Chapter 176: Battle
Father Song had been a soldier, but he hadn’t been to the battlefield. Although he had some experience now, it wasn’t much.
He could only treat these flying fierce beasts as airplanes.
Fortunately, his military experience was still useful; at least these weapons were useful.
The official had sponsored a lot of firearms for the Pet Beast Center. Normally, these weapons were jointly guarded by the Law Enforcement Officer and the Minister of the Security Department, but now, they had to be brought out.
“Dad! Something is coming from below the city wall too.”
Song Ranran shouted to Father Song.
This was Song Ranran’s first time commanding in battle independently, and it was such a major battle as defending the city.
Song Ranran was very nervous; Song Ranran had never been so nervous.
She had many team leaders under her, and so many people were waiting for her orders. How could Song Ranran not be nervous?
Song Ranran knew she couldn’t rely solely on Song Tiantian.
The situation at the South City Gate was definitely more brutal now.
Song Tiantian hadn’t come, so she must have been too busy. This time, she could only rely on herself.
In the darkness, fierce beasts were approaching, their blood-red eyes like glaring red lanterns. Even from a distance, Song Ranran could feel the violent aura emanating from the fierce beasts.
These fierce beasts were all in a state of madness; none of them could become Pet Beasts.
Song Ranran knew the Beast Tide had arrived.
The city wall trembled amidst the roars of the fierce beasts. Father Song’s Sky Giant Eagle perched atop the watchtower, its wings unleashing Wind Blades that cleaved three swooping Red-Eyed Ironbeak Crows in half, their scarlet blood splattering on the city wall.
Song Ranran’s newly contracted Golden Feather Giant Falcon flapped its wings vigorously, its sulfur-scented fire waves turning the charging pack of Rending Claw Bats into a sky full of fireballs.
“Switch to armor-piercing rounds!” Father Song’s roar was drowned out by the thunder of the heavy machine guns.
The grenade launcher shouldered by the Security Captain blasted an opening in the Beast Tide. The Ironclad Earth Dragon immediately poked its rock-spiked head out of a crack in the city wall, smashing the Mountain-Drilling Alligator Dragon attempting to burrow in, its shell cracking. Father Song’s Sky Giant Eagle suddenly flapped its wings and soared into the sky. Wind Blades from the clouds precisely pierced three Dragon-Scaled Horned Eagles, their scorched feathers mixed with bloody rain falling onto the fierce beasts outside the city wall, further inciting their ferocity.
Song Ranran’s Blazing Bear plunged from the city wall, its claws tearing open the throat of a Steel Armored Violent Bear. The moment foul beast blood splattered, the bone blade of a Six-Winged Ghost-Faced Owl struck the young girl’s nape—the tail whip of a Purple-Scaled Thunder Dragon, crackling with lightning, lashed out, forcefully snapping the fierce beast’s spine into three sections.
A pillar of lava-like light suddenly erupted from the city wall, soaring towards the fierce beasts below. Under Song Ranran’s command, the security guards operated flamethrowers, burning the Hundred-Footed Rock Lizards attempting to climb the wall until they curled up and exploded.
“Three o’clock direction!” Before Father Song’s shout faded, an armor-piercing round exploded in the chest of a giant Thunder-Winged Tiger-Faced Owl, creating a bloody hole. The Ironclad Earth Dragon roared and collapsed half of the broken wall. Father Song could only lift his heavy machine gun and spray bullets, pinning the subsequent rushing fierce beasts into meat skewers.
Song Ranran’s Golden Feather Giant Falcon’s wings ignited with crimson radiance, and the sky-burning flames forced the encircling beast horde back thirty zhang.
Father Song’s Thunderous Tiger’s body crackled with plasma. Wrapped in it, Father Song leaped off the city wall, his lightning domain instantly clearing all flying fierce beasts within a hundred-meter radius.
As the violent fierce beasts tore through the smoke and charged, all the heavy machine guns roared simultaneously.
However, the fur defense of the fierce beasts was too high. After a flash of lightning and sparks, the fierce beasts only sustained minor injuries. They were enraged and became even more ferocious.
In the beginning, Father Song and Song Ranran were handling it with ease, but as their spiritual power was consumed.
They gradually fell into a disadvantage.
Even their Pet Beasts were getting tired, but the fierce beasts were becoming more numerous.
Song Ranran began to panic, unsure of what to do, but she couldn’t retreat at this moment.
Father Song picked up the pager and began to call: “East Gate requests support, East Gate requests support, East Gate requests support.”
“West Gate requests support!”
“North Gate requests support!”
Many voices came from the pager, clearly indicating that the situation at the other gates was not good either.
They all needed support.
Song Ranran had actually learned a lot of combat knowledge before; she had also read many military books and studied many battle formations.
But the moment the Beast Tide began, Song Ranran felt she had no time to think about tactics. The battle started very quickly. Song Ranran watched her subordinates, who usually called her boss, die tragically before her eyes, without even a last word.
Song Ranran’s heart felt like a fire had been ignited. She couldn’t think too much; besides fighting, she could only fight.
Her instincts were faster than her brain; she just wanted to save her subordinates.
This was the Beast Tide, such a brutal Beast Tide.
“Ranran, you go down and rest first. Dad will hold the line here. I’ve been to the battlefield before.”
At this moment, driven by a father’s instinct, Father Song chose to protect Song Ranran.
After all, he was a soldier and couldn’t retreat, but Song Ranran was just an ordinary girl.
Song Ranran shook her head firmly after hearing Father Song’s words.
She couldn’t retreat, and she couldn’t be afraid. If she retreated, everyone behind the Pet Beast Center would be doomed.
“Dad, I can still fight! My employees, my subordinates are all still here, and none of them have retreated, so I can’t retreat either.”
Song Ranran remembered something Leng Qing had said during training: a leader must not retreat.
She was the leader, and she had to bear the responsibility she was supposed to bear.
If she retreated, all these security guards would retreat too; they would also become afraid and disheartened.
Song Ranran transferred her Blood Qi to her Pet Beasts, and she also passed on her determination to fight to the end to her Pet Beasts.
She had no regrets, no regrets about becoming a Beast Tamer, and no regrets about choosing to follow Song Tiantian to the Pet Beast Center.
Even if she died here, she would not regret it.
Her life before had been aimless, lived without dignity or purpose.
But now, she had a belief to uphold.
At least in her final moments, her life was blooming.
She had no regrets about this battle.
At least, because of Song Tiantian, her life had reached a height it had never reached before.
Song Ranran suddenly saw a giant beast pounce at Father Song. The heavy machine gun in Father Song’s hand was instantly shattered like a crumbling cake, and Father Song’s two Pet Beasts were entangled by other beasts.
“Dad!”
A woman wearing black silk pajamas and pajama pants descended from the sky, holding a cleaver. With one strike, she killed the giant beast that was attacking Father Song.
One strike, and then another.
One by one, the fierce beasts fell.
Song Ranran’s eyes widened with surprise: “Tiantian, you’re here.”
“You and Father are both here, how could I not come? Hell Ghost Vine stayed at the South Gate, Big White went to support the North Gate, and Illusion Grass went to support the West Gate. I’m here to support you!”
Song Tiantian said as she cut down the attacking fierce beasts.
Song Tiantian glanced at the exhausted crowd and shouted to them: “Pick up your swords, we can still fight them. Infuse spiritual power into your weapons; they are even more effective than firearms.”
