Chapter 52: Are You Okay?
The next morning, Yan Yue urgently knocked on the door: “Little Miss, are you awake? Old Madam is in trouble!”
Xia Chenge’s sleepiness vanished upon hearing this. She threw on a light jacket and rushed out, hurrying towards the second floor: “Granny Wei, what happened to my grandmother?”
“I just went in and found Old Madam had fainted. She was fine last night, I don’t know why this suddenly happened today…” Yan Yue said, tears streaming down her face, feeling very guilty. “It’s all my fault for not taking good care of Old Madam.”
“Don’t blame yourself for now. Did you call an ambulance?” Xia Chenge’s brows furrowed. Old Madam’s condition was clearly improving, so why did it suddenly turn like this?
“I did, but it hasn’t arrived yet!”
As they spoke, Xia Chenge arrived at Old Madam’s room. Old Master anxiously watched his wife, regretting his powerlessness.
“Xiao Ge, what’s wrong with your grandmother?” Old Master asked, his voice trembling.
“Grandfather, don’t worry.” Xia Chenge soothed him while stepping forward to examine her carefully.
Old Madam’s breathing was very weak; it was likely a dire situation.
The nearest hospital was also a twenty-minute drive from the Xia family. It was doubtful that Old Madam, suffering from a sudden illness, could hold on.
Xia Chenge made a decisive move, telling Yan Yue to take Old Master out first: “Granny Wei, please take Grandfather out. No one is allowed to approach this room without my command. Also, this matter must not be leaked.”
Old Master and Yan Yue exchanged a look. They didn’t ask anything and followed Xia Chenge’s instructions.
After everyone left, Xia Chenge locked the room door and windows, then unplugged the power supply to the camera in the room. After confirming everything, she stood by the bed again.
She held Old Madam’s hands and activated the supernatural ability within her body, transferring her healing power to Old Madam.
The healing power in this body was still very weak. In less than ten seconds, Xia Chenge’s complexion turned frighteningly pale, large beads of cold sweat continuously forming on her forehead. Her lips also gradually became dry and cracked.
Her internal organs felt as if they were being squeezed together by something. Xia Chenge’s face was contorted in pain, and even her breathing became difficult.
Xia Chenge gritted her teeth and persevered. Only after feeling Old Madam’s condition improve did she release her hands, then violently spat out a mouthful of fresh blood, staining Old Madam’s quilt red.
All her strength was drained. She collapsed onto the floor, gasping for breath. It took a long time before she could catch her breath.
Xia Chenge struggled to stand up, plugged the monitor’s power back in, and opened the window.
After completing these tasks, Xia Chenge’s legs felt as if they were filled with lead. Although it was only about ten steps to the room door, she took a full minute to walk over, using all her strength to open it.
Old Master and Yan Yue had been waiting outside the door. As soon as Xia Chenge opened it, Yan Yue anxiously rushed forward: “Little Miss, what’s wrong? Why does your complexion look so bad?”
Xia Chenge weakly asked, “Has the ambulance arrived?”
“They’re waiting downstairs. Wei En is blocking anyone from coming up,” Yan Yue replied.
“Let them come up.” Xia Chenge leaned against the wall, barely managing to stay upright.
Old Master looked at her with deep concern: “Xiao Ge, are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” Xia Chenge gave a pale smile. “Grandmother will be fine too, don’t worry, Grandfather! Oh, and Granny Wei, please prepare something for me to eat. I’ll take it in the car.”
Yan Yue hurried downstairs.
“Xiao Ge, what exactly did you do?” Old Master looked at her. “Tell me.”
His eyes held concern and heartache, but no suspicion.
Xia Chenge felt a warmth in her heart, but she didn’t want Old Master to be sad: “I’ve been studying emergency treatment methods for your illnesses recently, but I was afraid you’d worry, so I didn’t let you be present.”
Hurried footsteps approached. Xia Chenge and Old Master stopped talking, making way for the doctors to carry Old Madam out.
“I’ll go to the hospital first,” Xia Chenge told Old Master, then gritted her teeth and followed.
Yan Yue had prepared breakfast and wanted to go with Xia Chenge, but Xia Chenge stopped her: “You stay home and take care of Grandfather. I can go alone.”
“But Little Miss, your complexion is so bad, you should rest first.”
“It’s nothing, I just didn’t sleep well last night.” Xia Chenge took the breakfast and left for the hospital with the driver.
Although she had temporarily saved Old Madam’s life, she was still in critical condition and was being rescued in the emergency room.
After eating breakfast, Xia Chenge’s body recovered significantly.
Looking at the illuminated light of the emergency room, Xia Chenge’s expression turned cold: For so many years, the two elders’ conditions were stable, and recently there were even signs of improvement. For it to suddenly flare up like this, it definitely wasn’t an accident!
She was determined to investigate this matter thoroughly. If a servant in the household was involved, then Old Master would also be in danger at any moment. She couldn’t leave a ticking time bomb at home, constantly threatening her!
After a long while, the operating room light turned off, and the doctor walked out, looking exhausted.
“Doctor, how is my grandmother?” Xia Chenge stepped forward to ask.
“The patient is out of danger, but we still need to observe her for a while before transferring her to a regular hospital room.”
“Thank you, Doctor.” Xia Chenge’s heart finally settled.
“However, your family members are quite something. The patient had a stroke, and you still gave her alcohol,” the doctor reprimanded. “Learn from this!”
“Yes, thank you, Doctor.”
The doctor then walked past Xia Chenge and returned to his office.
Xia Chenge’s expression turned extremely grim. Who was it, who dared to be so bold?
After confirming there was no danger, Old Madam was transferred to a hospital room, and Xia Chenge stayed at the hospital to care for her.
Wei En rushed over. Xia Chenge relayed the doctor’s words to Wei En, who turned ashen with anger: “Unacceptable! This is too hateful. To do something so insane!”
“However, Old Madam’s meals have been personally prepared by my wife recently…” After a moment, Wei En frowned again. “Could it be that my wife made a mistake?”
“It couldn’t be Granny Wei,” Xia Chenge stated confidently. “There are too many ways to tamper with food. Granny Wei couldn’t guarantee everything was safe.”
It wasn’t that she was naive, but Yan Yue had no reason to do such a thing.
Wei En was grateful: “Little Miss, thank you for your trust. But if it truly was her mistake, please do not be soft-hearted. Such a mistake is unforgivable.”
“Don’t jump to conclusions yet. I will investigate this matter. You just act as if you know nothing. Oh, right, I’ll take care of Grandmother. You should go back first. When you get home, make sure someone knows that Grandmother did not survive the rescue.”
“Why? Old Madam clearly…”
“Just do as I say.”
“But…”
“I can take leave from school. It’s not a big deal to miss a few days of school.”
Seeing this, Wei En left the hospital with a heavy heart.
A hint of killing intent flashed in Xia Chenge’s eyes: They thought they had succeeded, and the perpetrator would surely inform their mastermind!
