Chapter 27: Ian, Miracle Boy?
Ian’s series of reactions were all taken in by Tessa.
“This is fate, you cannot prevent it.” Tessa’s voice was like a verdict, with an unshakable seriousness like a decree, her fingers lightly tapping the edge of the bed.
Making regular “tap tap” sounds.
Ian’s pupils flickered slightly a few times.
“There must still be a way.” He seemed to suddenly calm down, staring straight into Tessa’s eyes as she turned her head to look, the profound depth that made him feel dizzy becoming even stronger.
“The so-called fate is an invincible ending. Your resistance is also your prejudice against death.” Tessa’s fingers tapping the window frame paused slightly, and an abrupt silence filled this frozen house.
Ian’s expression rarely carried a bit of seriousness, “Perhaps death is indeed not scary, but indifference to life, accepting the death of family members without doing anything, that is truly terrifying.”
His response made Tessa’s eyes narrow slightly. This pale woman patted her own chest with her slender hand, a somewhat novel smile appearing on her face.
“You’ve hit right on my heart.”
She winked at Ian, but Ian’s expression did not change.
“You telling me all this won’t be meaningless.” Ian actually still had a tiny bit of serious wisdom, he just didn’t use it often in daily life.
Upon hearing this, the smile on Tessa’s face grew even denser.
“Maybe I just hope you can learn to accept reality.” Her tone still carried a bit of gentle flavor, just like soothing a child who needed pity.
“Your family is very special, so there are some differences…” Her words did have some reason, but they didn’t make Ian feel much credibility.
“Perhaps?”
Ian just noncommittally turned his head to look at the black-and-white corridor, the doors of several bedrooms all appearing tightly closed, “But I think you certainly haven’t gone to comfort my older brothers yet.”
His words seemed to imply something.
“What does that have to do with anything?” Tessa tilted her head, her expression still full of smiles, “You are the youngest child, me paying more attention to your emotions is certainly not wrong.”
It was quite reasonable.
“I don’t understand the Grim Reaper, but in my view, the Grim Reaper shouldn’t have such emotions… so, you chatting with me here absolutely has a reason and meaning.”
Ian’s brain was turning very fast now, gradually sorting out some suspicious points. In response, Tessa just chuckled lightly and looked down at the cold street below.
“I’m just killing boring time too, living too long is very tiring.” The Female Grim Reaper’s voice carried a bit of sigh, and also a bit of faint melancholy.
Ian said nothing.
He just quietly watched her.
Sapphire-like eyes were strikingly bright in the fading world.
A moment later.
“Alright, cunning little guy.” Tessa’s voice broke the quiet atmosphere, she pursed her lips and raised her hands in an extremely exaggerated surrender pose.
“I confess, compared to your father… I am actually more interested in you. Before just now, I hadn’t even realized your existence was so special.”
“This is a groundbreaking thing in my dull career—a precisely because of this, I decide to give you a chance, a chance far more generous than that of our Grim Reaper’s boss.”
Saying this, Tessa glanced again at the back of Ian’s hand, paused for a moment before continuing, “I can give you seven days to find out why your father died.”
This suddenly cold tone made Ian slightly stunned.
“You want me to go back to the past?”
Ian frowned, and with his other hand, gently touched the back of his hand. From the words of the Female Grim Reaper in front of him just now, he got a very key piece of information.
This made his pupils involuntarily flicker a few more times.
“No no no, I haven’t appreciated you to that extent yet.” Tessa suddenly laughed, “Your father’s time of death will be delayed, and these seven days are your father’s… and this city’s last chance. Don’t expect your father to provide you help, he hasn’t even figured out what happened to him.”
“Little guy, you can only rely on yourself… let me see if you can nurture a miracle.” Tessa’s voice carried a faint trace of expectation.
After saying that.
Without giving Ian a chance to continue asking, her body suddenly leaned forward sharply, directly falling toward the street below the house, as if her whole person completely merged into the black-and-white interwoven night.
“This matter is also related to the safety of Metropolis? If I find the problem, my old man won’t have to die?” By the time Ian rushed to the window, there was no figure left to see.
Not only did the Female Grim Reaper Tessa who fell toward the street disappear, even those densely packed black-clothed people from before had all vanished completely, as if they had never appeared, coming without a trace and leaving without a trace.
“Ian!”
“Ian!!”
“What’s wrong with you?”
…
In shock and uncertainty.
Ian’s world suddenly seemed to be refilled with sound and color. Everything around seemed to twist, then weave together into a blurry mess.
“Hm?”
Ian couldn’t help but rub his eyes.
Opening his eyes again.
He saw Clark’s one hand placed on his shoulder, the other hand constantly waving in front of his eyes, his old father’s face full of worry.
“Why did you suddenly start spacing out?”
Clark was clearly worried that Ian’s condition was worsening. Although he already knew some things about Ian, he still felt that the diagnosis from the psychiatrist might not be wrong.
That was a psychiatrist very well-known nationwide, who even often helped the police solve cases. And precisely because of this, he and his wife had intersected with him.
“That woman…” Ian looked behind Clark, his voice abruptly stopping. Behind Clark was already empty, he suddenly turned his head to look toward the window.
There.
The window seemed never to have been opened.
“What happened just now?”
Ian couldn’t help but ask.
Clark frowned, carefully looking over his youngest son, his eyes growing even more worried, “After I came out of the restroom, I saw you suddenly frozen in place with very scattered eyes.”
It wasn’t surprising that his old father was worried; Ian’s performance was exactly consistent with the typical symptoms of schizophrenia patients from the knowledge he learned through speed reading.
“So, you don’t even remember me accusing you of cheating… or maybe it didn’t happen in reality at all?” Ian suddenly felt like he was turning into Li Huowang.
Can’t distinguish.
Really can’t distinguish!
“Dad, during the day today… did anything strange happen?” Unable to distinguish, so don’t; what Ian cared more about was the cause of Superman’s death mentioned by that Female Grim Reaper before.
He always felt it must be related to something that happened today.
However.
“You know, just some boring news gathering… very dull.” Clark pushed up his glasses, he clearly had no intention of telling the truth.
“…”
Ian stared at his old father for a long time.
“Go to sleep soon, as for the robber thing you encountered, no need to worry more, I will definitely pay great attention.” Clark didn’t notice the abnormality in Ian’s expression.
He patted Ian’s shoulder as an assurance.
“…”
Ian, who still wanted to lay his cards on the table, had the Female Grim Reaper’s serious reminder echoing repeatedly in his mind. The Female Grim Reaper said Ian could only rely on himself, there must be a certain reason and deep meaning.
Was it that if Superman helped, it would backfire? He was led step by step by Clark to the room door in this thoughtful state, with his sixth sense unusually active.
“See you tomorrow, Dad.”
Ian said softly. In his pupils was reflected the image outside the window behind Clark, of a woman sitting on the chimney of the opposite house, making a shushing gesture at him.
Only Ian could see it.
But Clark also felt a bit strange and paused slightly at this moment.
“See you tomorrow.”
He then smiled, helping Ian close the room door. And after being alone in the corridor, Clark’s smile gradually faded, turning into a thoughtful confusion.
“Did something happen…”
Superman looked toward the restroom, then at the empty night sky outside the window behind him, not even a bird in sight.
As his eyes flickered somewhat.
He lifted his arm covered by his sleeve, the hideous wound still emitting green light. However, that increasingly weak feeling from before seemed to suddenly stop, making him feel something unusual.
