Chapter 63: Remember to Like
( The previous two chapters have been revised. Please take a look again.)
“Hahaha, when did you become someone else’s tool?” As soon as the exposé was released, Xia Chenge received a call from Ling Hanmu, who was laughing so hard he could barely breathe.
Xia Chenge said expressionlessly, “The former Xia Chenge was their tool. Xia Minglan wasn’t wrong.”
“Then what about now? Is the current Xia Chenge still willing to be their tool?” Ling Hanmu stopped laughing and asked seriously.
Xia Chenge said proudly, “The current me is not someone they can use.”
No one could ever use her, neither in the apocalypse nor now!
“Then, esteemed classmate Xia Chenge, is there anything I can do for you?” Ling Hanmu said solemnly.
Xia Chenge was successfully amused by his words. “No need, classmate Ling Hanmu. You can just watch the show. If you think it’s exciting, remember to give it a thumbs up!”
“Yes, Commander!” Ling Hanmu said sternly.
As soon as he said that, Xia Chenge felt a wave of dizziness again. She quickly held onto something nearby to steady herself.
The feeling of dizziness passed quickly, and Xia Chenge immediately returned to normal. If she hadn’t been holding onto something, she would have almost thought it was an illusion.
She didn’t grasp that fleeting image and couldn’t explain why the word “Commander” felt so familiar to her.
“Little Brother, what’s wrong?” Ling Hanmu keenly sensed that something was amiss with Xia Chenge.
Xia Chenge snapped back to attention. “I’m fine. Someone’s calling me. I’ll contact you later.”
After saying that, Xia Chenge hung up the phone, lest Ling Hanmu discover anything.
Xia Chenge rubbed her temples. She hadn’t been to school for several days. Although she hadn’t fallen behind on her homework, she couldn’t overdo it, or people would start gossiping about it again.
Although the rumors at school couldn’t cause her any substantial harm, the things she was about to do were too attention-grabbing. It was better to have one less trouble to avoid being targeted after dealing with Xu Jingyi.
The exposé released by Xia Minglan quickly brainwashed some of the overly compassionate and naive individuals, who all felt indignant on Xia Minglan’s behalf.
Since Old Madam Xia had never officially appeared, and apart from medical staff, basically no one knew if she was still alive. The video from before couldn’t prove anything.
After those naive individuals calmed down, they began to analyze the purpose of the video with great conviction. Among them were influential public figures who publicly sided with Xia Minglan and defended her.
In an instant, the stances became polarized, and the keyboard warriors, who had nothing better to do, severely criticized Xia Chenge.
Looking at the comments filled with personal attacks, Xia Chenge calmly uploaded the video of Xu Jingyun smashing her bowl, then locked her phone screen and went downstairs without saying a word.
“Little Miss, are you going to school?” Wei En immediately stepped forward to ask when he saw Xia Chenge coming downstairs with her schoolbag. “I’ll arrange a driver for you right away.”
Xia Chenge waved her hand. “No need. Just take care of Grandfather and Grandmother.”
“But there’s so much gossip outside now. I’m worried you’ll encounter danger if you go out alone. It’s safer to have a driver take you,” Wei En insisted this time.
Seeing this, Xia Chenge could only reluctantly agree to his arrangements.
Wei En’s prediction was spot on. As soon as the Xia family’s car drove out of the gate, a swarm of reporters rushed forward, blocking the car and preventing it from moving.
They desperately pounded on the car windows, trying to interview Xia Chenge.
Seeing the situation, the driver looked back worriedly and asked, “Little Miss, perhaps we shouldn’t go out today. Look at this…”
“Honk the horn. If they don’t move, just drive forward!” Xia Chenge sat calmly in the back seat, her composed demeanor making the driver feel inferior.
The driver did as he was told, but the reporters, probably emboldened by their numbers, refused to budge an inch, convinced that Xia Chenge wouldn’t dare to have the driver push forward.
However, they never expected that Xia Chenge would completely ignore their presence. The car accelerated, startling the reporters into scattering like birds.
Xia Chenge smirked slightly. Did mere mortals think they could compete with a car in terms of toughness?
With the reporters no longer blocking the way, the car shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.
The reporters watched the car speed away, stamping their feet in anger.
They decided to report on Xia Chenge’s inhumane attempt to run people over!
When Xia Chenge arrived at school, there were still reporters blocking her.
“Little Miss, why don’t we go back? There are so many people, I’m worried about you,” the driver said.
“It’s fine. You go back first and pick me up after school this afternoon,” Xia Chenge said calmly, not bothered by the reporters outside at all.
The driver had no choice but to get out and open the door for her.
Seeing this, the reporters immediately swarmed forward, their camera flashes incessantly capturing Xia Chenge:
“Miss Xia Chenge, what are your thoughts on the video online?”
“Was Miss Xia Minglan really abusing Mr. Xia all along? Do you have anything to say about this?”
“It’s reported online that you have a mental illness. Do you think you pose a great threat to public safety?”
“Miss Xia Chenge, is Old Madam Xia still alive? Can you explain?”
…
Sharp questions drowned Xia Chenge like a tide. The driver desperately tried to protect her, but being outnumbered and outmatched, he was quickly pushed out of the encirclement, leaving Xia Chenge trapped in the middle, frantically trying to escape.
Xia Chenge remained expressionless, letting them push her around.
She was contemplating if she leaped out of the crowd, would she immediately become tomorrow’s headline?
However, Xia Chenge eventually gave up on such a sensational escape method to avoid unnecessary trouble.
She cast a cold glance at the reporters closest to her. The reporters, with fanatical eagerness to extract secrets from Xia Chenge, met her gaze and felt a chill in their hearts, involuntarily stepping back.
“Move aside!” Xia Chenge commanded in a deep, resonant voice.
The noisy school gate immediately fell silent.
Xia Chenge exuded a terrifying aura, like a born king.
Everyone involuntarily retreated, their hearts feeling as if a heavy stone had been placed upon them, making it difficult to breathe.
Xia Chenge held her head high and proudly walked through the crowd of reporters, her sharp demeanor inspiring awe.
After exiting the crowd, Xia Chenge glanced back at them. “You believe rumors that are just hearsay, without any logic. You have no professional ethics as reporters. You might as well call yourselves paparazzi!”
With that, she entered the school. The group of reporters broke out in a cold sweat because of her words.
They looked at each other, unable to explain why they were so afraid of Xia Chenge just now. She was only a high school student, so why did she possess such a powerful aura?
