Chapter 128: Revisiting The Muddy Swamp
After walking through a dim and damp underground stairs, Yu Lianyun listened to the dripping sound of water in her ears and arrived in the spacious underground chamber. This was once a shelter from the war period.
Yu Lianyun was fully equipped for the trip, she turned on her night vision goggles, and everything in the darkness ahead became clear and bright. She saw a messy patch of webbed footprints on the ground, extending continuously in an unknown direction.
According to the detection of her tactical watch, the magnetic field in this underground air-raid shelter was extremely chaotic. It was no longer possible to identify directions through geomagnetism, and the magnetic field was also interfering with external communication signals. Yu Lianyun was now unable to contact the outside world.
Yu Lianyun was not too panicked, because there were two blessing incarnations beside her that were much more eerie and powerful in appearance and ability than mermen, following her closely. They would not watch her get hurt, because she was their exclusive food, and no other people or other anomalies could covet her.
For “Yao Zhenzhen” and “Father”, she was a jar of fine wine that needed time to ferment, the longer the better, but the specific fermentation time was up to them to measure. So, before she turned into the fine wine that satisfied them, they would never allow any other demons or devils to take a bite of her flesh, not even a single hair.
Perhaps sensing the danger of Yu Lianyun’s situation, they had all come out now.
But Yu Lianyun was not sure if they really wanted to help her, because if it was truly from the heart, she wouldn’t have been trapped on the island for so long before, almost dying on the island.
Yu Lianyun suspected that these two guys who usually resided in her shadow likely had their own unique intelligence. They now knew to judge the situation, staying hidden silently when they knew they couldn’t win, refusing to come out even if beaten to death, and coming out to save her life when they were confident, just like now.
Regardless of whether these two really had intelligence, in short, their willingness to come out was a real big help.
Yu Lianyun followed the footprints forward, and suddenly heard a strange low roar from the distance. It was a sound she had heard before, the same sound emitted by a female university student suffering from mermaid disease whom she had interrogated not long ago.
“Hai Da Hui Ke…” Yu Lianyun did not delve into what this sound meant, but it seemed to have different meanings depending on the tone, a language that only mermen could understand.
Halfway there, Yu Lianyun stopped in her tracks, slowly turning the muzzle of the firearm in her hand, aiming the barrel at a merman standing quietly in place not far ahead.
The night vision goggles could not display the colors a creature should have, but Yu Lianyun could still identify the merman’s shape through its outline. The other’s back actually didn’t differ much from a human, just with particularly bulky upper body muscles, highly developed back and trapezius muscles, looking like a hunchback, with a row of fish fins blooming along the spine, sharp like a wheel of blades.
Seeing such a creature, Yu Lianyun had no absolute certainty of killing it, after all, the other was a scaled being, possibly bulletproof, and its reaction speed and perception ability were unknown. Perhaps her sneak attack would be immediately discovered, and it might even attract its nearby kin.
So, Yu Lianyun just aimed the gun at it for a moment before silently thinking of bypassing it. Better to avoid trouble.
However, Yu Lianyun had forgotten that there were two disobedient evil spirits by her side.
Yao Zhenzhen, moving like a humanoid spider, climbed onto the ceiling and slowly moved above the merman’s head. Just as Yu Lianyun hid her figure behind a cement pillar, it suddenly attacked, pouncing directly onto the other.
The stunned merman also felt caught off guard by this invisible opponent. It seemed to roar in anger, struggling desperately, but unable to move, its limbs firmly gripped by the immensely strong Yao Zhenzhen. Yao Zhenzhen opened her pitch-black mouth and madly poured unknown black fluid substance into the other’s blood basin mouth.
The merman couldn’t see anything entering its mouth, but it could feel the terror and evil of that thing.
In less than a moment, the merman seemed to lose its vitality, its entire body becoming cold and stiff. Its two bulb-like eyes gradually dimmed. When the brightness in its eyes extinguished, the merman was completely dead.
The dead merman gradually turned into black water, slowly dissolving and merging into Yao Zhenzhen’s soles, as if absorbed into her body.
Seeing this scene, although Yu Lianyun had witnessed the entire process of the merman being easily killed by the blessing incarnation and knew that the blessing incarnation was likely a much more powerful existence than the merman, she was surprised and excited. But when she heard ferocious roaring sounds coming from all directions, she knew those mermen had heard the last roar of their companion before death, and they were coming to kill directly.
Yu Lianyun’s face froze, she could only activate her inspiration, roughly perceiving a relatively safe direction, then unhesitatingly dashed toward it.
Seeing Yu Lianyun suddenly flee, the two blessing incarnations immediately followed closely.
“How big is this place exactly?” Yu Lianyun watched as she got farther and farther from the direction Drake and Li Nuowei had fled, feeling helpless in her heart. When she saw those ferociously-faced mermen appear, she felt a wave of sorrow…
“Why aren’t those mermen chasing anymore?” Drake was puzzled why the group of mermen that had been relentlessly pursuing him and Li Nuowei suddenly decreased by nearly all, followed by echoes of several gunshots and the screams of mermen before death.
Li Nuowei heard it too, “Looks like the Mysterious Group people have caught up.”
“Will they be okay?” Drake was somewhat worried. After all, the Mysterious Group were just humans no matter what; how could they fight against mermen with superhuman physical qualities?
Li Nuowei could only say, “Don’t know, let’s try to trust them. They should be able to handle it.”
With that, he tightly held the Sea God Ancient Texts and said seriously, “We’re barely holding our own too. Not far ahead should be the muddy swamp area. Get ready.”
Drake nodded, and walked silently side by side with Li Nuowei, soon reaching the final corner.
As long as they took one more step forward, it would be heaven in one thought, hell in another, or perhaps an existence that was both.
At this moment, Li Nuowei handed the Sea God Ancient Texts, which he had been carefully preserving, to Drake, letting him go ahead and experience death to see if the Sea God Ancient Texts could truly exert the mysterious power to suppress sea monster forces.
At this, Drake widened his eyes, “Hey, aren’t you going?”
“I’m not going, I’ll wait to see your result.” Li Nuowei laughed, “If you die, I’ll naturally restart this world.”
My biological clock hasn’t adjusted back recently… I get sleepy just before eleven… Overtime is really harmful…
