Chapter 109: Tier 2 Zombie
“At most there were five people, but by the time they arrived at the Logistics Center to set up camp, only four were left. Then, one of them mutated for some unknown reason, leading to this tragedy…”
Listening to Professor Ma’s account, Su Huan and the others finally understood what had happened at the Logistics Center.
The situation wasn’t complicated. An evolver in the Convoy mutated, causing the infection to spread on a large scale. Professor Ma happened to be on duty at the Digital Center with his students, so they avoided it and had been surviving on the food stored inside until now.
Su Huan felt regret in his heart.
Over eight hundred high-quality talents, and now only a dozen or so remained.
What surprised him, however, was that Professor Ma was actually an expert in Electronics—exactly what he needed, like a pillow sent when drowsy.
An unintentional act bore fruitful results.
“What expert? Even now, I can’t fix a single Communication Device…”
After talking for a while and seeing that they weren’t vicious criminals, Professor Ma regained some of his talkative demeanor and even mocked himself.
“But my students are very good. If you take them out, they’d be more useful than me.”
“I’ll take them out, but not now,” Su Huan said calmly.
Professor Ma knew he had more to say and perked up to look at him.
“We came to the Logistics Center to find Exoskeletons, Robots, and other high-tech products. We’ll only leave once we have them.”
Su Huan told him the truth.
Professor Ma’s face showed sudden realization. “I see. Exoskeleton technology is quite mature now, but limited by Energy and Material, civilian versions are all targeted modular designs. Thinking about it, the Logistics Center is indeed the only place that would concentrate a large number of Exoskeletons.”
“Where are the top-tier ones?”
“The most top-tier batch should be with the troops. I’ve heard they’ve already developed full Package Exoskeletons, but with the current situation… sigh…”
Listening to Professor Ma’s description, Su Huan pondered, but didn’t take it to heart. In his previous life, he’d also heard about Exoskeletons, but they were just battlefield support—nothing special.
Evolution was the main theme of this world.
“Those Exoskeletons are in that Equipment Bay you mentioned, right?”
“Yes, there are also a large number of Drones, Robots, and other Equipment inside. But to get there, you have to go deep into the Hall you just passed through, to the left-hand side from where you entered—almost crossing the entire Hall.”
Xiao Zhao supplemented from the side, his voice clear—it was the male voice from the earlier Broadcast.
Su Huan gave him an extra glance. If time permitted, he’d love to exchange song-picking tips with him. Those two lines earlier had moved even him, let alone the Zombies.
“You know the terrain inside here well?”
“I’ve been watching the Surveillance Cameras this whole time. I know everywhere within Surveillance Camera range.”
Su Huan nodded. “Then you come with us. Yu Jing, you and Zhang Kai stay here. Everyone else, prepare to set out with me.”
At that moment, a shrill voice came from the corner of the wall. “There are over eight hundred Zombies in there, plus the original population of the Logistics Center and those that gathered—over a thousand in total. Instead of running away now, you’re going deeper in? Your brain must be sick!”
Everyone was stunned and looked toward the sound. They saw an extremely skinny Young Man curled up in the corner of the wall, greasy curly hair tied back, face buried in his knees, expression unseen.
Professor Ma’s complexion changed, and he quickly smiled obsequiously. “The child was traumatized—don’t blame him. Li Hong, if you can stay, stay; if not, get out. Being Sarcastic and mocking this and that—who taught you that bad habit?! Apologize to them right now!”
Seeing that someone was finally willing to Rescue them, the students saw a way out, but this kid had lost his head and mocked them.
This was cutting off everyone’s path to survival!
The refined Professor Ma was so angered by him that he lost his composure, nearly pointing at his nose and scolding him for having no upbringing.
The surrounding students glared angrily at the man.
He Jie, however, looked at Li Hong with keen interest, circling him a few times.
He silently sentenced him to death in his mind.
Guessing at which point Su Huan would take him out.
Old San and his two brothers behind him sneered repeatedly. As soon as Su Huan gave the word, they’d show this arrogant kid what they were capable of.
After giving the man an extra glance, Su Huan lost interest. No General Energy Fluctuation—he wasn’t an evolver.
Just a Young Man with a broken mentality. He’d seen plenty like him in his previous life.
Not worth wasting time on.
“Let’s go.”
Taking Xiao Zhao with them, everyone exited the passage again, retracing their steps toward the Storage Area.
Inside the Digital Center, everyone’s gazes instinctively fell on the beautiful Woman left behind.
Professor Ma probed, “Just tell us if there’s anything we need to cooperate on.”
After scanning the Monitoring Screens for a moment, Yu Jing asked, “Can you find the positions of those four Mutated Zombie evolvers?”
Professor Ma quickly switched the Monitoring Screens. “No problem. They’re mostly in… wait, it seems like only two?”
Everyone’s backs instantly chilled as they stared intently at the many Screens before them.
“Found it. One ran outside.”
“What about the other?”
“It seems like… it ran into them.”
…
Su Huan had considered that this trip might not go smoothly, but he hadn’t expected it to be this unlucky.
Their return to the storage warehouse segment had no issues.
The Zombies lured away below hadn’t returned yet, but when everyone jumped onto the Platform, Su Huan instinctively glanced down and locked eyes with a two-meter-tall Butcher wielding a Bone Whip in its left hand and a Bone Blade in its right.
This Butcher was even larger than the one Gao Zhe mutated into. Its head was hidden in its Chest Cavity, black Corpse Armor extending from its abdomen to its Shoulders, like the shoulder guards on a General’s armor.
Standing there, it exuded a ferocious aura, burly like a demon god.
As these thoughts flashed through Su Huan’s mind, the Butcher slightly bent its knees.
The next moment, the cement ground under its feet instantly cracked.
Its entire body shot up like a Cannonball toward the over-six-meter-high Platform.
“Corpse Armor?!”
“How can there be a Tier 2 Zombie in this damned place!”
He Jie cursed violently while hoisting his Anti-aircraft Machine Gun, aiming straight ahead.
“Pa—boom!”
A Bone Whip wrapped around the railing surrounding the Platform, and a massive, Mecha-like Butcher jumped up.
With Su Huan as the origin, violent electric currents spread like a spider web along the metal plates underfoot, wrapping around it the instant it landed. The Butcher’s Figure clearly paused.
Before Su Huan could remind him, He Jie gritted his teeth and pulled the Trigger.
The 12.7mm Ammunition Belt was consumed madly, feeding into the Machine Gun from his neck, Bullet Casings clattering and rolling off the Platform, but the Anti-aircraft Machine Gun in the Man’s hands didn’t tremble at all.
All Bullets landed precisely on the Butcher without waste.
Amid the cold blue electricity, the Butcher forcibly twisted its body, raising the Bone Blade in its hand to block its Chest area as the Bone Whip in its other hand lashed toward Su Huan.
A shrill sound tore through the air.
Su Huan’s gaze sharpened.
