Chapter 44: Physical Examination Results
Yun Jiao admired the pearl shaped like a fish tail, then handed it to Shen Yunlian.
“Mom, please keep this for Jiaojiao.”
She was afraid she might lose it if she kept it herself.
She needed to ask her Fourth Brother to make her a pretty little box, and in the future, that little box would be filled with things she liked.
Shen Yunlian took it: “Let’s not sell this pearl from Dad and Mom. It’s not round, so it probably won’t fetch a good price. We’ll make a necklace for Jiaojiao.”
The pearl’s shape and color were beautiful, and she felt it was suitable for Jiaojiao.
“Alright, you keep it for now. This was Jiaojiao’s from the start.”
The Flame Pearl that Yun Jiao had found earlier was sold to help everyone build houses. They weren’t in such urgent need of money now, so this pearl would be kept for her.
No one in the family objected.
Yun Jiao thus received her first pearl.
But she believed that in the future, she would definitely be able to find more and more beautiful pearls by her own ability.
By then, she’d have a pile, Grandma would have a pile, Mom would have a pile, and Aunt would have a pile.
If Grandpa and her brothers liked them, Jiaojiao wouldn’t mind sharing some.
While they were talking, Yun Jiao’s Eldest Brother and Second Brother returned.
However, the expressions on their faces were clearly not right.
“What’s the situation? Did you pass?”
Yun Chenxi clenched his hands at his sides: “Our spots were taken by someone else!”
His eyes were red, and his tone held both anger and grievance.
Yun Chendong was more steady: “Don’t speak rashly. This matter hasn’t been investigated clearly.”
Yun Chenxi: “How can we investigate? Sun Ao even came in front of us to show off!”
“What exactly happened?!”
Old Master Yun’s voice was stern.
The previously cheerful atmosphere also became subdued because of this matter.
Yun Chendong held back his somewhat impulsive younger brother and told the family the day’s events in a somber tone.
It turned out that the two of them went to get the results but received a notice that they had not passed.
They were unwilling and wanted the staff to check carefully, but the attitude of that staff member was also not good.
Just as they were leaving in disappointment, Sun Ao and Kong Zhen walked up to them and spoke sarcastically.
Yun Chendong said: “From their words, I gathered that even if they passed the physical examination, it would be impossible for them to join the army.”
Yun Chenxi’s voice was filled with anger: “Those two are the sons of the factory director in our county. I saw them during the physical examination. I could take on both of them by myself. If neither of us passed, then it’s even more impossible for those two. They probably snatched our spots and then came to flaunt it and annoy us!”
Otherwise, why would they target only the two brothers and not others?
If her Eldest Brother hadn’t stopped him, he would have wanted to beat up those two annoying brutes.
Wang Mei said angrily: “How can they do this? It’s not okay, we have to report this to the leader.”
“How do we report it? If they dare to do this, the family must have connections. How can we report it to the leader without any evidence?”
The atmosphere in the Yun family became depressed for a while.
Yun Chenxi hit the table.
“Are we just going to let it go?”
He was truly unwilling to have his dream blocked by villains like this.
While everyone was looking dejected and silent, Yun Jiao suddenly spoke: “Ask Uncle Wang.”
Everyone’s gaze turned to her.
“Uncle Wang, that Grandma.”
Yun Linhai had an epiphany and immediately knew who his daughter was referring to.
“You mean, that Leader Wang?”
They only knew Wang Jianlin was a leader, but they didn’t know his specific identity.
Yun Jiao nodded.
Yun Linhai seemed troubled: “This… frankly speaking, we’ve only met him once, so it might not be appropriate to ask for a favor.”
After that encounter, they hadn’t contacted the Wang family. After all, they were leaders, and they had just incidentally taken care of their old lady. They had received so many gifts when they left.
They couldn’t shamelessly go and try to build a relationship or curry favor with them.
Old Master Yun gritted his teeth: “For the sake of our two boys, I’ll put aside my pride and ask them.”
Yun Jiao: “Jiaojiao will go too.”
Yun Linhai nodded: “Yes, bring Jiaojiao along. The leader’s mother really likes Jiaojiao.”
Bringing Jiaojiao would make the conversation easier.
They weren’t asking the leader to do anything illegal, just to help them find out if Yun Chendong and Yun Chenxi had actually passed the assessment.
However, to visit them, they would need to bring a gift, and they were once again troubled by this matter.
“How about we just give some money?”
“No,” Old Master Yun shook his head.
“It would be bad if it were misunderstood.”
Regarding gifts, if it was too precious, they couldn’t afford it. A good leader with a proper attitude wouldn’t accept it. If it was too inexpensive, they themselves would feel too embarrassed to ask for help.
Yun Linhe scratched his head: “How about we go out to sea tomorrow morning and visit that island? It would be great if we could find something good. If not, let’s see if we can find some abalone. That’s not embarrassing and it’s presentable. We don’t have to pay for what we find ourselves.”
This was a good idea and received unanimous approval from the family.
“Sleep early tonight, and we’ll set off early tomorrow morning.”
“I want to go too, I want to go too.”
Yun Xiaowu and the others actively vied to go.
“Tomorrow won’t work. We’ll be in a hurry tomorrow and won’t have time to take care of you few little monkeys.”
“Who needs you to take care of us? I can take care of myself. Besides, if there are more people, won’t we find more things?”
“No.”
Under the strong suppression of the parents, Yun Xiaowu’s wish was unfulfilled. They were very unconvinced, but the children’s protests were useless.
With a solution to the problem, everyone’s mood relaxed a bit.
Today’s emotions had truly been a rollercoaster.
But no matter what, they still had to eat.
When the dishes were served, Yun Chendong and Yun Chenxi’s eyes widened at the sight of the steamed sea urchin and stir-fried abalone.
Are we living the good life now?!
Seeing their reaction, Wang Mei excitedly recounted the day’s achievements at sea.
While they were talking, Yun Jiao had already eagerly extended her small bowl.
Grandma Yun scooped a large spoonful of steamed sea urchin for her.
Sitting on the chair, her short legs happily swung back and forth. Holding her small spoon, she dug a spoonful of tender steamed sea urchin into her mouth, eating with such happiness that her big eyes curved into beautiful little crescents.
Seeing her, the adults at home felt many of their worries dissipate.
“Jiaojiao, eat a bite of this abalone then a bite of steamed sea urchin.”
Yun Jiao opened her small mouth, accepted the abalone fed by her Fifth Brother, then took a bite of steamed sea urchin, her right cheek bulging roundly.
“It’s super delicious!”
She was so satisfied.
If there was one thing that satisfied her most after becoming human, it was these delicacies on land.
Humans’ brains are really so intelligent that they can make so many things into incredibly delicious food.
With Yun Jiao around, the meal was relatively relaxed, and everyone temporarily forgot their worries.
