Chapter 213: It’s Done
An entire basket of grapes went into Su Yaoguang and Zhou Wangshu’s stomachs.
Zhou Wangshu finished calculating the last entry, summarizing the various situations in the account book for Su Yaoguang.
These were the account books for three consecutive months, with every entry very clear.
In addition to checking the account books for any false entries, they also needed to analyze whether business had improved or worsened over these months, whether regular customers were ordering more or less, whether there were new customers each month, and so on.
“Mm…” Su Yaoguang clutched her stomach.
Zhou Wangshu had just organized the account books and was preparing to call it a day when he saw Su Yaoguang’s face pale, and his expression turned panicked.
“What’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing.” Su Yaoguang clutched her stomach and forced a smile.
“Your face is paler than paper, and you say it’s nothing?” Zhou Wangshu said as he stood up and took her hand. “Come on, let’s have Jiang Jing take a look at you.”
“Jing’er isn’t in the city today; she went to the countryside to see a seriously ill patient.” Su Yaoguang said, “This is a normal situation; no need to worry.”
“Stomach pain is a normal situation?” Zhou Wangshu frowned, his eyes full of disbelief.
“Aiya…” Su Yaoguang blushed, “It really is normal; believe me!”
Zhou Wangshu was still a ‘child’; how could he know how tough it is to be a woman? Women have these little monthly days every month, and it passes after enduring a few days.
If it were another woman seeing her in such pain, she would probably have guessed why she was feeling so bad now and wouldn’t make a fuss like him.
Seeing her avoiding medical treatment, Zhou Wangshu directly picked her up.
“Put me down; I really am fine…”
“Don’t talk.”
“Wangshu, I really am fine…” Su Yaoguang shyly leaned close to his ear and whispered a few words. “It’s just this; all women have this situation. There’s no need to make a fuss. If you take me to the clinic, others will laugh at us.”
Zhou Wangshu was half-believing.
Su Yaoguang glared at him, her cheeks flushed: “Put me down quickly.”
“Then rest for a bit; don’t run around.” Zhou Wangshu set her down.
Su Yaoguang breathed a light sigh of relief.
She was now in the study room of the workshop, with a simple resting room on the inner side, convenient for her to rest here sometimes.
Su Yaoguang lay on the bed, and Zhou Wangshu poured her hot water, watching her drink it.
Zhou Wangshu stayed by the bedside for a while, and seeing her fall asleep, he returned to the outer side of the study room.
A muffled groan came from inside.
From the sound, Su Yaoguang must be in a lot of pain right now.
Zhou Wangshu strode in, and seeing cold sweat beading on her forehead, he no longer cared about anything else and immediately carried her out.
When Su Yaoguang woke up again, she found herself lying in the resting room of the clinic.
Jiang Jing wasn’t there, so he could only entrust her to another doctor for examination. Su Yaoguang was a celebrity; few in the entire county town didn’t know her. Seeing her ill, the doctor took it very seriously and then explained Su Yaoguang’s situation to Zhou Wangshu.
Su Yaoguang heard Zhou Wangshu discussing something with a stranger. At first, she didn’t hear clearly, but when she pricked up her ears and heard what they were saying, she wished she could crawl into a crack in the ground.
She closed her eyes and pretended to be dead.
Zhou Wangshu came in with the decocted medicine: “If you’re awake, get up and drink the medicine.”
“How did you know I was awake?” Su Yaoguang opened her eyes and said awkwardly.
“The breathing of someone asleep is different from someone awake.” Zhou Wangshu handed her the medicinal soup. “Drink it quickly; you’ll feel better after.”
Su Yaoguang took the bowl and gulped it down.
“I feel much better.”
“Doctor Wang gave you acupuncture, which has a pain-relieving effect. Doctor Wang said your pain is because you indulged in cold things. Women need to stay warm during these days and absolutely cannot eat ice. You just ate so many chilled grapes.”
Su Yaoguang: “…”
Seeing her embarrassed and guilty, Zhou Wangshu stopped mentioning the topic and quietly stayed by her side.
“When can I go back?”
“Wait until your complexion improves; I’ll have Doctor Wang take your pulse to confirm you won’t pass out from pain again before we go back. If you’re not obedient, I’ll tell Mother and Aunt and the others about this, so they know how you take care of your body.”
Su Yaoguang behaved herself.
If her mother found out about this, her ears would be nagged into calluses.
Su Yaoguang cooperated with Zhou Wangshu, as obedient as a cat.
When the two returned to Peach Blossom Workshop, they heard that Chun E had been waiting for a long time.
“Yaoguang, it’s done.” Chun E pulled her inside. “I threatened him harshly as you said, and he really behaved.”
“He agreed to your conditions?” Su Yaoguang asked.
“He did. He has three pieces of real estate outside, a hundred mu of farmland, and eight thousand taels of savings. To shut me up, he’s willing to put all those real estate, farmland, and savings under my name.”
“That woman agreed?”
“I have evidence of his misdeeds; if he doesn’t want to see the officials, he has to do as I say.”
“He’s only agreed now; he hasn’t done as you said yet. He agreed so readily; I’m afraid he’s plotting to kill you.”
The smile disappeared from Chun E’s face.
“You mean…”
“If he argued with you and then agreed afterward, that would show some sincerity. The problem now is he agreed too readily, which is suspicious. If it were you, would you willingly hand over the family business you worked hard for to someone else?”
“I’m his properly wedded wife; he’s willing to put these industries under a concubine’s name, so why not under mine? I didn’t say I wanted a divorce.”
“If he truly valued you, he would have put the industries under your name from the start. He’s willing to put them under a concubine’s name but not yours; that says it all. Do you still expect such a man to have a conscience?”
“He really wants to kill me?” Chun E lowered her eyes. “What should I do?”
“I hear Ming Ye Hall also takes assassination orders.”
“You mean have me…” Chun E was horrified.
“What are you thinking? I mean, if they take assassination orders, they should also take protection orders, right? If we leave the follow-up of this matter entirely to Ming Ye Hall, it might save a lot of trouble.”
“You’re right; I’ll listen to you.” Chun E had no ideas of her own now; she knew Su Yaoguang’s reasoning made sense, and listening to her was better than listening to that dog of a man.
Su Yaoguang called out to Zhou Wangshu, who pushed the door open and came in.
“Wangshu, help us contact Ming Ye Hall!”
“I already heard just now. Don’t worry; leave this matter to me. Dealing with those people isn’t safe for women; it’s better if I handle it.”
“Then thank you, little brother Wangshu.” Chun E leaned close to Su Yaoguang’s ear and said, “Having a man step forward does give more confidence and peace of mind.”
“Sister Chun E, I don’t like hearing you say that; I’m much stronger than an average man. Even if not ten to one, three to one should be no problem, right?”
“Yes, you one against three, plus your family Wangshu, doesn’t that give even more confidence?”
