Chapter 54: He Doesn’t Love Me At All
Mrs. Liao put on her mask and, under the probing gazes of the surrounding passersby, followed the police car away.
Si Heng sat in the passenger seat and typed a WeChat message to Jiang Yuan in the back seat.
【 Miss Jiang, Mrs. Liao is a suspect? 】
The phone vibrated.
Jiang Yuan unlocked it and saw Si Heng’s message.
She quickly typed a few words and sent them: 【 The three goldfish sisters told me that Mr. Liao was pushed off the cliff by Mrs. Liao. 】
Si Heng saw these words, his dark eyes narrowed slightly, his expression solemn.
He asked: 【 Why did Mrs. Liao do this? 】
Jiang Yuan: 【 Mrs. Liao was cheating with her cousin, and Mr. Liao found out. Mr. Liao wanted a divorce and demanded that Mrs. Liao leave with nothing. Mrs. Liao refused and told her cousin she wanted to kill Mr. Liao. 】
【 Her cousin suggested she ask Mr. Liao to go mountain climbing. There were no surveillance cameras on the mountain, so pushing Mr. Liao off would be done without anyone knowing. 】
【 The youngest goldfish said that during this period, her cousin had been living with Mrs. Liao. When I took Jin Jin to Mr. Liao’s house that day, it was also Mrs. Liao’s cousin who opened the door. 】
After reading these few sentences, Si Heng turned off his phone screen and looked up through the rearview mirror to calmly observe Mrs. Liao.
She lowered her eyes, her brow tightly furrowed, looking a bit flustered and uneasy.
When she personally pushed her husband, Liao Xingyuan, off the cliff, was she this uneasy?
Upon arriving at the police station, Mrs. Liao was taken to the interrogation room.
Si Heng, along with Jiang Yuan and others, went into the conference room to organize the case details, planning the interrogation approach and key points in advance.
Meng Xiaokai listened, stunned, “Boss, how could you suspect Mrs. Liao of being the murderer?”
“Miss Jiang discovered it,” Si Heng said, then continued, “Has Mrs. Liao’s cousin arrived?”
Xiao Xu shook her head: “Not yet. He said he’s out of town right now and can’t make it.”
“Interrogate Mrs. Liao first,” Si Heng stood up and, before leaving the conference room, turned back to instruct Meng Xiaokai, “Take good care of our consultant.”
“Yes, boss!” Meng Xiaokai immediately agreed.
Xiao Xu followed Si Heng out, carrying her laptop.
In the interrogation room.
Mrs. Liao clasped her hands nervously on her knees; the longer she sat there, the more uneasy she felt.
Why did the police bring me here?
Have they discovered something?
She meticulously recalled her answers; she shouldn’t have said anything she shouldn’t have.
At this moment, the interrogation room door was pushed open from the outside.
Si Heng sat opposite her, his expression stern.
Xiao Xu, following the procedure, asked for her identity information.
Si Heng slightly parted his lips, his voice seeming to carry a chill: “Mrs. Liao, why did you push Mr. Liao off the cliff?”
Hearing this, Mrs. Liao’s heart trembled, her pupils slightly contracted, her face full of disbelief, “What… what are you talking about?”
Si Heng repeated coldly, then continued: “Was it because Mr. Liao discovered your affair with your cousin?”
A storm surged in Mrs. Liao’s heart, a sense of fear like a surging undercurrent, as if it could engulf her entirely.
How is this possible…
How did he find out?
I answered so carefully just now, I didn’t leak anything.
“Mrs. Liao, are you very surprised?” Si Heng said slowly, “Are you wondering how we found all this out?”
He paused slightly, then continued, “Your cousin has already confessed. He wants a reduced sentence, and his statement is that you, not wanting to leave with nothing, harbored murderous intent towards Mr. Liao.”
“Impossible!” Mrs. Liao flatly denied, “I don’t believe it!”
“Mrs. Liao, people can do anything when they’re desperate,” Si Heng said lightly, “Can we talk about why you pushed Mr. Liao off the cliff?”
Mrs. Liao cried bitterly, her face contorted, “What’s the use of telling you? You don’t know anything!”
The next second, she realized she had spoken out of turn in her emotional agitation, her expression flustered, “I didn’t do it! Liao Xingyuan fell off the cliff himself, his death has nothing to do with me!”
“It’s okay, we can talk again when you calm down.” Si Heng left the interrogation room with Xiao Xu.
Meng Xiaokai saw them come out and asked in a low voice: “Boss, did she confess?”
“Not yet,” Si Heng shook his head, then asked, “Where is Miss Jiang?”
Meng Xiaokai: “She’s in the Bureau Chief’s office.”
Jiang Yuan originally thought Lou Qinglin had called her about a new case, but it turned out to be about personal matters.
“Miss Jiang, I’m truly sorry to trouble you to come to my home.”
Lou Qinglin had a daughter late in life; although he is forty-three this year, he has a daughter who just started kindergarten.
Recently, his daughter, Lou Xixi, got a kitten. It was very clingy when it first arrived home, but the next day it started ignoring Xixi.
It wouldn’t let Xixi hold it, nor would it let her pet it, and sometimes it would even growl at her.
Lou Qinglin had considered sending the kitten away and buying a new one, but his daughter disagreed, and he was helpless, so he could only ask Jiang Yuan for help.
He had originally thought of asking Si Heng to call her, but he didn’t expect to run into her today.
“It’s just a small matter,” Jiang Yuan smiled, “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving now.”
Seeing her stand up to leave, Lou Qinglin summoned his courage and said, “Perhaps we could exchange contact information? I’ll have my wife add you on WeChat.”
“Okay,” Jiang Yuan wrote down her WeChat ID.
Walking out of Lou Qinglin’s office, she happened to see Si Heng. Jiang Yuan walked up to him, “Captain Si, did she confess?”
“Not yet,” Si Heng handed her the printed conversation transcript, “Take a look.”
Jiang Yuan scanned it and frowned, “Why don’t you let me talk to her?”
Si Heng was silent for a few seconds, then nodded, “Okay.”
The interrogation room door opened again. Jiang Yuan saw Mrs. Liao hunched over the table, her eyes vacant, her face streaked with tears.
“Mrs. Liao,” she gently tapped the table with her fingertips, “Do you have the strength to speak now?”
The response was a deathly silence.
Jiang Yuan and Xiao Xu exchanged a look.
She thought for a moment, then spoke again, “Mr. Liao’s friends all praised him as a good person, and even you said he was good, so why did you cheat? Was there any hardship?”
As the words fell, Mrs. Liao’s unfocused eyes finally moved.
She suddenly looked up, staring at Jiang Yuan, and let out a cold laugh, with a hint of madness, “He’s not a good person at all!”
“You think he wasn’t good?” Jiang Yuan sat down opposite her, and Xiao Xu quickly opened her laptop.
“He doesn’t love me at all!” Mrs. Liao said indignantly, with a trace of unwillingness, “He wouldn’t touch me every night, no matter how I tried to seduce him, he ignored me! Since he wouldn’t touch me, I’d find another man myself!”
Jiang Yuan furrowed her delicate brows: “If he didn’t love you, why did he marry you?”
“Why?” Mrs. Liao laughed coldly, her eyes filled with hatred, “Of course, it’s because I looked like his first love! If I had known, I would never have married him in the first place!”
Thank you, little treasures, for your votes. Goodnight~
