Chapter 76: Why Are You Here?
During this time, she had caused Xu Jingyi too many losses, making him wary of her, which was why he could temporarily keep Xu Jingyi in check.
Once Xu Jingyi came to his senses and realized something was wrong, Wei Lixin would be in trouble!
Xia Chenge decisively bought the fastest flight to P City.
Three hours later, Xia Chenge arrived in P City.
Wei Lixin, despite having a master’s degree in economics and management, was secretly driven to ruin by Xu Jingyi due to his involvement with the Xia family. He couldn’t find any work and could only work as a construction worker in a fifth or sixth-tier city. No matter how hard he tried, he would never have a chance to get ahead.
Following the address given by Wei En, Xia Chenge quickly found the construction site where Wei Lixin was working.
However, when she inquired, she was told that Wei Lixin had settled his wages half a month ago and had not returned to the construction site.
Xia Chenge frowned slightly, a sense of unease creeping into her heart. “Uncle, do you know where he lives?”
“Him? He seems to be renting a place in that urban village across the way. I’m not sure of the specifics. But I do know his child attends Hongxing Primary School in the fourth grade. You could try going there; he picks his child up from school every day.”
“Okay, thank you, uncle.”
Xia Chenge immediately rushed towards Hongxing Primary School. She had seen the child’s photo and would recognize him.
It was precisely lunchtime, the time for school to end, and the school gate was crowded with parents picking up their children.
After most of the people had left, Xia Chenge finally saw Wei Lixin’s son, Wei Yu, emerge.
While other children were hopping and skipping with joy, he was like a hedgehog, his nerves taut and his movements cautious.
Xia Chenge didn’t approach him immediately but slowly followed behind him.
Once they were a certain distance from the school, Xia Chenge stepped forward and stopped Wei Yu. “Xiao Yu, where is your father?”
Upon hearing her voice, Wei Yu became wary, staring at Xia Chenge in silence.
Xia Chenge felt a bit helpless and took out her mobile phone to video call Wei En. Once connected, she handed the phone to Wei Yu.
Seeing Wei En, Wei Yu’s expression softened slightly, and he softly called out, “Grandfather.”
After Wei En spoke with him for a while, Wei Yu finally let down his guard and handed the phone back to Xia Chenge.
He remained silent and walked straight ahead, with Xia Chenge following him.
“My dad is being held captive,” Wei Yu said in a low voice after a long pause.
“Dad said he would take me and Mom home.”
Hearing this, Xia Chenge felt a pang of sadness.
If it weren’t for the Xia family, Wei En’s family would have been harmonious and joyful.
“Xiao Yu, I will rescue your father. Do you know where your father is?” Xia Chenge softened her voice.
“He’s at home, but they won’t let us see Dad or talk to him,” Wei Yu said, his head bowed low.
Xia Chenge asked Wei Yu other questions, gaining a general understanding of his family’s situation.
Haicheng was so far from P City, and Xu Jingyi’s people might not recognize her. She decided to rescue him directly.
“Xiao Yu, shall we go back to Haicheng this afternoon?” Xia Chenge asked softly, putting an arm around Wei Yu’s shoulder.
“Where are my mom and dad?” He didn’t reject Xia Chenge and looked up at her intently.
“We’ll go back together, and you won’t be bullied at school anymore.”
“Okay, I want to go back to Haicheng.”
“Good boy! When we get home later, you wait outside and come in when I call you.”
Wei Yu nodded vigorously.
Xia Chenge smiled and stroked his head.
Xu Jingyi was truly a despicable and shameless scoundrel. Wei Yu was just a child, yet he had instructed people to bully him. Wei Yu’s wary demeanor clearly indicated he had been bullied for a long time.
“Sister Chenge, our house is the one with people at the entrance,” fifteen minutes later, Wei Yu cautiously peeked from the alley entrance and pointed to a dilapidated bungalow at the end of the alley, saying to Xia Chenge.
Xia Chenge looked over and saw two men squatting on the ground in front of the door, smoking.
According to Wei Yu, his mother, Du Qiulan, was also being held by Xu Jingyi’s men. She was not allowed to leave the house and had to cook at home, with the groceries bought by those men.
Xia Chenge listened intently for a moment. Xu Jingyi had arranged for five people. Four were inside the house, and two were outside. That meant one was likely out.
She had originally planned to have Xiao Yu hide outside, but that would put him in danger. “Xiao Yu, let’s hide first. Someone might be going out to buy groceries now, so let’s wait before going back.”
Only when the person who went out was dealt with would Wei Yu be safe.
However, Xia Chenge did not expect that what she would be waiting for was not just the person going out, but Xu Jingyi himself!
“Sister Chenge, why are there so many more people?” Wei Yu, seeing the people following behind that man, fearfully moved closer to Xia Chenge.
Xia Chenge patted his shoulder, her gaze growing colder. “No matter how many people come, we’re not afraid. We’ll just wait here.”
Not long after Xu Jingyi entered the house, Wei Lixin and Du Qiulan were pushed out.
After telling Wei Yu to hide, Xia Chenge quietly approached Xu Jingyi.
“Xu Jingyi, what exactly do you want?” Wei Lixin said angrily. “This is illegal detention!”
“So what?” Xu Jingyi looked at him disdainfully. “This is P City. If I want you to live, you live. If I want you dead, you die!”
“In P City, I am the emperor. My word is law.”
“Is that so? I didn’t realize you, a man who lives off his wife, could be an emperor. How impressive!” Xia Chenge leaped out, saying sarcastically, “But I still don’t understand, why do you have to rely on your wife to get ahead?”
Xu Jingyi was startled. When he saw it was Xia Chenge, his complexion changed drastically.
Xia Chenge smiled slightly. “What a coincidence, we meet again!”
“You, how did you get here?” Xu Jingyi’s voice held a hint of fear that he himself didn’t notice.
“Why can’t I be here? Do you really think P City belongs to you?” Xia Chenge sneered, casually glancing at the people holding Wei Lixin and Du Qiulan. “Truly a despicable and shameless scoundrel hiding behind a mask of hypocrisy!”
Xu Jingyi finally regained his composure. Seeing his clear numerical advantage, he finally felt a sense of triumph. “Xia Chenge, aren’t you very capable? Come on, go and save them. Didn’t you claim my people were under your control? How come what I see is completely different?”
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. Let me think, should I have Wei Lixin’s hands and feet broken, or should I cripple his son?”
“Xu Jingyi, I warn you, if you dare to do anything, I’ll fight you to the death,” Wei Lixin roared hysterically.
“You beast, may you die a terrible death!” Du Qiulan also cursed sharply.
“Uncle Wei, be brave. The entire internet is broadcasting this live. If he makes a move, it will be ironclad evidence, and no one will be able to protect him,” Xia Chenge said with a smile, raising a inconspicuous small object in her hand.
Xu Jingyi’s eyes widened, and he was furious. “Xia Chenge, are you threatening me again?”
“Who said that? What’s the point of threatening you every time? Can’t you recognize this? It’s a miniature camera,” Xia Chenge said calmly. “Alas, after wearing a mask for so long and having it torn off, I wonder what the shareholders of Sheng Xia will think of you?”
