any slower, those pushy people would start rummaging through their bag to see what they had bought.
This kind of thing happened often in the village.
After returning home, all the Yun family children surrounded Yun Linhe and Yun Chenxi, bombarding them with questions, making them no less noisy than a flock of ducks.
“What did you buy? Is there any food?”
“Wow, it’s egg cake, I want to eat, I want to eat.”
“And White Rabbit Milk Candy, Uncle, how could you bear to spend so much.”
“Holy crap, canned food!!!”
Yun Xiaowu’s shout drew everyone’s attention to the two cans, their eyes shining.
Yun Chenxi lightly hit his troublesome younger brother on the head: “No swearing, I’ve told you this several times.”
The hit Yun Xiaowu didn’t care, excitedly jumping and hopping with the cans in hand.
“Canned food, canned food! This is meat, braised pork in sauce! This is yellow peach! Hahaha, I get to eat canned food too!”
These things were not cheap, especially the canned food, which made Old Man Yun and Old Lady Yun feel heartbroken.
“Why did you buy so much stuff, you spendthrifts! How much money did that cost?”
Saying that, Old Lady Yun unhappily slapped Yun Linhe’s arm a few times.
Yun Linhe scratched his head: “I just thought, since it’s a rare trip to the city.”
Yun Jiao said in a soft voice: “Grandma, it was Jiao Jiao who wanted to buy them.”
Granny Yun: “But you shouldn’t buy so much, it must have cost a lot of money.”
“Not much.”
Yun Jiao gestured with her little hands: “There were so many bills, Uncle only gave one to Jiao Jiao to use.”
After speaking, Yun Jiao took out the box of glass marbles and shook it, and a clear tinkling sound immediately came from inside.
“Brother, marbles.”
Hearing her words, the brothers immediately gathered around.
“Let me see, show me quickly.”
After opening it, the beautiful marbles immediately became the heart’s treasure of the boys.
“Glass marbles!”
Yun Jiao held a box of glass marbles.
“Ten marbles for each brother, Jiao Jiao is giving them out.”
She sat on a small stool, her little legs Curled up slightly with pride.
“Fifth Brother, you stand first, Sixth Brother second, and the other brothers line up according to size.”
The adults of the Yun family watched happily as Yun Jiao distributed the glass marbles.
Yun Xiaowu grinned widely, clasping his hands together.
“Sister, I want a red one, a blue one, three with patterns, and two white ones…”
Yun Xiaowu picked his first, and the ones behind stretched their necks, anxious that their favorites might be taken.
Yun Jiao’s fair little hands picked out the glass marbles, the glass beads looking like precious pearls in her hand.
“Here, for Fifth Brother.”
The same was true for the others.
After all five brothers had received theirs, she clapped her hands and started giving out the food.
If she didn’t give it out, Grandma and the others would definitely be reluctant to eat it.
“Jiao Jiao, don’t you have any glass marbles? I’ll give you three to play with.”
“I’ll give you three too,” Yun Liuliu came over.
The others did too.
Five times three meant their sister would have more glass marbles than them.
Yun Jiao shook her head: “No, I’ll watch my brothers play.”
This made the brothers incredibly touched; their sister was truly the best in the world.
Grabbing a handful of White Rabbit Milk Candy, Yun Jiao started handing them out again, running around the room.
Of course, she didn’t forget her own mouth, peeling one and popping it in.
Today could be said to be the happiest day for the Yun family’s children, with not only all sorts of delicious food but also fun things to play with.
Everything that was to be distributed was given out. Granny Yun took the rest and locked it up, planning to eat a little each day.
Yun Xiaowu and his brothers ran off with their marbles, most likely to show them off to other children in the village.
The adults in the family gathered together and then started talking about business.
Yun Linhe directly took out the money.
Seeing the money, the others in the family gasped and their eyes widened.
“This… so much?!”
Yun Linhe said joyfully: “Indeed, who would have thought that such a small bead would be so valuable.”
“We sold a total of 1500 yuan, spent ten yuan, and the rest is all here.”
The money for transportation back and forth, and the money for noodles were all from the family. Except for the ten yuan given to Yun Jiao, none of the money from selling the pearls had been touched.
Yun Jiao banged on the table: “Build a beautiful large house.”
“Okay, okay…”
Granny Yun wiped away the tears that welled up in her eyes: “We’ll build a large house!”
Old Master Yun said: “Now that both of you brothers are here, I’ll say it directly. This money will be used to build two houses, and once the houses are built, we will directly divide the family.”
