Chapter 26: Spear In Hand, Charging Forward Relentlessly
The slaughter in the Geluolu Camp continued unabated.
Although caught off guard by the Four Fort Allied Army, the Geluolu People’s resistance did not stop in the slightest.
A Geluolu man lay in ambush on the ground, seizing the opportunity to leap up and knock a young man directly off his horseback.
Immediately after, the two began rolling and fighting on the ground.
The Geluolu man had just gained the upper hand, pinning the young Han man beneath him and preparing a heavy blow, when his body suddenly stiffened.
“Sizzle~”
An arrow shot from afar, piercing straight through the Geluolu man’s neck, with the front half protruding from his throat and the back half still embedded in the back of his head.
Just like a suckling pig about to be roasted.
The young man wiped the blood sprayed all over his face and shoved the Geluolu man’s corpse aside.
Looking up, he saw Li Xiao riding toward him with bow and arrow in hand.
“Da Long~”
The young man breathed a sigh of relief, his face full of relief at having survived the ordeal; at the critical moment, his brother-in-law had saved his life.
“Not injured, are you? Brother-in-law!” Li Xiao rode up quickly and asked.
The young man before him was around twenty years old.
He was Li Xiao’s brother-in-law, named Luo Meng!
His wife was Li Xiao’s eldest sister, Li Dafeng!
“I’m fine~”
Luo Meng spat a mouthful of congealed blood onto the ground, shook his head, and said, “Just got ambushed by a Geluolu, that dog bastard~”
Though a bit embarrassing, his brother-in-law had saved his life.
That Geluolu had been very skilled; if the fight continued, Luo Meng would have been at a disadvantage.
“Good, mount up, continue killing the enemy!”
Li Xiao nodded heavily, saying no unnecessary words.
He stowed his bow and arrow and drew his cavalry saber again.
After all, in this dark night, using a bow and arrow made it easy to hit one’s own people.
Spears and war sabers were far more effective.
Luo Meng remounted, gripping a spear, following close behind Li Xiao as they continued charging and killing.
After the earlier ambush, the young Luo Meng seemed somewhat more mature, becoming even more cautious when charging past obstacles.
“Pfft~”
Wielding the spear, he directly pierced a Geluolu man hiding behind a tent.
“Kill~”
Luo Meng’s face twisted in ferocity as he withdrew the spear, ignoring the falling corpse, and charged forward to kill more.
This sight made Li Xiao nod inwardly.
No man of the Northern Frontier was a coward!
Luo Meng simply lacked experience and was prone to losses!
But whether Luo Meng, Da Hu, Er Hu, or even Li Xiao himself, all had grown much in this war.
They had shed their former youth and naivety, donning bloodstained battle robes, gripping spears, and charging forward fearlessly~
On the battlefield, shouts of killing shook the heavens, screams rang out endlessly, and many Geluolu women and children were terrified by the scene, their cries and shouts adding to the merciless, brutal atmosphere.
Facing the Four Fort Allied Army’s powerful surprise attack, the Geluolu people in the camp were utterly unprepared, already routed and unable to mount any effective resistance, divided and surrounded by the Four Fort Allied Army and cut down one by one.
In a short time, the Four Fort Allied Army had pierced through the Geluolu East Camp and was charging toward the North Camp.
Here too it became a one-sided slaughter, with countless Geluolu people dying under the blades of the Four Fort Allied Army in the darkness.
In the middle of the Geluolu North Camp was a sheep pen enclosed by a fence.
But inside were not cattle and sheep, but a group of ragged people!
There were men and women~
At a glance, there were several hundred people!
Among them were Jin Prefecture Army soldiers captured by the Aslan Tribe in the Battle of North Mountain, as well as Han people originally from Sanhe Fort.
Many of their relatives had been killed by the Geluolu people; only these non-threatening Han people were temporarily imprisoned.
In the raging wind and rain, they had no shelter, wearing thin clothes and huddling together for warmth.
Many were injured and untreated; the corpses of the dead were fed to dogs by the Geluolu people.
The survivors received only meager food each day.
The Geluolu did this to prevent escapes and revolts, and also to force these Han people to submit and surrender.
These Han captives lived worse than beasts in the hands of the Geluolu people.
So when shouts of killing, screams, and the thundering of war horses rose from the East Camp.
The captives instantly erupted in commotion.
“Someone’s come to save us?”
“That’s right, someone’s killing their way in!”
“It’s our people, I hear someone shouting~”
“Hahaha~”
“We’re saved, let’s kill our way out~”
“Kill! Kill these Geluolu dog bastards!”
“Revenge!”
These captives were ragged, many injured, tormented by hunger and illness, shivering in the cold rain-night wind!
But at this moment, their hearts burned hot, their faces lit with excitement, some even with red eyes streaming tears!
They were Han people, but captured by the Geluolu due to an inexplicable defeat, enduring endless suffering in the Aslan Tribe.
Some could not withstand the torment and temptation, joining the Geluolu rebels.
But the persistence of these remaining people was ultimately worthwhile.
