Chapter 151: Boarded The Wrong Train, Got The Right Job
The furious corpse roars came from all directions.
Several Tier 1 Night Demons were rapidly climbing on the abandoned vehicle, stomping the tin roof with thumping sounds.
“Damn! Take another road!”
The Ring Man had just turned his head when he heard a “boom” of a massive explosion.
Behind them, a four-story old commercial-residential building was actually crushed by the zombie horde stacked like human pyramids, the entire building collapsing like building blocks.
However, thanks to the long-term erosion by acid rain, the entire building had been infiltrated by rainwater, so no dust was kicked up.
Zombies spilled out like sand dumped from a truck, directly blocking the upcoming street completely. Several clumsy Butchers rolled in the zombie horde, their scarlet eyes already locked on the two.
The two of them were suddenly trapped at this railway track road intersection, with no way in or out.
They could only watch helplessly as the train drew closer and closer.
Sweat rolled down the Ring Man’s forehead, his gaze falling on the other, although he didn’t speak, the meaning of “hurry up and come up with a plan” was obvious.
The other was the professional when it came to escaping.
The young Collector’s line of sight swept through the darkness, everything in view filled with zombies and mutated beasts, even several rat as big as wolf dogs crawling out from the manhole covers!
He gritted his teeth and said, “Let’s go, back to the train!”
……
Li Tao felt someone talking around him, but he couldn’t hear anything clearly. A strong drowsiness pulled him down again, like he had been drugged.
The memories before passing out slowly surfaced in his mind.
He had taken Li Father on the attack helicopter to escape. As he expected, it indeed drew firepower.
He was shot down by Su Huan with one shot.
Li Father was shot into two pieces right in front of him, but there was no time for grief or anything; the helicopter lost control and began to crash.
He thought he would die on the spot, but unexpectedly, he was flung out during the impact.
His memory stopped there.
‘I don’t know if Uncle made it out.’
Upon coming to his senses, Li Tao’s first reaction was not grief over his father, but worry for Li Wangchuan’s safety.
Su Huan had an electromagnetic sniper rifle; whoever got on the helicopter would die.
So he planned to take the helicopter to draw attention, while Li Wangchuan could only escape by vehicle. Although there were many zombies on the ground, Li Wangchuan had quite a few Evolver experts around him, so there was still a good chance of survival.
The only surprise was his father showing up midway.
His own dad wasn’t capable himself, but he controlled many resources of the Li Family and always wanted to do something.
If he escaped alive, he would inevitably split with Uncle.
Li Tao’s head got hot and he decided to take his dad up to the sky together, at least he’d have company on the way.
In the end, he survived by a fluke, but Dad was gone.
He let out a wistful sigh, and the voices by his ear became clearer.
Li Tao didn’t rashly open his eyes, but quietly listened.
He heard a somewhat familiar voice say, “I don’t know what dog shit luck they had, actually capturing Li Tao. Even more outrageous, they weren’t torn apart by the zombie tide and became Evolvers. I saw them and brought them up.”
This voice… was He Jie.
Various subtle background sounds flooded into his ears, especially the rhythmic clanging, which immediately let Li Tao understand his situation.
He had actually ended up on the armored train!
Hadn’t he become a captive?!
“Is that so?”
Su Huan looked at these two Deep Blue Data Collectors with a half-smile.
He had been thinking about how to use these two earlier, but forgot later due to the intense fighting. He hadn’t expected them to accomplish something big for him on their own.
Directly capturing the key commander of the opponent in this battle!
What is talent? This is damn talent!
Although the acting was clumsy, the courage was commendable.
The two nodded repeatedly.
The slightly younger one on the left said awkwardly, “That’s correct, but there might be a little inside story…”
Su Huan’s brows relaxed, his face showing sudden realization. “Capturing the opponent’s commander alive, reward five exoskeletons, matching light firearms, and three thousand points. Rest assured, everyone on the entire train knows the Train Conductor keeps his word and follows through.”
The young man was stunned for a moment, then quickly said euphemistically, “No need for the reward, we’re not doing it for the reward.”
“Courageous and strategic, and modest too. What’s your name?”
Su Huan showed appreciation on his face and interrupted him.
The young man observed Su Huan’s expression and hesitated, “Tong Zizhan, the ‘zhan’ from far-sighted. My partner is Gao Yuan, you can call him Old Gao.”
The Ring Man beside him nervously twisted the ring on his hand.
Su Huan found it amusing to listen. The young one slick, the old one green, the two paired together were quite interesting.
Afraid they might slip up, he didn’t continue asking, but turned his gaze to Li Tao in the middle.
At this time, Li Tao was tied to a stretcher bed, propped upright in Carriage 1, which was Su Huan’s own room.
“You’ve listened long enough, time to wake up, Secretary Li.”
Li Tao on the stretcher slowly opened his eyes. As he guessed, he had fallen into the armored train. The treatment was better than imagined; at least no dark cell or torture tools, possibly due to lack of space on the train.
Carriage length 24m, width 3.1, carriage thickness off, signs of modification, expanded outward a bit.
