Chapter 167: I Am The Biggest!
Metis slightly calmed her turbulent mind and said firmly once more: “I will naturally gestate a very, very good child with Zeus, but that child will first and foremost be Zeus’s child.”
“He will only be loyal to his Great Father God, revere his Great Father God, and ultimately become his Father God’s most capable assistant.”
Immediately after, the corners of her lips curved into a cold arc, and she decisively launched a counterattack, retorting: “Could it be that the children born to you, Goddess, and Zeus will also become rulers of all living beings in the future?”
Her pair of golden divine eyes narrowed slightly, her pretty face once again blooming with a smile, but her words became even sharper: “Right, you are the All-knowing Goddess of Civilization and Memory. After the first union with the God King, you successfully gestated nine beautiful children that all the gods envy.”
“And the authority of these children is almost that of guides for all civilizations in the universe.”
“If you gestate new children in the future, they will surely be even more extraordinary. Presumably, they will become the supreme master of all those civilizations, right?”
Mnemosyne’s ceremonial smile also vanished in an instant. The two goddesses stared at each other for a moment, tacitly ceasing to argue over this terrifying topic.
After a long while, the Omniscient Goddess spoke again, her words now turning flat: “Incarnation of Wisdom, what exactly is the important matter that brings you to me today? Please speak directly.”
The Civilization Memory Goddess’s words had turned flat.
The Goddess of Wisdom looked earnestly at the Omniscient Goddess before her and said slowly: “Respected Memory Master, with your omniscience, could you truly not know the purpose of my visit?”
Mnemosyne said softly: “I have no intention of casually spying on the thoughts and privacy of any god.”
“Moreover, some things are better said face-to-face.”
Metis nodded gently, her waterfall-like shoulder-length purple hair swaying smoothly with her action, just like an endless lavender garden brushed by a gentle breeze.
She raised her gaze beyond the divine palace, toward the boundless pure sky. Helios, who had just been harshly rebuked by the God King, was now full of spirit, meticulously patrolling the world.
Metis spoke slowly, her voice ethereal as if drifting on the water’s surface. She said leisurely: “Respected Mnemosyne, as the Memory Master, you should be clearer than any god.”
“Zeus, our love, how dazzling and brilliant he is, and how deeply revered by all living beings in this universe.”
“Similarly, loved by all the goddesses.”
“He is the supreme master, King of the Gods, god among gods, the merciful and loving Great Father God.”
“He cannot control his own magnanimity, just as we cannot control being deeply attracted to him, willingly drowning in his sweet love.”
The Omniscient Goddess fully empathized upon hearing this. She nodded gently and listened quietly.
Many times, many words, if spoken out and shared with another goddess in the same situation, would lighten one’s heart considerably.
Metis’s voice echoed faintly in the divine palace: “To monopolize all beloved and beautiful things is the instinct of all living beings. And love and desire are the most fundamental source of spirituality.”
“Just like jealousy and envy, which are traits no goddess can truly erase forever.”
“But I am even less willing to see Zeus unhappy.”
“Because, as long as Zeus is unhappy, I will be unhappy.”
“Even if jealousy gnaws at my heart like venomous insects, even if the pain of loving without possession pierces my soul.”
“Zeus, my love, our love.”
The Goddess of Wisdom outlined an utterly bitter smile.
A sigh filled with poignant beauty slowly escaped her lips: “Love is inherently selfish. And to turn that love belonging solely to oneself into ‘our’ love—what a bitter taste that is.”
“But I savor it gladly.”
“Because Zeus is everything to me.”
“What Zeus loves, I love. I rejoice in what he rejoices, love what he loves. No matter the circumstances, or if no god understands, I will never abandon him, unto eternity.”
Mnemosyne looked at the Goddess of Wisdom with immensely complex eyes; the more affectionate the words, the more they contained boundless pain.
She knew Metis’s thoughts and could even understand this love of Metis’s that bordered on humility.
But if it were her, she could never achieve such tolerance, such magnanimity.
At most, she could only avoid actively paying attention to the other goddesses around Zeus and avoid overthinking.
Her gaze was extremely heavy and deep as she looked at Metis, her emotions constantly impacted by Metis’s passionate and direct words. At this moment, Metis’s love for Zeus was something even she admitted she could not match.
This Goddess of Wisdom had almost completely abandoned her “self,” fully transforming herself into Zeus’s thought and will.
Metis suddenly smiled faintly, her smile carrying an indescribable complexity, like the most exquisite yet most vulnerable glass.
