Chapter 42: The Fastest Man! The Flash!
I have to say, Boeing still has some substance.
It’s just a company name, and it completely shattered all of Ian’s doubts and conspiracy theories. Globally, there are probably very few companies with such brand power.
The deeply ingrained brand image is something even superheroes are accustomed to. Even with Ian’s experience, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe; this company has truly gone to great lengths for the performance of superheroes!
“Rumble! Rumble!”
Flames ten meters long erupted from the right wing of the Boeing 747 passenger jet, scattering metal fragments like fireworks. Inside the cabin, the screams of despairing passengers almost drowned out the plane’s alarms.
“Hold on tight!”
Kara was accelerating.
Her flight path was extremely steep.
Ian, on her back, quickly held onto her neck. The two of them dove down like silver meteors, approaching the underside of the plane just as it was about to crash into the wilderness.
The fuselage tilted sharply, and through the cabin windows, the terrified faces of the passengers could be seen. She adjusted her angle, flew beneath the plane, and steadily supported its belly with her upraised hands.
“Splash~”
Kara’s bio-electric field enveloped the three-hundred-ton steel behemoth like an invisible film of water, gradually altering the plane’s nose direction along its downward trajectory.
She was clearly very experienced in saving this particular model of aircraft. Holding the plane and carrying Ian on her back, she slowly adjusted her posture and finally landed it smoothly on the ground.
“Bang!”
Kara’s feet sank deeply into the asphalt, cracks spreading like a spiderweb from where she stood, but the force was not transferred to the plane. No one on the stabilized aircraft was even thrown from their seats.
This is probably a scene that most physicists would ponder for their entire lives without understanding.
“Tsk, tsk, Homelander’s fantasy of himself.” Ian remarked with a hint of envy. As the emergency slides inflated and deployed, the shaken passengers scrambled out of the cabin.
The crisis was successfully resolved.
Kara, in a great mood, stood with her hands on her hips, catching her breath.
Her outfit had somehow been changed into battle armor.
One-second costume change.
This is a required course for many superheroes.
“It’s Supergirl!” a little boy wearing a baseball cap was the first to recognize Kara, tugging on his mother’s hand excitedly. “Mom, Supergirl saved us!”
“God, thank you, thank you for sending your messenger to save us.” An elderly Christian woman knelt on the ground, making the sign of the cross and thanking her faith.
“I swear I’ll never complain about my mom’s cooking again. As long as I’m alive, I’ll eat anything!” A girl in her early twenties burst into tears after narrowly escaping death.
A wave of weak laughter erupted from the crowd.
At this moment.
A woman with burgundy hair, wearing a beige windbreaker, also calmed her emotions. Compared to the others who were grateful and relieved, her nature as a reporter made her want to seize this first-hand news.
“My name is Iris West, I’m a reporter for the Central City Citizen. Supergirl, thank you so much for your help. Without your assistance, perhaps we all would have…”
Reporter Iris was recording with her mobile phone, her voice trembling. After finishing the grim part, perhaps she was still too shaken to dwell on such possibilities.
“You’re welcome, Ms. West. It’s my job, isn’t it? As long as everyone is safe, that’s all that matters.” Kara’s answer was very official; she had plenty of experience with such interviews.
“You’re quite close to Metropolis. Are you temporarily helping Superman? I heard he’s been having some problems. Can you dispel the rumors or confirm this for the public?”
Iris knew exactly what kind of news she needed. After the airplane crash incident yesterday, there had been much discussion in Metropolis and online about why Superman had failed.
“Regarding that, I believe he will respond himself later. His response would likely be more persuasive than mine.” Kara’s heart suddenly tightened at Iris’s question.
However, she remained outwardly calm, giving a perfect answer. She wasn’t a novice anymore, and Kara had undergone training for interviews.
“Thank you.”
Reporter Iris was the white Iris, so she had a good sense of tact and didn’t press her savior further. She looked at the other passengers and then changed the subject.
“I noticed you seemed to be escorting a criminal just now?” Reporter Iris already had a rough draft in mind and now only needed to clarify Supergirl’s usual vigilante activities.
Readers love to see this, much like fans love to pry into their idols’ lives.
“Escorting a criminal?”
Kara, still somewhat shocked that Superman might actually be in trouble, heard reporter Alice’s next question. Her expression clearly faltered for a moment.
“Hiss!”
Kara seemed to remember something and abruptly looked beside her. Noticing that Ian, whom she had let down during the costume change, was gone, she quickly turned around in alarm.
And there.
Ian had somehow jumped off Kara’s back and was now being surrounded by a few bold passengers for photos. What was worse, he had a semi-transparent flesh-colored stocking over his head!
It even had holes poked in the eye and mouth areas!
He looked every bit the hardened criminal!
Kara felt a throbbing in her temples. She quickly ran to Ian, who was posing for paid photos, and without regard for the passengers’ praise, she grabbed Ian in a fluster and shot up into the sky.
As if afraid that if she was a second slower.
Ian would cause some other mishap.
The other passengers hadn’t even reacted yet.
“Click, click, click~”
Reporter Iris pulled out her camera and aimed it at the sky, snapping photos furiously. She was clicking so fast her shutter was practically smoking, as each of these first-hand photos could be converted into Franklin.
“Whoosh~”
Just then.
A bolt of lightning suddenly streaked from afar, causing considerable exclamations and panic among the passengers. A man clad in armor interwoven with gold and red stopped before them.
His face was covered by a metal mask, revealing only a moderately sized mouth.
“The Flash! It’s The Flash!”
Some passengers exclaimed in surprise, also taking out their mobile phones. A little girl, who had been live-streaming but was disappointed after Supergirl left.
She unexpectedly captured another superhero.
“Oh! My goodness! Friends, look, it’s The Flash! I’m so lucky today!” The little girl wanted to gain followers through live streaming, but her followers weren’t entirely on board.
The bullet screen was filled with accusations of 【 “Welfare streamer, stop being unprofessional” 】.
“Are you all alright…?” The Flash scanned the surroundings, his gaze fixed on his childhood sweetheart, but to avoid revealing his identity, he masked his expression slightly.
“The Flash! Are you in Metropolis too?”
Iris had clearly not yet accepted the revelation from her boyfriend, Barry Allen. She quickly aimed her camera at The Flash again, also furiously clicking away to earn some money.
“Uh…”
Barry Allen wanted to say that he had rushed here from a major battle after receiving Iris’s “farewell” call, but looking around, he couldn’t reveal his identity for emotional reasons.
“Yes, that’s right. You know, superheroes have regular gatherings. I was originally going to…” Barry Allen had a lot to say, but as he was trying to brush it off.
“Hiss~”
A severe wave of weakness suddenly struck.
This caused his words to abruptly cease.
He couldn’t help but half-kneel on the ground.
“What’s wrong?” Iris hurried forward to support The Flash. Although she didn’t know The Flash’s identity, she was an old acquaintance.
This old friend had contributed a lot to her purchase of a new BMW Mini this year.
“It’s nothing… just…”
Feeling the weakness in his body.
Barry Allen originally intended to offer a perfunctory response, but he realized his Speed Force was also weakening. He panicked slightly and quickly removed part of the armor from his arm.
“Savitar… what did he do to me?”
And there.
Barry Allen’s arm also bore a ghastly wound.
From a recent battle.
It was now glowing with a faint blue sheen. If Superman were present at this location, he would undoubtedly recognize the shape of this wound.
Aside from the color.
It was identical to the wound on Superman’s arm!
