Chapter 35: Who Wants Me Dead?
The person was greatly alarmed at the sound and stood up abruptly to look. Before them stood a girl wrapped in a bathrobe, her face as cold as frost, staring at him with icy eyes.
He had never seen such a terrifying gaze and instinctively took a step back.
“Who sent you?” Xia Chenge spoke again. “Tell me honestly, and I’ll give you a quick end.”
The person snapped back to reality, brandishing his knife, and lunged ferociously at Xia Chenge. He didn’t believe a mere child could be his opponent!
Xia Chenge sneered, leaped up, and stepped on his head to evade his attack, simultaneously kicking him in the head.
With a splash, the person fell back into the bathtub. After struggling for a moment, he abruptly stood up, soaking wet.
He glared fiercely at Xia Chenge, his face filled with murderous intent.
Xia Chenge smirked dismissively, “What, you still can’t see the gap in our strength?”
The person remained silent and lunged again.
Xia Chenge had no patience for slow torture. As he lunged, she made her move!
In an instant, the person froze in his attacking posture.
A moment later, his eyes widened in terror, and he slowly collapsed. He couldn’t understand how his body had suddenly become stiff and immobile.
“I told you, you’re no match for me!” Xia Chenge stepped on his chest. With a slight press, he immediately showed a pained expression.
“I also said earlier, tell me honestly, and I’ll give you a quick end… If you prefer to play the tough guy, you’ll realize that ‘integrity’ is really worthless.”
With that, Xia Chenge’s gaze slowly turned grim. She squatted down and employed the methods she used to torture zombies in the apocalypse.
The zombies in the apocalypse had only just gained sentience, and their pain tolerance was hundreds of times stronger than ordinary humans, yet they couldn’t endure the torture. How could a human possibly withstand it!
So, as soon as Xia Chenge made her move, the person’s facial features contorted, and he screamed in agony, wishing he were dead.
“I, I’ll talk, I’ll talk!” He cried out, using all his strength to utter those few words through the pain.
Xia Chenge finally stopped. “You refused the toast and chose to drink the forfeit.”
“It, it was Xia Minglan!” He looked at Xia Chenge in terror and quickly confessed, fearing that any delay would lead to more torture. “She’s the one who contacted me and gave me the Xia family key!”
“You say it was Xia Minglan? Where’s the evidence?” Xia Chenge withdrew her foot, deliberately feigning disbelief.
“There is evidence. The money she gave me is still here. I was worried she wouldn’t honor her word, so I made a recording,” the person said quickly. He paused, then pleaded, “If I give you the recording, can you let me go?”
“Show it to me first, or we’re done talking!” Xia Chenge said coldly.
“It, it’s on my mobile phone.” He struggled to pull out his mobile phone, placed it in front of Xia Chenge, and played the recording.
The female voice in the recording was indeed Xia Minglan, her words filled with a hatred that made it seem like she wanted to tear her apart.
Xia Minglan promised to give this person five hundred thousand if he broke her limbs and ruined her reputation.
“Leave the mobile phone, and you can get out.” Xia Chenge kicked him. “If you want to live comfortably, it’s best that no one else knows about this, or I won’t let you off lightly!”
Hearing this, the person felt as if he had been granted a great pardon and scrambled towards the bathroom door.
Xia Chenge watched his pathetic state, her gaze gradually turning grim.
…
After dinner, Xia Chenge lay on her bed, still thinking about the attack she had faced before dinner.
Xia Minglan wasn’t satisfied with killing the original owner; now, like a cornered dog, she wanted to eliminate her too!
It seemed that simply kicking her out of the Xia family wasn’t harsh enough. She needed to teach Xia Minglan a lesson.
With that thought, a plan formed in Xia Chenge’s mind. She curved her lips slightly, a sharp glint flashing in her eyes.
However, Xia Minglan was not a threat. She didn’t want to waste too much energy on this; there were more important matters awaiting her.
Since getting the mobile phone, she had been dedicated to searching for information about this era. After several days of effort, she had gained a clear understanding of this time.
Furthermore, her current identity was that of a student, and she had to master all the necessary knowledge in the shortest possible time.
Xia Chenge possessed a brain that could calculate at computer speeds and a memory that could retain information after a single glance like a scanner. She absolutely couldn’t let her grades fall behind others!
She was a genius girl and would definitely remove the disgraceful labels that had been placed upon the original owner!
…
A week passed in the blink of an eye. Xia Chenge exercised daily, and her body’s evolution became increasingly apparent. In a little more time, she would be able to cure the Old Master and the others.
Additionally, her complexion had begun to regain its rosy hue, and her skin was so delicate it seemed it could be broken by a puff of air.
The original owner’s parents must have been good-looking, right? Xia Chenge reached up and touched her face in the mirror. It was a pity that the original owner had no memories of her parents.
And Xia Minglan, perhaps out of guilt or fear of seeing her elder brother’s belongings, used the excuse of not wanting to sadden the two elders to strictly forbid any photos of the original owner’s parents in the house, not even allowing anything related to them to exist…
Xia Chenge sighed for the original owner’s tragic fate and turned to go downstairs.
As soon as she saw Wei En preparing breakfast, her face fell. “Grandpa Wei, I want to eat meat!”
What kind of nutritious breakfast could it be without fish and meat? For Xia Chenge, who loved meat, this was simply torture.
After finally being reborn from the apocalypse to a peaceful era, she couldn’t even eat meat for every meal. Was this what rebirth was?
Wei En rejected her request without mercy. “Little Miss, breakfast should be light. Too much grease is bad for your health.”
But it’s good for my health… Xia Chenge’s eyes welled up with tears.
Remembering that she had entrusted the management of the Xia family to Wei En, she could only swallow her tears and say goodbye to fish and meat for breakfast.
Wei En looked at Xia Chenge’s disdain for breakfast, feeling both heartache and helplessness.
He didn’t know what was going on. Ever since she had returned to her senses, she had become obsessed with meat, unable to go without it for a single meal. Breakfast was their biggest headache.
“I want to eat meat…” Xia Chenge grumbled resentfully.
“If the Little Miss wants to eat meat, why are you withholding it? Are you acting like masters when I’m not home and disrespecting the Little Miss?” A stern voice suddenly rang out, interrupting the harmonious atmosphere of the early morning.
“Wei En, I asked you to come back not to be harsh with her! As a servant, you should fulfill all reasonable requests of your master.”
“Don’t think you can abuse her as you please just because she’s young. If there’s a next time, don’t blame me for being impolite and kicking you out of the Xia family.”
How imposing! Before she, the master, had even spoken, someone was already stepping up to act like the boss in front of her?
Xia Chenge turned her head, looking over with a cold gaze.