She said gently: “Dear Mnemosyne, I am the only lover Zeus publicly acknowledged at the Grand Ceremony of the Gods. Even now, undoubtedly, I remain Zeus’s sole wife.”
Hearing this from Metis, Mnemosyne felt unwillingness in her heart but had no objection at all—this was indeed a fact.
Seeing Mnemosyne silent, Metis continued: “I do not wish to see Zeus unhappy, nor do I wish to cruelly mistreat the many goddesses, like me, who cannot extricate themselves from Zeus’s love.”
Metis suddenly stood up and proactively took hold of Mnemosyne’s hands; two pairs of equally perfect jade hands clasped together.
Her golden bright eyes looked with utmost sincerity into the Omniscient Goddess’s deep black eyes, saying softly: “I have already told Zeus myself that I will not stop him from having other wives.”
“Perhaps none of us can monopolize Zeus’s love, but I hope that the goddesses Zeus cherishes can also have the legitimate title of wife, rather than being aggrieved with nameless labels.”
“Dazzling and prominent goddesses should not be hidden in darkness.”
Even though Mnemosyne knew Metis’s thoughts, hearing these words firsthand still shocked her greatly.
She opened her mouth to speak but hesitated, doing so several times, before finally asking hesitantly in a soft voice: “Metis, I am shocked by your magnanimity and grateful for it, but why are you doing this?”
Upon hearing this question, Metis smiled radiantly. She turned her head toward the dazzling sunlight outside the divine palace and said gently: “Zeus is the most majestic God King, the most dazzling God King, the most flawless God King.”
“Whatever he does, he need not do it furtively. He should always be open and aboveboard.”
“Even if it is having multiple wives. Even if it is sharing his vast love.”
Mnemosyne quietly watched this moment’s Metis, her inner thoughts surging like turbulent waves, but in the end, she said nothing.
The divine palace fell into prolonged silence.
After a long time, Metis composed her emotions and said with a light laugh: “Dear Memory Master, although I am no longer an obstacle, whether Zeus personally announces who is his love still depends on your own abilities.”
“If in the end you still cannot get Zeus to publicly announce that you are his love, then no one can be blamed.”
The Goddess of Wisdom narrowed her bright eyes and said proudly: “And please remember, as well as any future goddesses, I, the Goddess of Wisdom Metis, am Zeus’s first wife, the eternal first wife!”
“I am the elder sister! Your future statuses are all bestowed by me and Zeus!”
Mnemosyne’s moved emotions vanished instantly without a trace. Gritting her teeth secretly, she had now fully understood Metis’s intention!
It was true that the Daughter of the Ocean had a tolerant and merciful heart, absolute love for Zeus, and even some pity for the other goddesses.
But her main objective was still to advance by retreating!
She also knew she could not stop Zeus from having other goddesses, so she proactively stepped back, exchanging it for deeper guilt and affection from Zeus!
And thereby successfully securing the unshakable position of “elder sister”!
The Goddess of Wisdom was truly profoundly scheming!
The Omniscient Goddess inwardly cursed several unprintable words, but on the surface, she smiled composedly, revealing once more her ceremonial gentle smile.
And in an exaggeratedly soft and whispery tone, she said: “Dear Metis, thank you for your broad magnanimity. I hope you and the Great Zeus will soon give birth to lovely children.”
Metis’s condescending smile vanished instantly, and she too inwardly cursed several unprintable words.
But in reality, the two goddesses had grown much closer.
She then ceased these pointless verbal sparring and turned to the other main matter of her visit today: “Respected Goddess of Memory, Zeus has united with my new younger sister Dione and given birth to a goddess.”
“Since she is now a goddess of a male god, she should not remain long in her parents’ home. I wish to go personally to the Ocean to bring her to live in Olympus, and I also hope you can have your lovely children accompany me to welcome her.”
The Goddess of Wisdom did not know Dione’s true background, but the Omniscient Goddess knew it all too well.
Regarding this, she only thought briefly before agreeing straightforwardly and decisively.
Though it meant losing a bit of face, it did not matter. Metis was the one sacrificing the most—this was returning the favor for Metis’s willingness to share Zeus.
Metis was even surprised by the Omniscient Goddess’s forthright attitude.
In principle, as the principal wife, her asking Mnemosyne’s children to join her under her command to welcome the Daughter of the Ocean to Olympus was no honorable matter for the Memory Master.
Even bluntly put, this was almost a public show of yielding.
