Chapter 186: Words Of Wisdom
Xuan Xia took one look at Ren Yaozhe’s ghostly appearance and knew he wasn’t the type to answer every question and spill everything.
But there was one question that had been bothering her for a long time, and even knowing the chance of getting an answer was slim, she still felt uneasy without asking.
So she didn’t hold back anymore. “I don’t care what you Ren Family and Cui Family are up to. I just want to know, why are you targeting me? You’d better give me a good reason.”
Ren Yaozhe was stumped by her question, a trace of confusion appearing on his face, as if he didn’t understand what Xuan Xia was saying.
But this expression only lingered on his face for a brief second. Soon, he smiled and said in a profound and inscrutable tone, “You guess.”
“…”
After staring at him for a few seconds, Xuan Xia kept a straight face and replied dryly, “You guess whether I guess or not.”
Ren Yaozhe: “…”
This woman was always so unpredictable.
Without getting an answer, Xuan Xia was in a bad mood. She thought for a moment and changed her question: “Is there anyone else in this world that you care about?”
Ren Yaozhe narrowed his eyes. “What are you trying to threaten me with?”
“What else? I hope the people you care about are also ordinary folks without the power to truss a chicken, so it’s fair.”
“Fair?” Ren Yaozhe furrowed his brows deeply. He didn’t understand.
Xuan Xia fake-smiled at him and said, “Yeah, whatever you did to me before, I’ll do the same to the people you care about. But I’m different from you. I’ll definitely strike when they’re powerless, achieve my goal directly, and won’t give them any chance to breathe.”
Ren Yaozhe looked into her eyes and realized she wasn’t bluffing.
Then he heard her say, “Moreover, I won’t care how many people you care about. One counts as one—as long as I find them. Don’t worry, if I can find you, I’ll definitely find them too.”
Ren Yaozhe stared at Xuan Xia in shock, his mind searching for words to describe the woman in front of him.
Xuan Xia didn’t dodge, meeting his gaze steadily.
Moments later, Ren Yaozhe found the words and had an idea.
This woman, if she had fallen into his hands from the start, could definitely be trained into a great accomplice who would stop at nothing.
At this thought, Ren Yaozhe laughed again, but since his neck hadn’t recovered from being strangled, his laughter sounded extremely grating.
The laughter was so grating that Xuan Xia frowned in disgust.
Unable to keep up the act, Daoist Master Qin suddenly coughed twice in a muffled voice from the side, and she immediately shifted her attention, looking at him with concern.
“Nothing serious, right?”
Daoist Master Qin said as usual that it was nothing.
But Xuan Xia wasn’t reassured. She wanted to say that Ren Yaozhe had no chance to escape now, so they might as well go to the hospital first.
Just as she was about to speak her suggestion, Ren Yaozhe beat her to it: “You really are a good prospect. No matter who is targeting you, if they can’t have you, destroying you is indeed the best option.”
Xuan Xia glared at him: “You…”
What kind of talk was that!
She really wanted to kick him!!
Daoist Master Qin’s face also darkened, his tone even colder as he reminded him again: “You don’t have much time left. You should leave some last words.”
Ren Yaozhe then let out a heh heh heh laugh.
But for some reason, Xuan Xia heard a sense of desolation in his laughter.
It turned out that whether good or bad, when one’s time was near, they all felt the same.
Xuan Xia asked him, “From being a brilliant rising star to your current ghostly state, do you regret it?”
The laughter stopped abruptly.
Ren Yaozhe stared fixedly at her. After a while, he slowly closed his eyes.
If not for his eyelids trembling slightly, Xuan Xia would have suspected he was already dead.
Even at this point, he was still keeping silent. Xuan Xia pursed her lips and stopped paying attention to him, turning to ask Daoist Master Qin instead.
“He’s so uncooperative. Are you still going to question him?”
Daoist Master Qin said, “No need to question him.”
After a pause, Daoist Master Qin added, “Don’t take his words to heart.”
Xuan Xia wondered which words, then realized Daoist Master Qin meant the “destroy” comment.
She really hadn’t taken it to heart.
…
Not long after, Gong Ziliu arrived with a group of Daoist masters from Baoyi Temple.
Daoist Master Qin handed Ren Yaozhe over to Gong Ziliu. Ren Yaozhe’s time was near, just as Xuan Xia had said—indeed, he couldn’t die in Changsheng Temple.
Additionally, the religious ceremony at Changsheng Temple wasn’t finished yet, Yan Wentao had already been sent to the hospital, so the final deliverance work was left to the Daoist masters from Baoyi Temple.
Daoist Master Qin also summoned the woman from the bell and left her in the deliverance formation.
The woman knew she was going to be delivered and was very unwilling, saying she wanted to see that person, and if she couldn’t see that person, she wouldn’t leave, and so on.
But Daoist Master Qin ignored her.
The person she wanted to see was long gone from this world.
After all the loose ends were explained, Daoist Master Qin and Xuan Xia were driven to the hospital by the Daoist masters from Baoyi Temple.
At the hospital, Xuan Xia inevitably had to undergo a bunch of checks.
After a busy night waiting for the results, fortunately, her body was very healthy with no issues at all.
Daoist Master Qin’s checkup showed no major problems, just a bit of qi deficiency.
Daoist Master Qin seemed dissatisfied with this result.
Xuan Xia thought it was reliable. He’d drawn so many talismans with his own blood—how could he not be depleted? So she asked the doctor what to do.
The doctor said it wasn’t a big problem; dietary supplementation for a while would do.
The only one with issues was Yan Wentao; he inevitably had to stay in the hospital for a few days for observation.
–
After dawn, Daoist Master Qin left Lu Changfeng at the hospital to care for Yan Wentao, and the others returned to the temple together.
On the way back, Xuan Xia yawned and said, “Let’s rest today, no business operations. Everyone get some good sleep and catch up on rest.”
Uncle Zhong said, “Old folks sleep little anyway. I don’t feel tired.”
Xuan Xia disagreed: “Uncle Zhong, you’re selling your skills, not your life.”
Uncle Zhong laughed. “Alright, alright, I got it.”
Xuan Xia was most worried about Daoist Master Qin and specifically instructed him alone to rest as soon as they got back.
Daoist Master Qin agreed readily this time.
Back home, Uncle Zhong simply prepared some breakfast. To catch up on sleep, they needed to eat their fill first.
During breakfast, Daoist Master Qin received a call from Gong Ziliu.
Gong Ziliu said that Ren Yaozhe had passed away just before dawn.
Daoist Master Qin wasn’t surprised at all. After all, Ren Yaozhe’s time was up early. He’d used tricks to cling to life, but it was just lingering. Yesterday happened to be the Ghost Festival, and stealing more vitality wasn’t that easy.
Gong Ziliu added, “He said some words before dying, meant for you to hear.”
Daoist Master Qin asked, “What words?”
Gong Ziliu hesitated, then gave Daoist Master Qin a heads-up: “Not good words.”
“Mm, go ahead.”
Gong Ziliu said, “He said, curb your curiosity, avoid troubles. Too much curiosity, endless troubles, hard to live long. Your expectations will go against you.”
“He also said this doesn’t just apply to you, but to another person too. As for who, he didn’t say.”
