Chapter 36: Then Get Lost
“Chenge, I’m really happy you’re getting better.” The person looked at Xia Chenge gently. “You need to study hard. The company will need you to take over in the future. Uncle-in-law is very happy that you’ve finally returned to normal.”
Wei En stood nervously in front of Xia Chenge, trying his best to straighten his hunched body, as if to protect Xia Chenge.
Facing the amiable Xu Jingyi, Xia Chenge pulled Wei En behind her, her expression still cold: Trying to be a good person as soon as you return?
Xu Jingyi was a little surprised by Xia Chenge’s overly calm reaction, and even shocked by the coldness in her eyes. However, he was a cunning old fox, and quickly adjusted his emotions. He stepped forward with a smile, wanting to pat Xia Chenge’s head: “Chenge has grown up.”
Xia Chenge directly turned her head to avoid his disgusting touch and said coldly, “Don’t touch me. I’m eating breakfast. It’s disgusting.”
“Chenge, you can talk now?” Xu Jingyi didn’t care what Xia Chenge said, but was more concerned that she could speak. Xia Minglan really didn’t lie to him; Xia Chenge had returned to normal!
“Surprised?” Xia Chenge retorted coolly. “But there are more things that will surprise you!”
“Is that so? Then Uncle-in-law is looking forward to the surprises Xiao Ge will bring.” Xu Jingyi put on a happy facade. He turned his head and instructed a servant, “Add another set of chopsticks. I haven’t eaten breakfast either, so I might as well eat with Xiao Ge.”
Thinking that Xia Minglan had been kicked out of the Xia family, the servant didn’t dare to make a decision and secretly looked at Xia Chenge.
“What? You’re being lazy even for such a small task? Do you think Xiao Ge is easy to bully, so you’re slacking off?” Xu Jingyi was furious. He used to be the emperor of the Xia family; who dared to defy him?
Xia Chenge smiled faintly. “Why are you getting angry? I, the master, haven’t spoken yet. It doesn’t seem right for you to act like the host, does it? Your surname is Xu, mine is Xia, and this is the Xia family. Have you forgotten?”
Xu Jingyi’s complexion changed slightly, unable to believe she would say such a thing.
“Xiao Ge, what’s wrong? Have these servants scared you?” Xu Jingyi asked with feigned concern.
Xia Chenge put down her chopsticks. “In your eyes, am I easy to manipulate? Can anyone ride on my head? If you want to say that, you set a bad example. If you hadn’t been usurping my position all these years, how could others dare to treat me like this!”
“Do you know what you’re saying, Xiao Ge!” Xu Jingyi’s face darkened.
Xia Chenge retorted sharply. “Or can you explain why my grandfather and grandmother lay upstairs for so many years without any caregivers, and only I took care of them?”
“If you had even a shred of conscience, you wouldn’t have occupied what belongs to me, let me suffer all sorts of bullying, and turned a blind eye. I was foolish, but I’m not mentally challenged.”
“You know perfectly well that Xia Minglan was kicked out of the Xia family by me, yet you can still return to the Xia family as if nothing happened to test my limits. Your acting skills are excellent; it’s a shame you didn’t go into the entertainment industry.”
Hearing Xia Chenge’s words full of mockery, Xu Jingyi’s expression turned sinister. “Xiao Ge, you’re still a child, I won’t argue with you about this. Take back what you said, and I’ll pretend nothing happened.”
“Words spoken are like water poured out; can you take them back? You have a beautiful dream, but your appearance is too ugly! I don’t like this guest. See them out!” Xia Chenge ordered coldly.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Xu, our Little Miss doesn’t wish to entertain you today. Please leave.” Wei En made a gesture as instructed.
Xu Jingyi’s face turned ashen with anger. In the past ten years, who in the Xia family dared to give him such a look? In Haicheng, who didn’t treat him with utmost respect? Did this brat Xia Chenge really think the Xia family was her territory?
“When I’m talking to Xiao Ge, it’s not your turn to interrupt,” Xu Jingyi said coldly. “Xiao Ge, you’re still young. You don’t need to worry about family matters for now. I’ll handle them. You just focus on your studies.”
“Xu Jingyi, are you deaf or can’t you understand human language? This is the Xia family, and I am the master of the Xia family. You are not welcome here now. Please get out…” Xia Chenge said word by word, emphasizing the last word.
Xu Jingyi forcefully suppressed his surging anger, staring intently at Xia Chenge, as if trying to see through her.
He couldn’t understand. Xia Chenge hadn’t changed for so many years, so why had she become a completely different person after he left Haicheng for a month? Had Xia Chenge been replaced?
But no matter how he looked, Xia Chenge was still Xia Chenge. Her appearance was identical, and even the mole on the back of her ear was in the same place. Apart from no longer being as timid as before, there was no other discernible difference.
“Who are you?” Xu Jingyi asked through gritted teeth.
“Hahaha…” After Xia Chenge finished laughing, her eyes turned cold. “So, you’re not only deaf but also blind. I am Xia Chenge, Xia Mingxuan’s daughter, Xia Chenge. Don’t you recognize me?”
“This is outrageous! Xia Chenge, that’s enough!” Xu Jingyi finally exploded. After living a life of luxury for so many years, how could he endure such humiliation? “If you still want to enjoy your current life, then shut up and do what you’re supposed to do.”
“Don’t you understand human language? I told you to get out!” Xia Chenge’s gaze was sharp as she pointed to the door and repeated, “The door is that way. Do you want to be thrown out like your wife?”
Xu Jingyi gritted his teeth. “Very well, Xia Chenge. You’d better not regret what you’ve done today. You will pay the price for this.”
“Your wife said the same thing. You don’t need to say it again. Also, I’m waiting to pay the price, and I hope that day doesn’t come too soon!”
“Good, good, good!”
After saying “good” three times, Xu Jingyi flicked his sleeves and left.
Xia Chenge watched Xu Jingyi leave, then sat down again and calmly continued eating.
Wei En was pacing anxiously. “Little Miss, provoking him like this won’t do you any good. Why didn’t you just endure it?”
Xia Chenge replied calmly, “You endured for so many years, did he let you go? Don’t forget how far they pushed you. I won’t endure Xu Jingyi, and I certainly won’t let him squander everything the Xia family has and boss me around.”
“But Little Miss…”
“Grandpa Wei, you don’t need to say any more. I know what I’m doing. I have my limits, don’t worry.”
“Sigh…”
Wei En sighed deeply, his face full of worry.
Xia Chenge was completely unfazed and continued to eat heartily, enjoying the happiness that delicious food brought.
She wouldn’t let anyone ruin her beautiful moment of enjoying happiness.
Wei En paced back and forth, sighing and regretting that he hadn’t stopped Xia Chenge earlier. She had nothing; she should have kept a low profile. Why was she so quick to reveal her sharpness in front of Xu Jingyi?
After finishing her meal, Xia Chenge looked at Wei En helplessly. “Grandpa Wei, if you keep pacing around like that, I’m going to get dizzy.”
“I’m just worried. We finally had some hope, and now… sigh!” Wei En sighed deeply. “Why don’t you just follow the Old Master’s arrangement and go abroad?”
