Chapter 155: A Strange Event
Early in the morning, the hotel welcomed many distinguished guests dressed in suits. While the grand hotel always had important people coming and going, the peculiar thing about this group of guests was that they insisted on carrying their own luggage when checking in, refusing assistance from the room service staff.
They insisted on carrying the heavy suitcases themselves.
Manager Hong stood aside, looking puzzled, and said, “What exactly is wrong here?”
At this moment, Bruce and Andrei had just returned from Japan for their first day back at work. Bruce was recounting their recent itinerary when they happened to encounter Manager Hong, who was deep in thought.
“Manager Hong, what are you contemplating here?”

Andrei responded with an “Oh,” and said, “The Chairman won’t be back until the afternoon. You can tell me that again then!”
Team Leader Hong gave an awkward smile and continued, “I don’t know what’s going on with today’s guests; they won’t let us help them with their heavy luggage!”
Andrei immediately asked, “Are these guests here just for accommodation?”
Manager Hong shook his head, “It seems they are here to attend a charity event, organized by Director Bai!”
Andrei repeated, “Director Bai~~~ Manager Hong, you go check on the VIP customers first. Bruce and I will go to the event venue.”
Manager Hong bowed and left!
Bruce also sensed something was amiss and said, “It seems these people are not here just for a charity event.”
As soon as they arrived at the venue, they saw it was heavily guarded, with many major entrepreneurs entering and exiting. Everyone had to show a pass to enter; without one, no one was allowed in.
Moreover, the entrance was surrounded by several burly bodyguards.
Andrei walked over immediately but was stopped. He looked at the bodyguard doubtfully and asked, “Are you hotel employees?”
The bodyguard replied without blinking, “I’m sorry, please go around if you don’t have a pass. Thank you for your cooperation!!”
Andrei brushed the bodyguard’s hand away and said, “Playing mysterious in my hotel, don’t you know who I am?”
The bodyguard remained firm. Just then, Director Bai was escorting an oil tycoon out and saw Andrei causing a scene. He immediately approached and waved to the bodyguard, saying, “Isn’t this our General Manager? How did you get back from Japan so early?”
Andrei gave a cold smile, “I wonder what Director Bai is up to while the Chairman is away. With such tight security, it couldn’t be gambling, could it?”
Director Bai flinched slightly, then smiled and said, “General Manager, your scope of management seems a bit broad. Do you mean to say that I, a dignified Director, need your approval as a mere General Manager?!”
Andrei, having been cornered, immediately retorted, “Director Bai, there’s no need to be nervous. I was just joking!”
Then, he turned to the oil tycoon and said, “Isn’t this President Shi? I heard you’ve been in America. What brings you back to the country now?”
Director Bai immediately raised an eyebrow awkwardly and said to the oil tycoon, trying to cover up, “President Shi, we’ll discuss the hotel’s overseas construction matters later!”
President Shi nodded faintly and then said to Andrei, “Andrei, goodbye!”
Andrei’s smile subtly widened, without much further pleasantry.
He then watched President Shi enter the venue. Andrei peered through a small gap to observe the situation inside. He noticed it was very noisy, with frequent cheers, unlike a charity auction.
He looked at Director Bai suspiciously and asked, “I heard you specifically chose the Chairman’s absence to hold an important event, but why does this feel more like gambling than an auction?”
Director Bai sneered, “General Manager, go do what you need to do. This place doesn’t need you.”
Andrei, filled with doubt, returned to the office with Bruce.
As soon as they sat down, Andrei instructed, “Bruce, go find out what Director Bai is up to. He’s definitely plotting something this time!”
