Chapter 40: Picking Prawns
Yun Jiao turned around and skillfully threw the sea centipede into her small bucket.
Then she saw her father and uncle standing behind her.
She tilted her head slightly, “Father, is the ci ba ready?”
Seeing Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe, whose small bucket was already almost full of sea centipedes: ……
Why was she so calm!
“Sea, sea centipedes?”
“It really is!”
Both of them stared at Yun Jiao in shock.
“You caught so many in such a short time?”
Although sea centipedes were a bit ugly and disgusting to look at, they were nutritious and delicious, and most importantly, hard to find. The purchase point offered good prices for them.
So many sea centipedes were discovered by Jiao Jiao while she was playing.
Yun Linhe wanted to laugh to the sky.
Their Jiao Jiao was truly a person of great deeds done quietly!
“Father, there are more here.”
Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe stopped caring about eating and quickly went over to catch them together.
Yun Jiao, on the other hand, stopped catching them and, holding the roasted ci ba handed to her by her father, sat on a nearby stone and ate it in small bites.
She ate while watching the two adults catch sea centipedes.
Swish…
A sea turtle emerged from the seawater, holding something dark in its mouth.
It crawled to Yun Jiao’s side and dropped the item to her.
It was a sea urchin.
It was a very large sea urchin.
“Is there more?”
The sea turtle nodded, indicating there were plenty more below.
Yun Jiao stared at the sea, wanting to dive in.
But her father and uncle would definitely not allow it.
Her eyes darted around; she wondered if she could ride the sea turtle back.
“Go catch a few more for me.”
But thinking about the sea turtle running back and forth, only being able to carry one at a time would be too troublesome.
So she thought for a moment, climbed onto the boat, and found a net bag from the boat.
“Here, take this to catch them. Catch more!”
She even taught the sea turtle how to use it.
“Did you learn?”
The sea turtle stared at her with its doudou eyes, looking foolish.
Yun Jiao: “Silly, you can’t even learn something this simple.”
Then she instructed it twice more.
“Try putting that stone inside.”
Yun Jiao’s little finger pointed at a small stone not far from it.
The sea turtle was very obedient, picked up the stone with its mouth, and dropped it into the net bag.
“That’s right!”
Yun Jiao clapped her hands: “Exactly, go now.”
The sea turtle then carried the net bag and dived back into the sea.
After seeing off the sea turtle, Yun Jiao went to look for the sea urchin that she had set aside and had not yet retrieved.
Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe also walked back. It sounded unbelievable, but the sea centipedes they, two adults, caught together were not as many as Yun Jiao caught by herself.
“Where did this sea urchin come from? Jiao Jiao, don’t move, absolutely don’t move.”
Yun Jiao was squatting beside the sea urchin, wanting to reach for it, when she was excitedly called to a halt by Yun Linhe and Yun Linhai.
She lifted her face, which was too exquisite, like it had natural beauty filters, and looked at them with innocent blue-black eyes.
“Getting pricked by this thing hurts a lot.”
Yun Linhai picked up the sea urchin with a pair of tongs.
Yun Jiao followed them: “I want to eat it, I’m hungry, I want to eat it…”
She very actively expressed her thoughts and kept muttering that she was hungry.
She looked pitiful.
“You weren’t full from the ci ba?”
Yun Jiao shook her head, staring at the sea urchin.
Actually, she was full; she mainly wanted to eat the sea urchin.
“Alright, Father will get scissors to open it for you.”
The sea urchin was very fresh. After trimming its spikes, it was safe. After opening, it was full of fresh sea urchin roe.
“Here, eat.”
Yun Jiao eagerly started eating, and it was indeed delicious~
Her big eyes narrowed in happiness.
After finishing, Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe, the brothers, wanted to continue exploring the island.
Yun Jiao naturally followed them.
The two adults wouldn’t be at ease leaving her here.
When they encountered difficult paths, they would carry Yun Jiao, and when the paths were not difficult, Yun Jiao would walk slowly behind them.
Occasionally, they would find mantis shrimp and crabs.
“This green crab is so big, it must be a jin.”
Yun Linhai was lucky to catch a large green crab, which looked as big as Yun Jiao’s small face when it was brandishing its claws.
“Father, there are so many shrimp below.”
Yun Jiao suddenly pointed at a reef below a section of the diving beach.
“And a lot of kelp.”
The two walked towards her, and in the direction Yun Jiao pointed, they saw the kelp, a large patch piled up on the shore.
But they didn’t see any shrimp.
Is Jiao Jiao’s eyesight that good?
“Let’s go down and see.”
Even if they didn’t find shrimp, they could still take the kelp back.
“Such a large patch of kelp!”
When they went down to that beach, they finally discovered the shrimp Yun Jiao had mentioned.
“They are prawns!”
And it was a whole school of prawns trapped on the beach.
As they approached, the prawns in the shallow water began to jump, likely startled.
All they had to do was bend down to catch them. What was the difference from picking them up for free?
“Let’s pick up the prawns first.”
Yun Linhai glanced at the sea surface: “Let’s hurry, these prawns will run away when the tide rises.”
As for the kelp over there, there was no need to worry. Even if the tide rose, the kelp wouldn’t grow legs and run away.
The three of them immediately crouched down, grabbing the prawns one by one and throwing them into the buckets.
The smiles on Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe’s faces were about to crack.
Had they hit the jackpot by coming out today? Mazu bless them, Dragon King bless them! They must go to the temple to burn incense and donate merit when they return!
As the tide was about to rise, Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe rushed to catch prawns.
Therefore, they didn’t notice that the child Yun Jiao, who was some distance away with her back to them, caught a few and threw them into the bucket, then caught one and stuffed it into her mouth.
The live prawns had their heads roughly twisted off, their shells expertly peeled, and then stuffed into her mouth.
Her small mouth moved rapidly, chewing and swallowing them.
When the tide rose, Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe regretfully watched as some of the prawns escaped into the sea. Carrying full buckets, they turned around, held Yun Jiao, and prepared to walk towards the upper part of the island.
“The tide is rising, we have to leave here.”
Yun Linhe: “Brother, give me the bucket, you carry Jiao Jiao.”
“Okay!”
When Yun Linhai picked up Yun Jiao, the little one still had half a shrimp stuffed in her mouth.
Yun Linhai: ∑(Д)
Yun Linhe had a similar expression.
Both of them stared at her in shock.
Yun Jiao chewed faster, her beautiful little face and big eyes looking at them with extreme innocence.
After finishing the shrimp, she even let out a small burp.
Yun Linhai pointed at her: “You…”
“Brother, don’t talk yet, the seawater is about to surge up, we need to leave first.”
Yun Linhai carried Yun Jiao and ran.
“Jiao Jiao, how much have you eaten?!”
Yun Linhai was worried. His daughter was good at everything, except for her bad habit of stuffing things into her mouth.
She had to take a bite of everything!
Yun Jiao burped again, her little belly was noticeably bigger, but she stubbornly argued: “Not much.”
She held the bucket: “I also caught a lot of shrimp.”