Now their fellow countrymen had finally arrived; they were saved, but as men of the Northern Frontier, they would not beg with wagging tails!
They would take revenge with their own hands!
The captives revolted!
A man covered in wounds led the charge out of the sheep pen; they tore off wood as weapons and launched a counterattack against the Geluolu people.
“Kill~”
The man’s face twisted in ferocity and madness as he thrust the sharp end of the wood at a Geluolu man.
“Pfft~”
The wood penetrated an inch into the Geluolu man’s body and went no further, but attacks from other captives followed immediately.
This Geluolu man was soon beaten to death by the chaotic blows!
The man picked up the Geluolu man’s saber, tossed the spear to someone nearby, and mounted the Geluolu man’s horse.
He shouted loudly to the many captives: “Kill our way out!”
They would hack off more Geluolu heads to avenge their fallen compatriots and lost dignity!
……
Meanwhile, inside Sanhe Fort, Aslan was jolted awake from sleep by the sound of the Four Fort Allied Army’s iron hooves.
He abruptly opened his eyes and sat up from the bed.
Turning to look inside the room, the woman still lay motionless on the floor like a corpse, devoid of life.
But Aslan no longer cared about that; his face changed dramatically.
He heard the increasingly clear thundering of war horses from afar, and the screams of herdsmen in the camp outside.
Aslan’s eyes blazed with rage; he didn’t even bother dressing, grabbing his weapon and rushing out of the room.
He shouted loudly: “Enemy attack~”
“Get up quickly, enemies are coming!”
“Mount up!”
“Follow me to kill out!”
It was just that tonight’s weather was bad; the thunder and rain masked the thundering of the horses.
Plus, the Aslan Tribe was preparing to set out tomorrow to attack Hedong Fort, so everyone had slept deeply tonight.
They never imagined enemies would appear in the dead of night, and only discovered them when they were already upon them.
“Damn it~”
Aslan mounted in fury without even dressing.
His mind raced with guesses about where these enemies came from.
The Jin Prefecture Army had been annihilated by them, so it couldn’t be Khitan people.
The Eastern Capital Army couldn’t arrive this fast either.
So it was either the Han people from the south or people from the other two Geluolu tribes.
For the Geluolu people never had friends; even between Geluolu tribes, infighting outweighed unity!
If the Moman Tribe or Qibi Tribe attacked him, Aslan wouldn’t be surprised at all.
“They’re courting death; I’ll chop off all their heads and make them into wine cups~” Aslan roared furiously in the dark night.
At this moment, facing the assault of six hundred iron cavalry and the revolt of captives in the camp, the Geluolu people in the North Camp, attacked from both front and rear, rapidly collapsed.
Unable to organize any effective resistance, they were subjected to a one-sided slaughter.
Blood stained the land of Sanhe Fort red; outside the fort, screams and cries filled the air everywhere.
The spear in Li Xiao’s hand was soaked in blood; this was already his third spear.
Riding his war horse into the Geluolu North Camp, the sharp spearhead pierced straight through a Geluolu woman wielding a saber.
In war, there are no men or women, only enemies!
“Charge into Sanhe Fort~”
Li Xiao pointed his spear toward Sanhe Fort and shouted loudly.
He then led the Hexi Fort men charging toward Sanhe Fort.
Though fighting still raged in the North Camp, the fate of these Geluolu people was sealed, facing a one-sided slaughter.
Now, only inside Sanhe Fort remained any Geluolu people.
Those were the nobles of the Geluolu Tribe; killing them would mean eliminating this Geluolu Tribe.
“Charge in~”
Luo Meng, Da Hu, and others followed beside Li Xiao, shouting ferociously.
Everyone was covered in blood and even minced meat, like a band of rakshasa demons emerged from the hell of slaughter.
“Boom boom boom boom~”
Masses of Four Fort troops followed Li Xiao and the others into Sanhe Fort, war horses thundering, exuding a terrifying aura that chilled the blood in this dark night.
As Li Dashan had said, to attack Sanhe Fort earlier, the Geluolu had filled many moats on the north side of Sanhe Fort, and knocked down many wall battlements.
Now, it conveniently aided the Four Fort Allied Army’s assault.
The iron cavalry surged into Sanhe Fort like massive waves; slaughter proceeded amid screams and roars rising and falling—this was a blood-soaked massacre!
Any Geluolu person sighted, even unarmed, was cut down by the Four Fort Allied Army if they posed any threat.
In single combat ability, Han people were no inferior to Geluolu people, and even stronger in this dark night surprise attack.
Under the Four Fort Allied Army’s relentless charges, the resisting Geluolu soldiers dwindled.
They couldn’t tell how many enemies there were, as if shouts of killing came from all directions.
The Geluolu inside Sanhe Fort were panic-stricken and unwilling to fight; many just wanted to flee with their families.
Inside the city, chopping sounds and screams filled the air everywhere, with the incessant neighing of war horses.
The Geluolu retreated step by step, their morale utterly collapsed.
