Chapter 40: Cousin Aunt! This Violates Ethics!
Kara doesn’t know much about Gotham.
She only knows that Gotham Asylum has a big reputation, housing many superhumans with mental illnesses. It is both a prison and a hospital, and someone with Ian’s mental state should be admitted for a few days.
“Hmm? Does Cousin Aunt still cooperate with Gotham Asylum?” Ian frowned, thinking that Kara wanted to use him to boost her performance, then take kickbacks from Batman’s side in Gotham.
“I just hope you can be a bit more normal!” Kara sensed Ian’s suspicious gaze, and she suddenly slapped her forehead hard, her face full of an indescribable expression.
“I’m very normal, and I abide by the law. I dare bet that at least eighty percent of people in America don’t respect the law as much as I do.” Ian’s voice was filled with confident assurance.
He knew he was telling the truth.
“No, you carjacked a criminal’s car, then sold that car to gang members through illegal channels… You know this is actually a crime too, right?”
Kara’s voice suddenly rose eight degrees, and she looked at Ian’s confidence with utter disbelief. To tell the truth, even if given a hundred years, she felt she couldn’t come up with such an operation.
Continuously violating multiple laws.
And no one got any benefits.
What was the point of this operation?!
“I didn’t carjack, I just drove away the robber’s car, so how can this not count as emergency evasion?” Ian channeled “Hao Chun Sis” and blinked his eyes innocently like a white lotus.
“That’s still a crime!”
Kara sighed helplessly.
“So this counts as a crime… Hey, I’m still a child, what do I know?” Ian scratched his head, which wasn’t itchy, and then showed a sunny boy’s smile.
That expression made Kara want to punch him.
“Looking at you, it’s clear you knew long ago that your behavior was wrong!” Although she was sometimes a bit naive, she could still tell that Ian was obviously not telling the truth.
And at Cousin Aunt’s merciless exposure.
Ian just shrugged, his smile becoming even sunnier.
“Don’t worry, the jury won’t think that way. And… I have a doctor’s certificate.” With that, Ian pulled out that crumpled medical certificate and waved it a few times.
This was truly a big killer weapon.
The confident boy believed that Metropolis’s mental hospital couldn’t hold him.
“You… you…”
Kara’s face turned red from holding back.
She didn’t know how to respond for a long time.
Damn it!
Why is the child raised by Clark like this?
Could it be.
That she actually didn’t understand Clark’s true character all along? Since Ian had left Kara speechless multiple times, she even began to doubt Clark’s integrity.
A child raised to be like this.
Kara didn’t believe from the bottom of her heart that Clark bore no responsibility.
“Come in first…”
Kara didn’t want to argue with Ian about this anymore. She felt that if she didn’t want to get Kryptonian high blood pressure, she had to pretend she had never heard this story from her cheap nephew.
“Click~”
Kara opened her own door and walked in first. Warm white lights turned on, and Ian followed closely behind. The room smelled faintly of lavender laundry detergent.
This was a typical single apartment layout. As an assistant secretary, Kara’s salary wasn’t high, but being able to afford such a place was already a pretty good financial situation.
The open kitchen counter was spotless, with two upside-down mugs next to the stainless steel kettle. Two pots of pothos sat on the windowsill, their leaves gently swaying in the wind outside the balcony.
The entire living room wasn’t big but was tidied neatly. A gray blanket was folded neatly on the beige fabric sofa, and several simple landscape paintings hung on the walls. On the TV cabinet was a small photo frame—Kara in casual clothes, making a scissors sign in front of some Earth’s scenic spot.
The sofa was a bit messy, and the coffee table had a remote control and several fashion magazines.
Of course.
In the previous blink.
Ian clearly saw girl’s intimate underwear and underwear on the coffee table, but in the next second’s blink, all those things disappeared, leaving only the young Cousin Aunt suddenly giving him an awkward smile.
“…” Ian felt he had been mercilessly humiliated by his relative. A Kryptonian used super speed to bully his intelligence, yet acted like she thought he wouldn’t notice anything.
“Does Cousin Aunt still like pink little lions?”
Ian’s eyes had much faster capture speed than a normal person, so even though Kara was as fast as lightning, he could still clearly recall what he saw in that one “frame” of his blink.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
Kara tried to cover it up even more.
She wanted to furrow her brows to show her confusion, but sensing Ian’s silent gaze, her eyes clearly showed some guilt, so she simply looked toward the windowsill.
“Disney merchandise does sell well, and that’s given me inspiration… After my novel becomes a hit, I want to sell merchandise too.” Ian mused thoughtfully, as if discovering a way to make money.
“You still write novels?”
Kara looked at Ian with some astonishment.
She really hadn’t seen a fourteen- or fifteen-year-old child dream of being a writer and actually put it into practice. No matter how well he wrote, Kara thought such a hobby deserved encouragement.
“Yes, it’s about my Superman father.” Ian gave an honest answer. He was indeed telling the truth, though not the whole truth.
“Would your father agree to you writing his story?” Kara clearly felt surprised. She knew all too well how thoroughly Clark separated Superman’s life from ordinary life.
“It’s a self-healing method recommended by my psychiatrist. I think Father supports my writing a lot. He got all flushed and excited multiple times after seeing my manuscript.”
Ian used the seventy-two stratagems’ switch concept.
And the innocent Kara didn’t suspect it at all.
“Then it seems you write pretty well.”
She even became curious about Ian’s novel.
“Yes, so when the time comes, please buy a few copies too, Cousin Aunt. I already submitted it to a publishing house on the way here, and I’m not worried at all about whether it will be successfully published and become a hit.”
Ian spoke with full confidence.
“No problem.”
Kara agreed without thinking.
Not only that.
“Actually, I think if your story isn’t finished yet, you could even add me in… Of course, don’t write what my real identity is.”
“Just write about the interactions between Superwoman and Superman.” She even recommended herself to Ian, hoping to make a cameo in his novel.
How to put it.
This was truly a good Cousin Aunt.
Willing to dedicate herself to Ian’s writing career. Ian really appreciated Cousin Aunt’s discerning eye, but after pondering for a moment, he still decided to reject the good Cousin Aunt’s suggestion.
“That wouldn’t be good.”
Ian sighed slightly regretfully.
“Hmm? Do you think Superwoman’s fame isn’t as big as your father’s, so she can’t attract readers for you?” After throwing herself onto the sofa, Kara’s tone was full of dissatisfaction.
“No.”
Ian shook his head.
“It’s just that my story’s style is quite special, so… adding Cousin Aunt might violate ethics. I’m afraid it won’t pass review and affect my speed of making money.”
He gave a sincere answer.
It carried a flavor of genuine regret from the heart.
“?????”
Kara upon hearing this.
First was stunned.
Then her whole body was struck by lightning, her eyeballs nearly bulging out.
No!
Super Brain!
You can’t operate now! You can’t think of anything— the brave Supergirl, at this moment, not only didn’t dare to speak, but even didn’t dare to think.
