Chapter 51: Shady Merchant Hui
Four beastmen with wings were carrying the tree trunk with the dead beastman lying on it in front, and they entered the cave first.
The other beastmen followed behind and entered one after another.
The cave was very long.
After walking nearly thirty or forty meters from the entrance, without sunlight, it was already impossible to see inside.
But this bit of darkness had no influence on the beastmen.
Su Ran’s ears occasionally heard the beastmen’s faint calls and footsteps, making it feel quite lively.
But Su Ran’s eyes were pitch black.
She subconsciously grabbed Gray’s arm, a bit afraid to take another step forward.
Then a soft voice came to her ear: “Wu? Ran Ran?”
“Gray.”
Su Ran looked toward the direction of the sound, but could only see a dark outline and a pair of green eyes that seemed to glow with fluorescence.
Upon suddenly seeing those eyes that seemed to carry their own cold light, Su Ran couldn’t help but shiver.
She subconsciously turned her head to look around, and discovered that in the surrounding darkness, dozens of the same eyes were floating.
Some eyes even seemed to be looking at her.
For a moment, she felt like all the blood in her body was flowing backward.
She kept telling herself in her heart that these were just beastmen and not scary.
The next second, she felt herself being pulled by a sturdy arm into a solid embrace.
A big hand encircled her shoulders, and from the top of her head came two soft “wu wu” sounds and a sentence: “Ran Ran?”
The familiar voice made her relax a bit, and then the warm muscle temperature on the side of her face gradually calmed her from her tense emotion.
Then, led by the werewolf, she walked forward for a few more minutes.
Gradually, water flow sounds came from ahead, and suddenly light shone down from above the cave. Su Ran looked up and discovered that there was actually a narrow crack at the top of the mountain body.
In the place where the light shining in from outside the crack could reach, there was a pool about three meters wide.
At this time, the four beastmen carrying the dead old beastman lying in the tree trunk were slowly placing the tree trunk into the pool.
Su Ran curiously walked forward a few steps and was surprised to discover that the tree trunk was sinking rapidly.
After about thirty seconds, the tree trunk had completely sunk into the water.
Then, in her wide eyes, it directly sank under the rocks at the edge of the pool and floated away underwater!
There was actually an underground river below this pool?
She curiously took two more steps forward, wanting to look closely at the bottom of the pool, but could only see the pitch-black pool water below.
The pool was probably very deep, so looking down, the depths were already black.
So the tree trunk carrying the old beastman had floated away along the underground river before it had fully sunk to the bottom?
Su Ran stared blankly at the bottomless water surface in front of her, not yet finished observing the pool, when her wrist was suddenly tugged.
She turned back and saw Gray looking at her with bright eyes.
“What’s wrong?”
She subconsciously asked.
“Ran Ran, go, seaside, eat meat!”
The werewolf’s emotion was very high, already impatient for roast meat.
After hearing its words, Su Ran silently felt awkward.
They had just sent off a deceased beastman here, and you’re happily talking about food now—is that really okay?
She turned to look at the other beastmen around, but discovered that this group of guys was even more excessive than the werewolf!
They had even started exploring directly inside the cave.
Several beastmen were already climbing up the nearby stone wall toward the crack overhead.
Su Ran had black lines all over her head—what was this, a joyful funeral?
After coming out of the stone cave, the huge stone as big as a wall was slowly pushed back, blocking the entrance again.
Su Ran watched the beastmen seal the entrance tightly, feeling that the beastmen’s emotions toward death were really puzzling.
She could feel that when saying goodbye to the dead beastman, although the beastmen looked relaxed, they were seriously carrying out the farewell ceremony.
But now that the funeral had just ended, these guys quickly detached themselves from the emotion of losing a companion.
It made one doubt whether they could even perceive the emotion of separation.
After the entrance was closed, Gray pulled Su Ran to prepare to head to the seaside.
Just as they were about to leave, A Huo, who had run off somewhere, suddenly jumped in front of Su Ran and Gray holding the stone pot they had brought all the way.
It first barked twice at the werewolf, then grinned at Su Ran in a fawning manner.
Then its lips moved twice before it pronounced: “Ran, fire, meat.”
Wanting fire to eat roast meat.
Su Ran immediately understood what this beastman meant.
She glanced at the werewolf beside her, mainly afraid of causing another fight between the two beastmen.
Seeing the werewolf had no reaction, she nodded at A Huo in front of her.
The next second, she saw the fox-type beastman in front of her squint its pair of narrow fox eyes in a smile.
Su Ran was carried directly by the werewolf flying to the beach.
While flying in mid-air, she saw the fox-type beastman on the ground below once again, dragging a red fluffy big tail, holding the stone pot high in both hands, running wildly on the beach.
Running while looking very happy.
After arriving at the seaside, the werewolf muttered something to A Huo.
After it finished, the fox-type beastman turned to look at Su Ran, swished its fluffy big tail, and happily ran toward the nearby woods.
At this time, Gray walked to Su Ran’s side again. Seeing Su Ran looking doubtfully at A Huo running away, it stepped in front of Su Ran’s line of sight, lowered its head, and rubbed Su Ran’s face with its straight nose: “Ran Ran.”
“Hm?”
Su Ran came back to her senses, took a small step back, and habitually reached up to rub the werewolf’s fluffy ears on top of its head.
“Gray, wood, make fire!”
It pointed to the woods behind it, and its ears on top automatically slipped out of Su Ran’s palm.
Su Ran looked in the direction it pointed and understood it wanted to go collect firewood.
So A Huo had been arranged by Gray to go hunting?
She raised her eyebrows.
Carrying a big stone pot all the way and still responsible for hunting food for three people, just to exchange for a bit of roasted meat to eat…
Su Ran looked up at the werewolf in front of her and quickly denied her previous thought that the werewolf was simple.
This wasn’t simple at all!
This was practically a shrewd merchant!
Judging by A Huo’s exercise all this way, even if it ate its fill this meal, by the time it ran back to the bird’s nest tree later, everything in its belly would probably be fully digested!
And for this one meal, it not only had to be the porter but also the werewolf’s laborer.
Su Ran silently watched Gray run off wagging its tail, feeling for the first time that the werewolf’s back view surprisingly carried a shrewd flavor…
