Chapter 218: Gold Medallion Fell Out Of The Bag
“Stealing?” Old Mrs. Fu’s expression flickered, a look of confusion on her face. “Xiao Yuan, are you saying Rongrong stole something?”
Jiang Yuan nodded, “Yes.”
Old Mrs. Fu frowned, her expression becoming serious. “Xiao Yuan, do you know Rongrong?”
“I don’t know her,” Jiang Yuan explained. “I met her for the first time today.”
“Then why do you say she stole something?” Old Mrs. Fu frowned tightly.
Jiang Yuan blinked her eyes. “Nini told me.”
Old Mrs. Fu froze. “Nini?”
Jiang Yuan said with a smile, “As soon as I arrived at your house this afternoon, Nini told me that there was a thief in the house.”
Old Mrs. Fu was stunned for a long while, not reacting.
She wondered why she hadn’t heard Nini when she told Jiang Yuan.
No…
“Xiao Yuan, how can you understand Nini speaking?” Old Mrs. Fu asked curiously.
Jiang Yuan: “Grandma Fu, I can understand Nini speaking. Do you believe what I say?”
Old Mrs. Fu answered almost without hesitation, “Just by looking at your face, I’ll believe anything you say.”
Jiang Yuan chuckled. “Then I definitely won’t let down your trust.”
“Come here and tell me what happened.” Old Mrs. Fu pulled her to the rest area and sat down. “Xiao Yuan, you speak.”
Jiang Yuan recounted the situation. “Zhou Rongrong was mopping just now, and Nini saw her take a gold medallion from a drawer in your walk-in closet.”
Old Mrs. Fu’s expression immediately darkened, displeasure surfacing between her aged brows and eyes.
She felt for Zhou Rongrong’s predicament, and they got along well. If the young lady lacked money, she could have said so directly. Why resort to such a despicable method?
Wait…
Old Mrs. Fu suddenly realized that Zhou Rongrong had come to her house to chat precisely to find an opportunity to steal something.
From the very beginning, Zhou Rongrong had her sights set on her jewelry!
Old Mrs. Fu was so angry her face turned ashen, and she said furiously, “This is too much, too much!”
She immediately took out her mobile phone and dialed Aunt Zhou’s number.
“Xiao Zhou, has Rongrong left?”
“Quickly keep her here, don’t let her leave.”
“I have something I want to say to her.”
“Okay, I’ll tell her to wait for you.” Aunt Zhou hung up the phone and quickly called out to Zhou Rongrong, who was changing her shoes, “Rongrong, wait a moment, the old madam wants to speak with you.”
Zhou Rongrong, who was secretly kicking Nini, who was by her shoes, with her foot, asked curiously, “Aunt, what does the old madam want to say to me?”
Aunt Zhou shook her head. “I don’t know.”
“Alright,” Zhou Rongrong changed back into her slippers, picked up her bag, and sat back down on the sofa.
“Ding—”
The elevator doors slowly opened from both sides, and Old Mrs. Fu stepped out of the carriage briskly.
“Grandma, you’re back.” Zhou Rongrong saw her return and immediately got up to greet her, affectionately hooking her arm. “I was just about to leave, and Aunt said you had something to tell me.”
Old Mrs. Fu’s face was cold. She brushed away Zhou Rongrong’s hand, her gaze sharp as she stared at her.
Zhou Rongrong had never seen such a look from the old madam before. She trembled in fear, retreated two steps, and said innocently, “Grandma, what’s wrong?”
Nini pounced towards Jiang Yuan, complaining wistfully, “Yuan Yuan, this thief just kicked me, it really hurt!”
Jiang Yuan leaned down and scooped the fluffy creature into her arms. “Okay, I’ll tell Grandma.”
“Tell me what?” Old Mrs. Fu turned her head to look at her, her expression softening.
Jiang Yuan leaned close to her ear and whispered, “Nini said she was kicked painfully by the thief.”
Seeing this, Zhou Rongrong felt inexplicably uneasy.
Old Mrs. Fu naturally knew who this thief referred to. She looked at Zhou Rongrong again, her gaze displeased, her voice tinged with anger, “Zhou Rongrong, you’ve gone too far!”
“Grandma…” Zhou Rongrong was extremely helpless. “Why are you suddenly so fierce with me? Did this sister speak ill of me to you?”
Aunt Zhou pursed her lips, her mood heavy.
She rarely saw Old Mrs. Fu so angry. What had Zhou Rongrong done?
Old Mrs. Fu’s face was cold. She caught sight of the bag Zhou Rongrong had placed beside her, reached out, and pulled it over, tipping the contents onto the sofa.
Zhou Rongrong had not expected her to do such a thing at all, and there was no time to stop it. She could only watch as the gold medallion fell out of her bag.
Seeing the gold medallion, Aunt Zhou’s eyes widened suddenly, disbelief appearing on her cheeks. “Isn’t that…”
“Ah!” Zhou Rongrong reacted quickly, feigning surprise. “Why would there be a gold medallion in my bag? Whose gold medallion is this?”
Old Mrs. Fu looked at her sarcastically. “Stop acting!”
“This is the old madam’s gold medallion,” Aunt Zhou recognized it at a glance. This was the old madam’s dowry.
Zhou Rongrong felt immense regret. She should have just left earlier!
What should she do now?
Zhou Rongrong lowered her eyes, frantically thinking of a solution.
Got it!
“Is this Grandma’s gold medallion?” Zhou Rongrong asked, her face full of bewilderment. “How did Grandma’s gold medallion get into my bag?”
Aunt Zhou said angrily, “You should be the one to answer that! Zhou Rongrong, you’d better be honest!”
Zhou Rongrong frowned, her expression innocent and wronged as she refuted, “Aunt, what do you mean by that? Are you implying that I stole Grandma’s gold medallion? I would never do such a thing. Although our family is poor, I’m poor but proud!”
“Then tell me, how did the gold medallion end up in your bag?” Aunt Zhou pointed at the gold medallion on the sofa, trembling with anger.
She was ashamed! She had let down the old madam!
“How would I know?” Zhou Rongrong’s eyes reddened, and she choked out, “Perhaps Nini accidentally carried it into my bag while playing?”
Hearing that she was being framed, Nini’s fur stood on end in anger, and it meowed fiercely, “You’re lying! How dare you! The cat is angry!”
Jiang Yuan smiled and stroked Nini, thinking that if Blueberry were in this situation, she would have likely jumped out and scratched someone by now.
Nini was too gentle.
Jiang Yuan said with a half-smile, “Then why didn’t Nini carry it into my bag? We play together much better.”
Zhou Rongrong’s eyes rolled, and she pointed at Jiang Yuan. “I know! You set me up, didn’t you? You just can’t stand it when Grandma is good to me, you’re jealous!”
Jiang Yuan thought her ability to twist facts was quite strong, first framing Nini, and now wrongly accusing herself.
“So you mean to say you never touched this gold medallion from beginning to end?”
Zhou Rongrong said righteously, “Yes! I didn’t touch it!”
“Alright,” Jiang Yuan turned to look at Old Mrs. Fu and said softly, “Grandma Fu, let’s call the police. Ask them to check for Zhou Rongrong’s fingerprints on it. Remember to hand over the surveillance footage from your walk-in closet to the police as well.”
Old Mrs. Fu blinked her eyes.
There was no surveillance installed in the house, but she didn’t say that. Instead, she nodded along with Jiang Yuan’s suggestion, “Okay, you help me copy the surveillance footage, and I’ll call the police.”
“What?” Zhou Rongrong exclaimed in shock. “Your walk-in closet has surveillance?”
