Nie Qiu’s face was covered by an oxygen mask, and clips from the electrocardiograph monitor were attached to her, preventing them from touching her, from holding her hand, from touching her face.
But seeing the gas she exhaled onto the oxygen mask, they knew she had come back to life.
Nie Aifang looked at Nie Qiu with a slight smile, just watching, as if she couldn’t get enough.
Li Kai was the same; he didn’t touch Nie Qiu, just watched her quietly, feeling as if his heart had traveled through hell and then arrived in heaven.
They didn’t speak, just watched, and when the time was up, the nurse ushered them all out.
A day passed like this, and Nie Qiu finally woke up in the Intensive Care Ward. The nurse recording the instruments beside Nie Qiu saw this and smiled, “How are you feeling?”
Nie Qiu nodded, finding it difficult to speak with the oxygen mask on.
The nurse said, “Wait a moment, I’ll get the doctor to examine you. If there are no problems, we’ll transfer you to a General Ward.”
Nie Qiu nodded again.
The nurse didn’t speak but walked out of the ICU. Seeing Nie Aifang and Li Kai, she smiled, “Your family member is awake. I’ll go get the doctor to examine her, and if there are no problems, she can be transferred to a General Ward.”
Nie Aifang stood up upon hearing this, repeatedly saying thank you. The nurse went to fetch the doctor and entered the ICU. Nie Aifang and the others crowded at the Doorway of the ICU, waiting for the doctor and nurse to push Nie Qiu out.
After the doctor’s examination, he instructed two nurses to push Nie Qiu to the General Ward. Nie Aifang, Nie Aiwen, Li Kai, and Peng Yu Yang, the four of them, closely followed the mobile hospital bed.
Nie Qiu turned her head to look at Nie Aifang, opening her mouth. Because she was quite weak and wearing an oxygen mask, her voice was unclear, but Nie Aifang understood her lip movements. She smiled, but tears began to stream down her face, and she shook her head at Nie Qiu repeatedly.
Because she saw Nie Qiu say, “Sorry.”
Sorry for what, she naturally knew, but in her current view, all of it was in the past. The most important thing was that her Daughter was still here, still by her side.
Li Kai saw this and gently held Nie Qiu’s hand. Nie Qiu looked at Li Kai and smiled faintly. Li Kai gently held Nie Qiu’s left hand, looking at the gauze wrapped around Nie Qiu’s right hand, his eyes dimming.
Nie Qiu’s Body was still somewhat weak. Upon arriving at the General Ward, the doctor and nurse set up the instruments. The doctor did not allow the oxygen mask to be removed, and Nie Qiu did not eat anything. Instead, after talking with Nie Aifang for a while, she fell asleep.
When Nie Qiu woke up again, she only felt a sharp pain in her right hand. She slowly opened her Eyes, and as expected, saw a white ceiling. She seemed to hear the chirping of birds outside.
She moved her hand and discovered that her injured right hand was sore and weak. Just then, her hand was grasped by another warm hand. “Nie Qiu, you’re awake?”
Nie Qiu turned her head with some effort and saw Eyes that, despite being bloodshot, couldn’t hide their smile. She looked at Li Kai and smiled, “Aren’t you going to school?” Because she was wearing an oxygen mask, her voice was a little soft.
Li Kai shook his head, “I wasn’t at ease not seeing you awake…”
Nie Qiu smiled, “Where’s my Mom?”
“Auntie went to get a Slip.” There were various reports for all sorts of examinations. Nie Aifang had gone to get some results.
Peng Yu Yang came in carrying breakfast. Seeing Nie Qiu’s Eyes open, he smiled, placed the breakfast on the Bedside table, and asked in a low voice, “Nie Qiu, how are you feeling? Is anything uncomfortable?”
