Chapter 65: Fighting A Large Snake
A group of children gathered together, chattering noisily.
Most people’s gazes fell on Yun Jiao.
It was no surprise; she was too conspicuous.
Humans are visual creatures, and children are no exception.
With the sudden appearance of such a good-looking little sister in their group, their voices softened.
“Yuanzi, is this the cousin you always talk about? Why is she so fair?”
They were dark-skinned, and standing next to her, they looked like charcoal babies just dug out of a coal mine.
Shen Xiuyuan was incredibly proud, showing Yun Jiao off everywhere.
“This is my cousin, isn’t she good-looking? I told you before and you didn’t believe me. She’s naturally this fair and can’t get tanned.”
Having such a good-looking sister made Shen Xiuyuan very popular among his friends.
Yun Xiaowu and the others felt the same way; they often showed off their own younger sisters to their village friends.
“What’s so great about that, I have a younger sister too.”
Shen Xiuyuan said proudly, “Is your sister like my Jiaojiao? Look at these big eyes, this chubby little face, these plump little arms and short legs…”
Yun Jiao: Alright, if you say any more, I’m going to get angry.
Fortunately, Shen Xiuyuan finished speaking before Yun Jiao got angry.
Finally, he concluded, “Your sisters can’t compare!”
Yun Jiao looked at her cousin, who was attracting so much animosity that several people looked like they wanted to beat him up.
She quietly moved a little farther away from him.
Yun Jiao’s gaze was fixed on the little sheep kneeling under the ewe, drinking milk.
“Jiaojiao, do you like the little sheep? You can touch my little sheep.”
Yun Xiaowu stood by, wanting to speak but hesitating.
His younger sister might like the little lamb, but she might also want to taste the goat milk.
“Jiaojiao, be more reserved.”
She couldn’t possibly fight with the little sheep for milk.
“Oh.”
Yun Jiao responded slowly and went to catch grasshoppers on the mountain as her first task.
Her second cousin said these things were edible.
Her older brothers and the village children ran around, each finding their own games to play.
Yun Xiaowu and the others took out their glass marbles and were immediately surrounded by a group of little boys, looking very proud.
“These marbles were bought for us by my younger sister.”
The group of children became even more envious of Yun Xiaowu and his brothers. What a divine younger sister!
Not only was she good-looking, but she also bought glass marbles for her brothers!
“Can we be Jiaojiao’s brothers?”
Yun Xiaowu and the others immediately became vigilant: “Don’t even think about it, only we can be Jiaojiao’s brothers!”
The person being talked about, Yun Jiao, sneezed. She ignored it and continued to lie in the grass, pressing down on a plump grasshopper with her chubby paws.
In just this short while, she had already caught five grasshoppers!
Shen Xiuyuan found some palm leaves and skillfully wove them into a small cage.
“Here, Jiaojiao, if you put the grasshoppers you catch in here, they won’t escape.”
Yun Jiao confirmed again and again: “Are these really delicious?”
Shen Xiuyuan nodded affirmatively: “Delicious. They’re good roasted, and even better fried.”
Okay, she would believe her cousin!
“Wild chickens, wild rabbits?”
They said they were going to the mountains to catch wild chickens and rabbits.
Shen Xiuyuan: “Let’s go. My older brother took me to the traps he dug in the mountains before, there must be a harvest.”
He tied the family’s sheep to a tree with a long rope and took Yun Jiao to see the harvest in the traps.
As for Yun Xiaowu and the others, they were addicted to playing marbles and didn’t go with them.
Yun Jiao happily followed her second cousin into the woods.
However, the unlucky Shen Xiuyuan checked three traps in a row and found no harvest.
Shen Xiuyuan scratched his head: “That shouldn’t be right.”
Shen Xiuyuan’s traps yielded nothing, but Yun Jiao, with her sharp eyes, spotted a rabbit running from a nearby patch of grass.