Internal height normal, lighting layout normal, wiring obviously modified, surveillance or network communication…
Four people in the room. The two on the sides he hadn’t seen before. From their expressions, they shouldn’t be armored train members. Strong physiques, but no training marks, should be Evolvers.
He was probably brought here by these two.
Almost the moment he opened his eyes, various data flooded into his mind reflexively, even without his conscious analysis, already presented in his mind.
Front…
Li Tao’s line of sight evenly swept over the two opposite faces, finally landing on Su Huan on the sofa, but in his heart, he was chanting another name.
‘Lin Jin!’
Although well disguised, this small action still fell into Su Huan’s eyes.
Li Tao spent almost the same time on him and Lin Jin, which was very telling.
If it was someone he didn’t know, he would subconsciously ignore Lin Jin beside him.
Don’t say anything about observing more.
With an Evolver’s information processing ability, a peripheral glance was enough.
Lin Jin was just a small fry in the Steel Council. Why did Li Tao know him?
He had deliberately called Lin Jin here, just to test him.
Unexpectedly, it really blew up. This gave a great start to the pleasant exchange to follow.
Su Huan showed a friendly smile like reuniting with an old friend. “Didn’t expect to meet so soon. Anything you want to say to me?”
Li Tao quietly looked at Su Huan, but inwardly turbulent. It hadn’t been many days since their last meeting; they had joyfully screwed each other over back then, and now meeting again, he had become a prisoner.
“I’m just a nobody. Capturing me is useless to the Train Conductor. But the Train Conductor should worry about himself. So recklessly sabotaging the company’s plan, when the company…”
Gao Yuan beside him interrupted, “Li Tao, nephew of Executive Director Li Wangchuan. In the Steel Council, he’s one of the few with the highest rights under the Board of Directors, even a step above Zhong Cheng and the others.”
Li Tao was exposed, but showed no shame on his face. Though somewhat surprised, these were all open intelligence, not a sore spot.
“It’s just relying on some connections with my uncle. Without my uncle, I have no rights.”
“Oh, really?” Su Huan smiled and looked at Tong Zizhan beside him.
The latter sneered, “He himself is a senior manager in the Steel Council, originally the manager responsible for the evolution research direction, later transferred to Steel Council General Manager. Not necessarily managing all affairs, but definitely everything that passes through his hands.”
Gao Yuan beside him added, “From my observation, he has currently advanced to Tier 1 Profession. But Collectors are discreet without using abilities, hard to detect.”
Listening to the two reveal all his background bit by bit, Li Tao’s heart turned ice-cold.
Who the hell were these two?
His promotion to General Manager was recent, and crucially, it was a secret transfer.
Just borrowing his uncle’s authority to act, no formal appointment. Only a very few on the Board of Directors knew.
Could there be an undercover agent from the armored train on the Board of Directors?
Then wouldn’t every move he and his uncle made be under his surveillance?
Li Tao’s heart sank deeper.
Su Huan’s smile grew wider on his face. He clapped and praised, “One far-sighted, one visionary. You two are great. From now on, you’re the third squad of the armored train. Carriage 19 is your independent carriage. Corresponding rewards will arrive tomorrow morning. You can go now.”
The two were dumbfounded on the spot upon hearing this.
They did want to capture Li Tao to get promoted, but not in your armored train!
Tong Zizhan still wanted to explain, “Train Conductor, I am…”
The Train Conductor waved his hand, “I know it wasn’t easy to gather this info. Go rest.”
Seeing the cold intent gradually seeping into Su Huan’s eyes, the two lost their courage to expose themselves and slunk out of the carriage gray-faced.
Back in the rear carriage, the two exchanged a glance, wanting to cry but without tears.
Gao Yuan mouthed to him, “What the hell is this?”
Tong Zizhan was also numb. It was his first time encountering this. Being an undercover was one thing, but slacking off and actually achieving results?
He had diligently worked at Deep Blue Data for years without such a big merit. Where could he reason this out?
And there was another issue to consider.
If they continued working on the armored train, what if their position kept rising?
Would they go back to the company?
“Let’s keep doing it for now, find a chance to talk privately with the Train Conductor.”
……
After the two left, Su Huan had Lin Jin close the door properly.
Then he leaned forward, crossed his ten fingers to prop his chin, narrowed his eyes and asked, “What I’m more curious about is, what does dual domain represent?”
Li Tao was stunned, looked up at Su Huan, data streams flashing wildly in his eyes.
After a pause, he suddenly chuckled coldly to himself.
Su Huan didn’t mind. This question obviously exposed that he didn’t have a big force behind him.
But that didn’t matter. He just wanted an answer.
Lin Jin, who was closing the door, paused at the question, even lightening his hand movements.
He turned around, eyes dead fixed on Li Tao.
He wasn’t stupid. Since Su Huan asked specifically, there was definitely something fishy!
Involving his sister, he couldn’t help but be cautious.
Li Tao’s cold laugh was like venting or self-mockery, and didn’t last long.
He said something irrelevant, “Your body condition is off, Su Huan. You’re going to die!”
He said it very certainly, like he had determined Su Huan’s death date.
Lin Jin looked horrified, Su Huan remained unruffled.
For a moment, the three in the room had varied expressions.
