Chapter 8: Finally Waiting
After spending an hour, Xia Chenge cleaned up the original owner’s small room. Xia Chenge dragged the packed sundries to Xu Jingyun’s room and knocked on her room door.
As soon as she saw Xia Chenge, Xu Jingyun’s eyes widened in anger: “What are you doing here in the middle of the night?”
Xia Chenge pushed Xu Jingyun aside with one hand, then kicked open the room door, and then threw all the sundries inside. They landed precisely on Xu Jingyun’s large bed.
“Ah…” Xu Jingyun screamed.
Xia Chenge said coldly, “Shut up, or I’ll choke you to death!”
Xu Jingyun immediately swallowed her scream in fear and looked at Xia Chenge in terror as she walked out of her room.
After a day of non-stop activity, Xia Chenge could finally catch her breath. She walked into the bathroom, washed her face thoroughly, flicked away the water droplets, and looked at the clean person in the mirror.
Her delicate facial features were exactly the same as in the apocalypse. In the apocalypse, Xia Chenge was not only a genius girl but also the recognized number one beauty.
However, the original owner had long, thick bangs, and because Xu Jingyun was jealous of the original owner’s appearance, she often made the original owner’s face dirty. To outsiders, the original owner appeared not only foolish but also ugly.
After she was reborn, she discovered this secret in the hospital…
The next day, Xia Chenge took leave from school and instead ordered the servants to clean the old man’s room.
Under her supervision, the room was finally free of the suffocating stench, and all the bedding was replaced with clean ones. The old man’s spirits seemed to have improved significantly.
The Old Master seemed to have something to say, hesitating. Xia Chenge waved the servants away.
“Grandfather, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?” Xia Chenge stepped forward and asked.
The Old Master gestured for her to come closer.
Xia Chenge lowered her head. The Old Master spoke in a voice only they could hear: “Do you still remember Grandpa Wei? Go find him and tell him that dawn is breaking, and the Old Master is old.”
Xia Chenge was slightly surprised.
“This is Grandfather’s last asset. You must keep it safe!” the Old Master instructed carefully, “Don’t let your Aunt find out.”
She had originally planned to ask the old couple if they had any other industries besides the company monopolized by Xu Jingyi, but she didn’t expect the Old Master to mention it before she could ask.
No wonder the Old Butler would check on her from time to time; it turned out the Old Master had made arrangements long ago!
If the Old Master hadn’t been paralyzed in bed, it would have been difficult for Xu Jingyi and the others to seize the Xia family…
So, could the current state of the two elders also be their doing? The thought sent a chill down her spine, and Xia Chenge felt an uncontrollable rage:
After all, they were Xia Minglan’s biological parents, and they had divided their property equally between her and the original owner’s parents, never mistreating her because she was a daughter. Why did Xia Minglan still do something so beastly?
In the face of benefit, people are truly more terrifying than zombies!
With a heavy heart, Xia Chenge left the Xia family and followed the original owner’s memories to find Wei En’s home.
After Wei En was forced to leave the Xia family, Xu Jingyi had designed him to lose everything. Now he lived in the old west district of Haicheng, known as the slum.
Xia Chenge knocked on the door. Wei En was startled when he saw Xia Chenge standing outside.
“Little Miss, why are you here?” Wei En quickly pulled Xia Chenge inside and examined her carefully, worried that something had happened to her. His concern was genuine, with no pretense.
“I’m fine, I came to find you,” Xia Chenge looked at him seriously.
“It’s good that you’re fine,” Wei En breathed a sigh of relief. After regaining his composure, he looked at her in astonishment, “Little Miss, was that you speaking just now?”
“It was me,” Xia Chenge smiled slightly, “My illness is cured, and I won’t act foolishly anymore.”
Wei En couldn’t believe it and became so excited he stammered, “That’s great, that’s great! Heaven has eyes, Buddha blesses us, God blesses us!”
He cried and laughed, startling his wife out. Wei En excitedly pulled his wife over and told her about Xia Chenge’s recovery, causing her to hug Xia Chenge and cry and laugh.
Xia Chenge patiently comforted them until their emotions calmed down.
Then, Xia Chenge got straight to the point: “Grandfather sent me to find you, saying that dawn is breaking and he is old.”
Wei En was stunned for a moment: “Did the Old Master really say that?”
Xia Chenge nodded.
Wei En wiped away tears and choked out, “In my lifetime, I’ve finally heard these words! Little Miss, please wait a moment.”
With that, Wei En hurried back into the room.
“Little Miss…” Granny Wei took her hand, her eyes flickering. A thousand words were contained in this hopeful call.
Xia Chenge understood. They had placed their hope for the Xia family on her. Although she came from the apocalypse, she had replaced the Xia Chenge of this era, and she would definitely reclaim everything that belonged to the original owner.
“Granny Wei, don’t worry, I won’t let you down,” Xia Chenge said seriously.
At that moment, Wei En came out of the room holding a metal box.
“The Old Master gave this to me two years ago. He said if you were still like this after you came of age, it should all be donated, not given to Xu Jingyi,” Wei En handed the box to Xia Chenge, “Fortunately…”
Xia Chenge took the box and opened it, her pupils contracting: So the Old Master’s wealth was all here. No wonder the three of them could still stay in the Xia family all these years; Xu Jingyi hadn’t completely taken everything from the Xia family.
“I used to refuse to face reality and kept avoiding it. The day I was pushed down the stairs, I suddenly woke up. If I don’t become powerful, I will always be fish on a chopping board for others. What about my family?” Xia Chenge explained gently as she flipped through the documents inside.
Wei En nodded vigorously: “Yes, Little Miss is the best. We believe you can do it. Although I have little influence, I can still help with some things. Just ask, Little Miss.”
Xia Chenge agreed. The Old Master had been paralyzed in bed for over ten years and was no longer able to manage the company. Although the company was nominally still the Xia family’s, in reality, it was almost Xu Jingyi’s.
She said firmly to the two elders, “I will definitely help you get the justice that others owe you. You won’t have to wait too long for that day!”
Afterward, Xia Chenge politely declined Wei En’s offer to escort her home and left alone.
The deaths of the original owner’s parents were full of suspicion. Not only did she believe her parents were murdered, but even the Old Master suspected it.
Xu Jingyi probably never imagined that the Old Master would entrust such important items to Wei En…
Wei En is a trustworthy person!
Xia Chenge looked through the contents of the box under the streetlights. They were all asset certificates, property deeds from home and abroad, and two bank cards. She had just obtained a huge fortune?
