Chapter 55: Scallop Knife
Su Ran was amused by the little expression on its face and helplessly reached out to forcibly tug the cup from its hand.
Then, under Gray’s tense gaze fixed on the cup, she picked up a branch that had burned into charcoal and drew a simple sketch she was good at on the cup.
A few minutes later, a large portrait of a werewolf with triangular ears, a big open mouth, and four sharp teeth in the mouth appeared on the water cup.
Finally, Su Ran peeled off the skin of a red fruit, dipped a clean wooden stick in the juice on the skin, and applied it to the cheeks on both sides of the large portrait, drawing two red blushes.
She held the water cup in front of the werewolf’s eyes: “Gray, look!”
“Woo?”
The werewolf, who had watched Su Ran draw the entire large portrait almost without blinking, stared at the pattern on the wooden cup in a daze for two seconds.
Then it suddenly raised its eyebrows, pointed at the pattern on the water cup, turned its head to look at Su Ran, and when it opened its mouth, it raised its hand and tugged at the two ears on top of its head:
“Gray? Ran Ran, water cup, Gray?”
“Su Ran, amazing!”
“Amazing amazing amazing!”
It repeated “amazing” many times to express the joy in its heart.
Then it picked up another cup and handed it to Su Ran, looking expectant: “Ran Ran’s!”
Su Ran reached out to take it, and a few minutes later, another cup had a large portrait of a little girl on it.
After the patterns on the two cups were finished, the werewolf took them aside to show off.
Finally comforting little Gray Gray’s emotions, Su Ran let out a big sigh of relief and continued with the work at hand.
She slowly poured the sea salt that had been made and was in the large wooden basin into the wooden jar that had just been dug out.
The amount of this sea salt was still a third short of filling the jar; once the pot currently boiling in the pot was done, it would be just enough to fill one jar.
The sun had already passed noon by now, and the time was around two in the afternoon.
The other beastmen hadn’t returned yet; it seemed they wanted to leave together with Su Ran and the others.
Su Ran was also happy that the beastmen were here, because this way Gray could interact with them through play and the other beastmen could quickly learn human language.
After filling the sea salt, with nothing much to do at the moment, Su Ran picked up all the scallop shells she had discarded after eating and washed them in the seawater.
She wanted to make a few knives for cutting meat from the scallop shells, otherwise using the tactical knife all the time wore it out too quickly.
When substitutes could be found, she wanted to extend the lifespan of the modern items she had as much as possible.
Su Ran placed the opening of the scallop shell on the file and polished it repeatedly; half an hour later, the first scallop shell was sharpened into a sharp knife edge shape.
This scallop shell was two palm sizes when held in hand, perfect for making a kitchen knife, and easier to make than a bone knife.
Su Ran picked out a piece from the beast meat that the beastmen had sent over in the basket and wanted to save for dinner, and tried cutting it with one stroke.
The fresh beast meat was instantly cut open with a deep and long incision.
She nodded in satisfaction, showed the scallop knife to the werewolf, and immediately received another round of praise expressed through dense kisses.
She couldn’t help but wipe the saliva off her face with her sleeve; this enthusiasm was really overwhelming…
After the third pot of sea salt was completed, Su Ran poured this pot of salt into the wooden jar, perfectly filling the entire jar.
Then she put on the lid and pressed the lid down firmly.
And at this moment, Xiao Ju and her companion, a lion beastman with wings, walked over holding a black stone pot.
This lion beastman was the one Su Ran had seen before in the bird’s nest where Xiao Ju lived.
The lion beastman’s build was slightly more robust than the werewolf’s, with a head of golden hair slightly darker than Xiao Ju’s, reaching down to his back.
A slender tail behind him, with a tuft of mane at the tip.
And its wings were different from Gray’s; its wings were light brown, and Su Ran thought for a long time but couldn’t figure out what bird’s wings they were.
She looked at the stone pot in the lion beastman’s hand; it was a stone pot dug out from a reef.
Is there black-flowered Malan grass here?
Su Ran’s gaze showed doubt; otherwise, how did they dig out this stone pot?
Her gaze speculatively looked toward the place where Xiao Ju and the others had just been, and sure enough, she saw a clump of thin long green plants on the ground.
And at this moment, Xiao Ju was having the lion beastman hand over the stone pot in his hand toward Su Ran.
Su Ran looked down into the stone pot handed over by the lion beastman and was surprised to find a thin layer of grayish-white salt crystal particles inside.
“Salt?” Su Ran subconsciously asked while looking at Xiao Ju, and then Xiao Ju nodded, looking at her expectantly and meowing.
Su Ran looked into the stone pot again; this was indeed salt.
But it couldn’t be eaten.
First, because this was sea salt without impurities removed, and second, this stone pot had just been made, and it was unknown if Xiao Ju and the others had cleaned the residual Malan grass juice inside the stone pot after digging it out with black-flowered Malan grass.
If there was still residual Malan grass juice inside, eating it into the belly would be more than just harmful to the body; it could be fatal in a short time!
But how was she going to tell Xiao Ju?
Su Ran felt for the first time that language communication was so urgent.
Now it wasn’t just about telling Xiao Ju that this pot of sea salt couldn’t be used; most importantly, she feared the beastmen would dig out stone pots like this and directly cook things to eat, which would definitely cause problems.
After thinking for a while, she first gestured for the lion beastman to put the stone pot on the ground.
Then she found a wooden stick and stirred it twice in the stone pot.
At this moment, Xiao Ju, Gray, and the lion beastman also squatted down with Su Ran, curiously watching her actions.
Their eyes were full of eagerness to learn.
Su Ran thought for a moment, pointed her finger at the stone pot in front of her, and looked at Xiao Ju with her eyes: “Xiao Ju.”
“Meow~ Ran Ran?”
It seemed she saw the hesitant expression on Su Ran’s face; Xiao Ju’s gaze at her now carried a bit of anxiety, making Su Ran’s heart soften.
She tried her best to convey comforting emotions to her, then pointed at the sea salt in the stone pot and shook her head: “Sea salt, cannot eat.”
“Woo?”
Xiao Ju didn’t understand the meaning of “cannot eat,” but she could understand Su Ran’s head shake.
At the sight of Su Ran shaking her head, she immediately froze in place, her cat eyes wide open, with a faint glimmer of tears at the bottom.
That aggrieved look made Su Ran want to pull the little cutie into her embrace and pamper her well…
But remembering Gray who was always guarding nearby, she quickly dismissed the thought.
With this possessive little jealous beastman by her side, it was better not to have such thoughts.
Otherwise, if the werewolf’s jealousy flared up and caused a fuss, coaxing him every day would be tiring too…
