Chapter 150: This Jinx
Such a dangerous job naturally couldn’t be left to Old San alone.
Su Huan granted Jiang Rong and Lu Xiao’s squad ammunition usage permissions, otherwise they couldn’t suppress that group of frenzied Mutated Beasts at all.
The train occasionally transmitted a massive jolt.
But it was no longer a problem.
Although Mutated Beasts had strong physical bodies, they wouldn’t destroy the railway track or use tools; facing a train weighing several thousand tons, they could only use the most headstrong method to ram it.
What’s more, the fleeing Steel Council was now sharing the firepower.
Su Huan returned to his room and paused at the doorway.
Pushing the door open and entering, he saw a figure standing there, wearing a pair of dark work pants with the pant legs neatly tucked into high-top combat boots, wrapping her thighs to accentuate their fullness; on her body was a tactical vest, with an elastic bandage wrapped around her ribs, securing a thick shoulder pad on her shoulder.
Although the outfit looked very neat, the rounded contours at her shoulder, collarbone, and earlobe revealed it was Yu Yue.
The little maid’s eyelids were lowered at this moment, her lower lip bitten bloodless.
Su Huan approached closer, his fingertip brushing over it, rescuing the bitten lip; the blood-filled lip became even more rosy.
He chuckled lightly, “Has the wish-granting little elf come?”
Yu Yue raised her damp eyes, the fear inside nearly overflowing.
She could hear the faint sound in Su Huan’s body, like a snow mountain collapsing, with roars of wind and waves.
The originally steady and harmonious sounds and rhythms were disrupted, with new sounds and changes every moment, but she didn’t know what those changes meant; she just instinctively felt that Su Huan’s condition was absolutely not as calm as it appeared.
“Su Huan, your body…”
Su Huan was just about to speak when he suddenly felt his nose tip itch, and he naturally pulled the woman into his arms, his head passing over her shoulder.
A drop of liquid fell from his nose tip.
It landed on Yu Yue’s clothes, bright red and warm.
Su Huan casually covered it with his hand, then pinched the woman’s lower back, like sinking into soft down bedding.
“Tomorrow morning I want to eat white porridge, salted duck egg, soy milk; the soy milk shouldn’t have any dregs, add sugar, no sugar in the white porridge, and the salted duck egg should be oily; got it?”
Yu Yue hesitated to speak but obediently nodded.
“I’ll prepare it for you now, but your body…”
Su Huan grinned and rubbed the woman’s waist and hip, then pushed her out the door.
Closing the room door, he lowered his head and rubbed the stickiness on his hand; a red glow emerged, and the faint bloody smell dissipated.
Time was running out; first, deal with the old boss.
Before he could rest for a bit, He Jie knocked on his room door.
……
At the edge of Changli County, scrap recycling station.
Two people crawled out from the garbage heap.
The young collector said with lingering fear, “Fucking insane, the Steel Council is done for; if they draw out all the advanced zombies from the high-temperature zone, not only the Steel Council, but all forces positioned in the acid rain area will suffer; bringing this intel back is a huge merit for us.”
The Ring Man said in a low voice, “Don’t worry about that; while the big battle hasn’t ended, hurry and slip away; zombies don’t care about our identities.”
“Not bad, we’ve already run out of the battlefield center; earlier I observed that there are the fewest zombies to the north.”
The two muttered a couple times, quickly erased their traces, and ran on foot toward the outskirts of Changli County.
They were precisely the collectors on the armored train; originally planning to hide until the battle ended, but unexpectedly the Steel Council forcibly stopped the armored train; relying on their excellent concealment abilities, the two escaped in the chaos all the way to the edge area.
Earlier, they hid in the scrap recycling station to avoid a Tier 2 Mutated Beast.
The Ring Man’s steps suddenly paused, his brows furrowing tightly, “Wait, this direction won’t work; there are zombies, change!”
The two rushed toward a side alley.
“This way won’t work either!”
“Change!”
“No good, the road is blocked; go upstairs!”
“Damn it, there’s a Night Demon upstairs!”
“Don’t show your head; there’s a Tier 1 mutated vulture overhead!”
“Change!”
“Wait, the vulture has been drawn away.”
The Ring Man suddenly said.
The two stood on the third floor of the shop building, looking out the window at the pitch-black night sky.
Although there were occasional wing-flapping sounds, it wasn’t much of a threat to two Tier 1 Evolvers.
An attack helicopter flew up, its floodlight illuminating the surroundings snow white; two anti-aircraft machine guns roared, shooting down the gathered avian Mutated Beasts.
The person crawled out the window and climbed upward along something like decorative strips on the wall, glancing cautiously backward while climbing.
Suddenly, the Ring Man saw the glass in front of him flash, reflecting a deep blue light.
His heart skipped a beat.
Climbing to the rooftop and looking back, the helicopter was smoking and heading straight toward them.
The two exchanged a glance, wanting to cry but without tears.
“This jinx!”
“Boom——”
The helicopter smashed into a corner of the building but also snapped its rotor; like a dragonfly that lost its wings, it plummeted straight to the ground, erupting in a massive fireball.
Countless scarlet gazes fixed on the direction of the firelight in the darkness.
In an instant, corpse roars thundered like lightning.
Looking up, they surprisingly saw a staggering figure rushing toward them; after just a few steps, it collapsed on the ground.
The two were stunned for a moment; although they didn’t want to deal with it, they couldn’t resist their curiosity.
They went over to flip the person, then saw a young face.
The Ring Man turned the ring on his hand, astonished, “It’s Executive Director Li Wangchuan of the Steel Council’s nephew; the data shows he’s a collector, but he has never met the advancement conditions; deal with him or not?”
The young collector painfully scratched his hair; if it were a small fry, he would’ve left directly.
But Li Tao’s identity was quite sensitive; the Steel Council’s downfall just meant loss of competitiveness, not that their resources would vanish; Deep Blue Data would also covet the resources left by the heavy industry group; if they brought this key figure back, the two could at least rise three levels.
No need to toil as undercover agents in the short term.
Gritting his teeth, “Give him a sedative and carry him out; while the explosion draws attention, we’ll hurry in the opposite direction.”
“Got it!”
The two briefly checked Li Tao’s injuries, confirmed he wouldn’t die, and quickly withdrew.
But they couldn’t run northeast anymore; too many zombies were drawn there by the helicopter explosion, so they had to detour toward the county center.
Carrying Li Tao, the two were chased by various zombies and Mutated Beasts along the way, fleeing in panic.
The Ring Man carrying Li Tao said while jogging, “Did you hear any sound?”
“My ability is all in concealing aura; my senses aren’t as sharp as you collectors… wait, are you talking about the vibration?”
The young collector stopped in his tracks.
The Ring Man nodded, “Yeah, I feel a vibrating sensation underfoot, tingling; you feel it too?”
The young man showed a bitter smile.
A railway track had at some point crossed the street ahead; now the two tracks vibrated slightly, causing the entire ground to rumble.
Two beams of light shone from the extreme distance.
The train’s distinctive whistle sound pierced through clouds and barriers, stabbing into the two men’s eardrums.
