Chapter 149: He Can’t Do It
Zhou Wangshu spat out the pastry.
Su Yaoguang saw him choking until his face was red and his neck was thick, so she took off the water bag she carried with her and let him drink some water.
“This pastry doesn’t taste good; it’s choking.” Zhou Wangshu said, “Don’t eat it; let others eat it.”
Su Yaoguang slapped away Zhou Wangshu’s restless hand, put away the pastry, and said: “Who told you to eat so fast? If not you, then who?”
Seeing Su Yaoguang put it away so carefully, Zhou Wangshu said in a strange tone: “That’s true. No matter how bad-tasting the pastry is, as long as the person who gave it is right, that pastry is perfect in every way.”
Su Yaoguang touched his forehead: “You’re not sick; why are you talking all this nonsense? I can’t understand a single sentence.”
“Didn’t you say before that we are fake husband and wife? If I want to leave, I can leave anytime. If I have someone I like, you will also let me go free and give me a divorce letter, right?”
Su Yaoguang nodded: “Yes, what’s wrong?”
“What do you think of Boss Jiang?” Zhou Wangshu looked into her eyes.
Su Yaoguang said: “He is enthusiastic, polite to people, kind-hearted; he can be considered a gentleman among merchants!”
“That’s quite a high evaluation.” Zhou Wangshu muttered.
“Otherwise?” Su Yaoguang glared at him. “Although we prepared a lot of grain and supplies in advance, it’s still a drop in the bucket. If he didn’t frequently send things up the mountain, we would have run out of grain long ago.”
“He does all this to leave a good impression at the government office, so that their shop will receive commendation from the government office and also get tax exemption benefits.”
Zhou Wangshu continued: “I’m telling you, even if you want to find a suitable young man, this person won’t do. His gentlemanly demeanor is all superficial; actually, his relationship with his eldest sister-in-law is unclear.”
“Impossible!” Su Yaoguang was surprised. “Boss Jiang is not that kind of person.”
Zhou Wangshu snorted coldly: “Oh yes, he’s not that kind of person; it’s me who made it up to slander him.”
As he spoke, he snatched the pastry he had just bought from her hand.
“You have the pastry sent by Boss Jiang; I won’t eat this pastry that costs one hundred copper coins a package. After all, it’s not as fragrant as theirs.”
Su Yaoguang: “……Did this person take the wrong medicine?”
After Zhou Wangshu left, Zhang Pandi came over: “Wangshu went to so much trouble to buy pastry for you, but you keep mentioning Boss Jiang left and right, without even tasting the one he bought. How could he not be angry? He’s jealous!”
Su Yaoguang suddenly realized: “So that’s it.”
He really has the temperament of a child; he even gets jealous of this.
A little monk ran over and said to Su Yaoguang: “Benefactor Su, you were right; that Benefactor Jiang really wanted to bathe in the mountain spring pool. If we weren’t guarding there, that one mouthful of drinking spring water would have been ruined by her.”
“Wu Jie, there aren’t many patients recently; we can handle it. Your main task is to keep an eye on those two people and not let them disturb the temple’s tranquility. Oh, and that Wen Shi too.”
Wen Shi did not go down the mountain; she stayed behind on the pretext of being ill. Now that Jiang Yihuan has made such a fool of herself, Xiao Yanci definitely can’t stand the smell on Jiang Yihuan, so Wen Shi has another opportunity to show her face.
“Boss Su, that Wen Shi is really interesting; she actually boiled water for Jiang Yihuan to bathe in. Oh my, that attentiveness; she doesn’t hold a grudge at all for her drugging her. What do you think this woman is after?”
Su Yaoguang smiled: “With her being so magnanimous, Xiao Scholar must feel very guilty now, and think that she loves him so much. Even if he doesn’t love her, he has to consider her face, talk nicely to her, and not hurt the true heart of an infatuated woman.”
Aunt: “……”
Are scholars’ brains that sharp?
Even if she were given a few more brains, she couldn’t think of all this!
Sure enough, no wonder people can study; she even feels sleepy listening to storytellers.
“Yaoguang, something happened.” Jiang Jing ran over and said to Su Yaoguang.
“What happened?” Su Yaoguang asked.
“The few patients sent yesterday came from the neighboring city; their conditions are very serious. I isolated them separately, but the patients in the adjacent Zen Rooms all worsened.”
“I’ll go take a look.”
“Don’t go; I’m worried you’ll be affected by the condition too. Their conditions are different from ours here; I need to prescribe new prescriptions for them and test the drugs again.” Jiang Jing said.
“I’ll help you.” Su Yaoguang said. “You need someone to assist you; you can’t do it alone. How many people have worsened now?”
“Twelve were sent up the mountain yesterday, and twenty-seven in the adjacent Zen Room worsened, making thirty-nine in total.” Jiang Jing said. “The most urgent thing now is to move the other patients farther away; don’t let them get close to those two critically ill rooms.”
Su Yaoguang turned back to Zhang Zhaodi: “Mom, the others are entrusted to you. Jing’er and I will handle those two sickrooms.”
Zhang Zhaodi frowned: “Daughter, Mom is worried; how about Mom assists Jing’er instead? You don’t go.”
“I can recognize some medicinal herbs, which can better help Jing’er. Mom, don’t worry; Jing’er and I are both smart; nothing will happen.”
“I’ll go too.” Zhou Wangshu said. “Didn’t Jiang Jing say before that those who have been sick are not so easily infected again? I was so seriously ill before; my body must be more resistant than yours.”
Su Yaoguang nodded.
Jiang Jing made an order and had Zhou Wangshu go down the mountain first to procure medicinal herbs.
The current amount of medicinal herbs is obviously not enough.
Since the epidemic from the neighboring city is different from theirs, the treatment prescriptions are also different.
Jiang Jing listed a medicinal herbs order based on those patients’ reactions. Once these things are procured, she will test them one by one to see which prescription is most effective for the patients’ conditions.
While Zhou Wangshu was procuring the drugs, Su Yaoguang followed Jiang Jing into the critically ill patients’ room.
She had Zhang Zhaodi explain the reason; no one was allowed to step into this area.
Everyone knew the seriousness of the matter and didn’t dare disobey.
“Will Boss Su and Doctor Jiang be okay? Buddha, Bodhisattva, please bless these two kind-hearted people!”
“The officials in the neighboring city directly set fire to burn these patients; they wouldn’t treat them at all. They barely escaped to us, but ended up bringing this disaster to us.”
“If it were you, wouldn’t you want to live? Everyone wants to live; they want to live too—that’s unavoidable.”
Zhou Wangshu soon returned with the medicinal herbs. As soon as he arrived, he took the anti-epidemic medicine, covered his mouth and nose, and entered the critically ill area.
As soon as he stepped into that Zen room, a strong stench hit him; it was one that couldn’t be blocked even with mouth and nose covered.
“How are these people?”
“Their whole bodies are rotting.” Su Yaoguang said. “The situation is even more serious than we imagined. It can be said that now it’s truly a last-ditch effort. Because their conditions are extremely bad.”
“Yaoguang, government office people are here; they sent another twenty critically ill patients up the mountain.” Zhang Zhaodi said tremblingly from outside. “How to arrange this?”
“Mom, you and everyone clear out the nearby Zen Rooms; arrange the other patients as far away as possible. All the Zen Rooms around here will house the critically ill.” Su Yaoguang said.