She immediately chased after it.
“Rabbit.”
Shen Xiuyuan perked up: “Where?”
He also followed closely behind.
They didn’t catch it; the rabbit ran into a hole.
Shen Xiuyuan rubbed his hands: “A rabbit hole, there might be more than one rabbit inside!”
“Wait, I’ll go around and see if there are any other rabbit holes nearby and block them up first.”
Shen Xiuyuan jumped as nimbly as a monkey and actually found four other rabbit holes.
He blocked up three of them and laughed with his hands on his hips.
“Ha… these little rabbits are quite cunning, digging so many holes, but they can’t escape my sharp eyes, Grandpa Shen!”
“Jiaojiao, I’ll light a fire to smoke the holes. You stand guard at the other opening and hold them down if any rabbits run out!”
“Don’t use your hands to press. You watch here first, I’ll go get the backpack.”
“Don’t run.”
Yun Jiao nodded: “I won’t run.”
She sat on the ground staring at the hole. Before Shen Xiuyuan arrived, she noticed something coming out of the hole.
The other holes were sealed by Shen Xiuyuan, so the rabbits inside could only rush out of this one in a panic.
Yun Jiao’s hands were quick, and she pressed down.
Before the wild rabbit could react, she clenched her little fists and hit it.
The gray rabbit’s four legs twitched, and it was directly knocked unconscious.
Immediately after, a second rabbit darted out.
Yun Jiao did the same, pressing with one hand and hitting with the other.
It was also knocked unconscious.
The third, the fourth…
A total of five rabbits ran out, and finally, a snake emerged from the rabbit hole.
It was a snake as thick as an arm.
Yun Jiao glanced at it. As the snake’s head emerged, she, without any fear, used her two little hands to press down on its head.
“Hiss hiss…”
The large snake struggled, its thick body trying to coil around Yun Jiao’s arm.
By the time Shen Xiuyuan arrived with a group of people, they saw Yun Jiao fighting with a large snake.
They had originally come to join the fun after hearing Shen Xiuyuan say he caught rabbits in a hole, but they didn’t expect to witness such a thrilling and exciting scene.
One person and one snake wrestled and rolled on the ground.
Yun Jiao held the snake’s head and smashed it against the ground repeatedly, while the snake’s body coiled around her.
“My goodness!”
Yun Xiaowu yelped.
“Jiaojiao, don’t be afraid, I’ll help you!”
“Ahhh! A snake, such a big snake!”
The only two young girls present screamed in fright.
The others also screamed and rushed forward to help.
In the end, the snake suffered a group beating and was killed.
Yun Jiao’s hair was messy, with some dead branches and leaves stuck in it. Her fair, chubby little face was a bit dirty, but her eyes were exceptionally bright and spirited.
“Wow… Jiaojiao is so amazing, fighting with such a big snake.”
“There are so many wild rabbits here too, did Jiaojiao catch them all?”
Yun Jiao modestly nodded her little head.
“I caught them.”
She said it without any modesty.
Yun Xiaoliu slowly tidied her hair.
“I wonder if there are any more in the rabbit holes, should we dig them open and see?”
Shen Yunxiu nodded: “Dig!”
With so many of them, it wouldn’t take much time to dig.
There were no adult rabbits in the rabbit holes, but there was a nest of baby rabbits.
“There are only three. The snake’s belly is large, so it must have eaten a few baby rabbits.”
Yun Jiao stared at two of the baby rabbits, one pure white and one pure black.
“I want these two.”
“We’ll trade them for the adult rabbits.”
The baby rabbits were dug up by everyone, so technically they all had a share, but they were hard to divide.
The adult rabbits and the snake were Yun Jiao’s spoils of war; even if others were envious and wanted them, they didn’t dare to snatch them.
Didn’t they see Yun Jiao’s older brothers were there?
Even though at their age they were shameless and had little morality, they knew they would get beaten if they tried to snatch them.
