Chapter 247: Beating Zhou Baiyu Black And Blue
Zhou Baiyu instinctively hid the knife in his hand behind his back, his face still wearing that gentle smile: “Yao Yao, why are you here?”
Xie Shuyao didn’t speak, her gaze falling on the bloodstain on Zhou Baiyu’s cheek, then slowly shifting to the calico cat hiding in the corner, growling lowly at them with vigilance, her vision blurring darkly in waves.
If she had held onto a sliver of hope in her heart before finding Zhou Baiyu, this scene now completely shattered her illusions.
The thought that Tuan Tuan might have once suffered such inhuman torment made Xie Shuyao both heartbroken and furious, her whole body trembling as she gritted her teeth and asked: “Zhou Baiyu, you, what are you doing?”
“Yao Yao, you, you listen to me explain, things aren’t what you think they are.” Zhou Baiyu instinctively tried to quibble.
Xie Shuyao stared at him intently: “Fine, I’ll listen to your explanation, go ahead.”
Her words left Zhou Baiyu speechless, after all, anyone with eyes could tell what had happened here.
And what he had done; all explanations were powerless in the face of facts.
Xie Shuyao sneered, her reddened eyes filled with thick sarcasm: “Can’t say anything, huh? Zhou Baiyu, you really make me sick!”
“I’m telling you, we’re done!”
“No, Yao Yao, I…” Zhou Baiyu gritted his teeth, then knelt down with a thud in front of Xie Shuyao, tossing the knife aside and slapping his own face hard repeatedly.
His sudden action made Xie Shuyao instinctively step back a few paces.
Zhou Baiyu’s eyes were red-rimmed, looking at Xie Shuyao with a face full of painful remorse: “I’m sorry Yao Yao, I’m a beast, I-I don’t even know what came over me.”
“When I chased that beast outside and it scratched me, I lost my head and…”
“I’m a bastard! I’m a beast! I-I… I let you down Yao Yao, Yao Yao, don’t be afraid, I swear I’ll never do this again!”
He shuffled forward on his knees, reaching out with red eyes to grasp Xie Shuyao’s hand, choking as he begged her: “Please, give me one more chance, okay?”
Tuan Tuan on Xie Shuyao’s shoulder paced anxiously, shouting in her ear: “Mom don’t forgive him! He’s faking pity to gain your sympathy! Don’t forgive him meow!”
Xie Shuyao lowered her gaze to look at the man she had been with for years, forcefully shaking off his hand and quickly stepping back, her face full of disgust: “No way! I won’t be with someone who doesn’t respect life, and I won’t be with a cat abuser! Also, I’ll ask you one more time…”
“Did Tuan Tuan really run away, or… did you kill it?”
Zhou Baiyu hadn’t expected that even after kneeling and begging, not only did Xie Shuyao not forgive him, but she still cared about that beast that had run away years ago; a flash of anger passed through his eyes.
“I…” He opened his mouth, just about to speak, when Nan Yuanman, standing nearby and unable to stand his rambling nonsense any longer, pulled out a truth talisman and flung it at him.
The truth talisman slapped onto Zhou Baiyu’s back, and the next moment, he continued: “I killed it, so what?”
Xie Shuyao’s head buzzed fiercely, her eyes instantly turning bloodshot as she glared deadly at Zhou Baiyu.
Zhou Baiyu kept talking: “It’s all because that beast didn’t know good from bad, I just wanted to pet its head, and it dared to scratch me! My hand is insured! I had no choice but to chop off its limbs…”
“Slap—!”
Xie Shuyao couldn’t bear to let him finish, slapping him hard across the face: “Beast! You beast!”
Rage clouded her reason, and Xie Shuyao kicked off her high-heeled shoes, grabbing them and smashing them forcefully at Zhou Baiyu.
Zhou Baiyu had no idea why he had suddenly told the truth, and was smashed in the face by the sharp heel, opening up a bloody gash: “Ah—!”
He cried out in pain, dodging left and right to avoid Xie Shuyao’s attacks: “Ah! Stop hitting! Xie Shuyao! Can you calm down!”
“I’m your boyfriend! In your heart, am I not even worth that beast?!”
“Three-legged men are hard to find, two-legged men are everywhere! You Zhou Baiyu aren’t even worth one hair on my child’s body!”
Xie Shuyao didn’t stop her hands, growling through gritted teeth: “If I had known you were such a beast, I never would have been with you!”
Zhou Baiyu was in extreme pain all over, and hearing this from Xie Shuyao ignited fury in his heart: “You still want to cheat?!”
His hand groped on the ground, and just as he was about to grab the knife he had tossed nearby, Nan Yuanman ran over and kicked it flying.
She then stuffed the copper coin sword into Xie Shuyao’s hand: “Sister Xie, shoes aren’t handy, use this.”
Xie Shuyao took the copper coin sword and, with Nan Yuanman’s sneaky assistance, unilaterally beat Zhou Baiyu soundly.
Tuan Tuan watched at her feet, its whiskers twitching upward now and then, tail held high, looking extremely pleased.
Nan Yuanman saw that Xie Shuyao didn’t need her help here, so she turned around and walked toward the calico cat hiding in the corner.
The calico cat had just been hurt by a human and was especially vigilant toward people; seeing her approach, it let out a low, warning growl from its throat.
Nan Yuanman looked at the calico cat’s state, her eyes reddening as tears suddenly fell uncontrollably: “Too cruel! Really too cruel!”
“Don’t be afraid, I have medicine talismans, I can heal you right away!” Nan Yuanman quickly wiped away her tears, pulled out a medicine talisman from her small shoulder bag, chanted incantations with her hands, and flung the medicine talisman at the calico cat.
“Meow—!” The calico cat’s fur exploded in fright, letting out a shrill cat cry from its mouth, its limbless body desperately shrinking back.
Nan Yuanman gritted her teeth and made the medicine talisman land on it; as the calico cat turned to bite the talisman, it turned into a stream of light and entered its body.
The medicine talisman quickly took effect, the pen stuck in its eye falling out automatically, and the bleeding wounds on its body healing at a visible speed.
The originally terrified calico cat froze, its pupils dilating as it stared blankly at Nan Yuanman, seemingly not understanding why the pain had suddenly stopped.
Half a minute later, it finally made a timid, tiny meow from its mouth.
It looked at Nan Yuanman, cautiously moving its mangled limbs closer to her, reaching her feet and sniffing the reassuring scent before tilting its little head to rub against her calf, purring in its throat: “Meow~”
“Meow meow, good kitty.” Nan Yuanman looked at its limbless paws, feeling especially heartbroken, her nose souring as she tentatively reached out to pet its head.
The medicine talisman wasn’t a miracle cure; it could only heal wounds, not regenerate severed limbs.
“Don’t be scared, I’ll rescue you, and it won’t hurt anymore from now on.”
“Meow~”
Nan Yuanman carefully picked up the calico cat, and it stuck out its tongue to lick the back of her hand.
Nan Yuanman pursed her lips, gazing at the exceptionally clean operating room, yet hearing countless shrill cries of cats and dogs in her ears.
Nan Yuanman sensed something, her gaze slowly falling on a shrine in the corner of the operating room, a golden light flashing in her eyes.
In a daze, she seemed to see the cat and dog souls trapped in the operating room walls, crammed together, none of them intact.
They roared ferociously toward the outside of the wall, only to be bounced back by the red light emanating from the shrine: “Roar…!”
