Chapter 307: “my Name Is Meng Yunting.”
He Linwen seemed to want to resonate with Si Heng and Meng Xiaokai, and choked out, “Officer, you are also men, you should understand my feelings. Which man can tolerate being humiliated like this by his girlfriend?”
“I asked you to tell the truth,” Meng Xiaokai said impatiently, “not to make up a story!”
Si Heng said coldly, “We already understand your motive for murder. We are giving you a chance to confess by asking you to explain yourself. Since you don’t cherish it, save your words for court.”
Meng Xiaokai walked up to He Linwen again and placed an arrest warrant on the table, “He Linwen, you are suspected of murdering Fang Mengyun…”
That night, He Linwen was sent to the detention center.
This matter can be considered concluded.
Jiang Yuan and Si Heng, along with a few others, had a late-night snack at a nearby barbecue restaurant before going home.
After staying up all night, she only slept a few hours before getting busy again. As soon as Jiang Yuan got home, she washed up and went to rest.
Perhaps she was too tired, as she fell asleep as soon as she lay down.
The next day, Jiang Yuan woke up naturally, and by the time she got up, it was nearly twelve o’clock noon.
When she went downstairs, she saw Zhan Zhan and Momo helping Deng Rui make dumplings. “Good morning, my big baby and little baby. Are we eating dumplings for lunch today?”
“Good morning, Auntie!”
“Auntie, the sun is shining on your butt!”
Zhan Zhan and Momo greeted her happily.
“It didn’t shine on me,” Jiang Yuan raised an eyebrow. “I was covered by a quilt.”
Deng Rui said to her, “Are you hungry? I’ll steam a basket of dumplings for you first.”
After saying that, she picked up a basket of dumplings and walked into the kitchen.
Today’s dumplings were taro and pork filling. Jiang Yuan ate while thinking about where to take them in the afternoon.
The phone on the side suddenly rang.
Jiang Yuan glanced at the caller ID; it was an unfamiliar number.
She answered the phone, and a deep, elegant male voice came from the earpiece.
“Hello, is this Jiang Yuan?”
“Who is this?” Jiang Yuan asked doubtfully.
“My name is Meng Yunting.” Meng Yunting seemed a little nervous and, after a few seconds of silence, continued, “I’m very sorry to call you out of the blue.”
Jiang Yuan was not unfamiliar with this name and said lightly, “Is there something you need?”
“I…” Meng Yunting suddenly didn’t know how to answer. “Can… can we meet?”
Jiang Yuan remained emotionless. “I don’t think it’s necessary.”
Meng Yunting was silent for another moment before continuing, “Okay, then I won’t bother you for now. I’ll ask again another day.”
Jiang Yuan didn’t say anything and directly hung up the phone.
Deng Rui felt her attitude was a bit strange, and after some hesitation, she asked, “What’s wrong?”
“It was a call from the Meng family,” Jiang Yuan didn’t hide it. “He said he was Meng Yunting and wanted to meet me.”
“Then why don’t you go meet him?” Deng Rui asked, and before Jiang Yuan could answer, she added, “If you’re worried about how we feel, you can rest assured. We respect your decision. Your father and I have thought it through, and it’s not necessarily a bad thing, because then more people can dote on you.”
Dote on her?
Jiang Yuan didn’t think so.
But Deng Rui’s words warmed her heart.
She curved her lips and said with a smile, “I don’t need anyone else’s doting. I only want my Rui and Da Shan.”
“What are you talking about?” Deng Rui pretended to scold her, but in her heart, she was terribly nervous.
She said she respected Jiang Yuan’s decision, but if she really went to meet the Meng family, she might feel like her soul had left her body.
Although Zhan Zhan and Momo didn’t know what their grandmother and aunt were talking about, hearing their aunt’s words, the two little ones couldn’t help but chime in.
“Auntie, don’t you want Momo and me?”
“Auntie, my sister and I will also dote on you.”
The smile on Jiang Yuan’s lips reached her eyes, and her tone was leisurely, “Of course I do. You are my little stinkers.”
“Momo isn’t stinky,” Momo sniffed her clothes and then her brother beside her. “Brother isn’t stinky either.”
Jiang Yuan was amused by her actions. “I misspoke. You are my fragrant babies.”
In the Western restaurant, the crystal chandelier poured down a hazy light, soft music echoed in their ears, and a rich floral fragrance wafted through the air. The flames on the gilded candle holders flickered.
While Jiang Yuan was thinking about where to take the children in the afternoon, she suddenly received a call from Wei Fangfei, who invited her to dinner.
Jiang Yuan thought something had happened at the zoo and agreed.
Wei Fangfei had booked a booth, and when Jiang Yuan arrived, two elegant and graceful figures were already seated there.
“Director Wei,” Jiang Yuan said with a smile as she approached the booth. “Sorry, I’m late.”
“You’re not late,” Wei Fangfei, wearing a red dress, stood up and affectionately held her hand, a gentle smile appearing between her brows. “I’m just happy you could come.”
Jiang Yuan raised an eyebrow slightly. “Is there something at the zoo that you need my help with?”
“No, no,” Wei Fangfei quickly denied it and explained, “I just wanted to invite you out for a meal and introduce you to my good sisters.”
Hearing this, Jiang Yuan smiled and said, “I was just kidding.”
“That’s good,” Wei Fangfei breathed a sigh of relief and turned to Meng Zhiwei. “Weiwei, let me introduce you. This is Yuan Yuan.”
Jiang Yuan looked in that direction, and the smile on her lips slowly faded.
She refused to meet Meng Yunting today but accidentally met this person.
Meng Zhiwei stared at Jiang Yuan, her fingers nervously curling, her lips pursed, and her willow-like eyebrows furrowed.
“Yuan Yuan, this is Zhiwei. You can call her Sister Weiwei,” Wei Fangfei said to Jiang Yuan with a smile.
Jiang Yuan slightly raised an eyebrow imperceptibly and said with a half-smile, “Hello, Sister Weiwei.”
Wei Fangfei looked at Meng Zhiwei expectantly but saw that her expression was a bit off. “Weiwei, what’s wrong? Yuan Yuan is greeting you.”
Meng Zhiwei lowered her eyes, took a deep breath, and adjusted her emotions.
She stood up and extended her hand to Jiang Yuan. “Hello, I’ve often heard Fangfei mention you, and I’m finally honored to meet you today.”
“Does Director Wei often mention me?” Jiang Yuan briefly held her fingertips, then quickly withdrew her hand, glancing sideways at the woman beside her.
“Oh, stop calling me Director Wei,” Wei Fangfei pulled her down to sit and said coquettishly, “Just call me Sister Fangfei from now on.”
“Okay,” Jiang Yuan nodded. “Sister Fangfei, your name is so beautiful, I should call you that often.”
Wei Fangfei was very pleased. “Weiwei, listen. My sister is beautiful and her words are sweet.”
Meng Zhiwei forced a smile. “Yes.”
Her gaze quietly fell on Jiang Yuan’s face, and the more she looked, the more she felt this face resembled her mother’s.
Deep inside, the guilt that had been buried for twenty-four years surged like a tidal wave.
Meng Zhiwei subconsciously bit her lower lip.
“Weiwei?” Wei Fangfei noticed her state seemed a little off and asked with concern, “You look a bit pale. Are you feeling unwell?”
