Chapter 89: Incarnation Of The Sun
Mine, Underground Level 1.
Lei Wen returned to the underground passage he had found last time.
He and Geralt stood before a giant stone block carved with strange patterns, looking at the ancient sun-like pattern on it. Lei Wen couldn’t help but ask:
“Geralt, do you know what civilizations existed on this land before the Aindook Kingdom was established?”
Geralt recalled carefully and then replied:
“Your Highness, as far as I know, before the Aindook Kingdom was established, this land was ruled by an ancient nation called the Bys Empire, but these markings do not seem to be from them.”
“What about even earlier?” Lei Wen asked again.
Geralt shook his head slightly, “I’m sorry, Your Highness, that’s all I know. Perhaps some ancient scholars in the Royal City would know more information.”
Ancient scholars, a profession specializing in studying ancient nations and civilizations.
“Is that so…”
Lei Wen wasn’t too disappointed.
It seemed that even the Pokémon World could not escape the development trajectory of the real world.
Wars between humans never ceased, the fall of one nation would lead to the rise of another nation and civilization on this land, repeating endlessly.
Continuing deeper, it wasn’t long before Lei Wen spotted the Graveler that had attacked him and Snivy last time.
Upon seeing this Pokémon, Geralt blocked Lei Wen’s path, but he didn’t attack. Instead, he nodded to the Axew beside him.
The next second, a cold light flashed on the giant axe-like teeth of the Axew, and it slashed towards the Graveler.
With a single blow, the Graveler was repelled and quickly fled to other areas.
“Alright Your Highness, we can proceed,” Geralt said.
Lei Wen: “…”
I must say, having such a powerful protector around really makes one feel safe!
The two continued downwards along the naturally formed tunnels within the mine.
The deeper they went, the darker the surrounding environment became.
Geralt took out a prepared torch and lit it. Instantly, the orange light illuminated everything around them.
Gradually, some clear architectural traces began to appear ahead, but after the baptism of time, these structures had long since become dilapidated.
“Your Highness, please be careful, we have entered the Underground,” Geralt and Axew were vigilant of their surroundings.
Lei Wen let out a hum, but he was soon attracted by the ancient murals carved on the surrounding walls.
The patterns on them were slightly abstract, but the general content could still be discerned.
They depicted a group of humans wearing grass skirts and animal skins.
They hunted around this land with tools such as bows and arrows, and stone spears.
Until one day, heavy snow fell from the sky, and the temperature plummeted. Many of the small figures in the murals fell to the ground, seemingly frozen to death.
Later on, those people suddenly discovered a sun-like entity.
In the last mural, Lei Wen saw countless small figures kneeling before the “sun,” seemingly worshipping it as a deity.
It was clear that the era these small figures belonged to was even more ancient, a Tribal Era before the birth of civilization.
“Unova Region… Sun God…”
Looking at the “sun” the small figures were worshipping, Lei Wen suddenly had an unbelievable guess.
Could it be… that the so-called sun did not refer to Solgaleo, but to the Pokémon known as the “embodiment of the sun,” Volcarona?
Volcarona, its legend circulates in the Unova Region.
It is said that in cold lands, Volcarona was worshipped as the embodiment of the sun and depicted as the god of fire in ancient murals.
Legend has it that it is born from a fiercely burning cocoon and appears in the harsh winter to help people and Pokémon suffering from the cold.
Lei Wen had a vague guess in his heart.
This meant that the ruins buried beneath this mine were very likely to have a strong connection with Volcarona!
“Prince Lei Wen, we are nearing the lowest level, please be careful!” Geralt had a vague bad feeling.
This place must harbor some unknown dangers.
“I know,” Lei Wen looked at the Dratini and Snivy beside him, signaling them to prepare for battle as well.
After passing through a long tunnel, the scene before them suddenly opened up.
This was a much larger cavern, and in the center of the cavern stood a dusty, dilapidated ancient ruin.
Judging from the upright stone pillars and the pyramid-like stepped architecture, it was clearly something left over from the Tribal Era.
However, more shocking than these was that the temperature of this cave was higher than outside!
Even more bizarrely, despite being underground, there was light in this cave!
It was a warm, inviting light.
The bright environment did not reassure Geralt but made him more vigilant.
“Your Highness, please be careful! There’s a monster’s aura here!” Geralt drew his sword, his voice wary.
Axew also assumed a fighting stance.
“Darumaka!”
Accompanied by a series of somewhat rough growls, several Pokémon, entirely fiery red, resembling apes, and with two thick fists, jumped out from a corner.
It was… Darumaka!
Without a word, the several Darumaka swung their fists and attacked Geralt and Axew, who were blocking the way.
With a “clang,” Geralt held his sword horizontally to block.
The giant fiery red fist struck the blade with a thud. Even though Darumaka’s strike had a powerful impact, Geralt remained firmly on the ground, unmoving.
“Daruma?!” Darumaka’s face showed a surprised expression, as if wondering how this human could block its attack.
But the next second, Geralt exerted force with his right hand, shaking the hilt, repelling Darumaka while pursuing it with his sword.
“Daruma—!”
A direct hit, Darumaka cried out in pain and flew backward.
Geralt did not aim to kill, merely repelling Darumaka with his scabbard.
However, the other Darumaka nearby saw this and immediately fell into a state of anger.
“Daruma Daruma Daruma—!”
They swung their giant fists, pounding their chests, and then charged at Geralt and Lei Wen from all directions.
“Your Highness, be careful!”
Geralt and Axew charged forward in unison, but there were too many Darumaka and Fire-Red Darumaka. Several of them broke through their defense and reached Lei Wen.
“Snivy, Vine Whip, Dratini, Twister!”
Lei Wen did not panic. He calmly issued commands to the two Pokémon beside him.
“Swish swish!”
Accompanied by two whistling sounds, Snivy unleashed two Vine Whips, fending off the attacking Darumaka and Fire-Red Darumaka.
Dratini also exhaled a scorching Dragon Breath from its mouth, blocking a surprise attack from a Darumaka.
In just a few minutes, the surrounding Darumaka and Fire-Red Darumaka were repelled with the coordinated efforts of everyone.
These Darumaka retreated fearfully, gathered in front of the ruin, and began to jump and howl.
“Rumble!”
Accompanied by a loud sound.
A giant “sun,” emitting a scorching aura, slowly rose from within the ruins.
