Lovecraftian World, But I Spread Curses – Chapter 133

Do It Over

Chapter 133: Do It Over

“It’s effective!” Yu Lianyun watched as those aggressively approaching Mermen entered the green glow range of the Fluorescent Phantom Nest, their momentum instantly wilting, slowing down in a listless and fearful manner. Although they still looked terrifying and ferocious, their threat level had greatly decreased at least, and she and Li Nuowei couldn’t help but feel joy in their hearts.

The Mermen surging forward one after another also keenly sensed the danger of the Fluorescent Phantom Nest, collectively halting their frenzied posture and repeatedly retreating in vigilance and fear.

Seeing this, Yu Lianyun simply held her gun aimed at them and no longer continued firing to attack.

Bullets are finite after all; save them when possible.

Both sides retreated while pulling back, step by step returning to the house where the Tunnel entrance was located.

However, after escaping the cramped space, the Mermen no longer cowered as they had Beneath the Tunnel, instead forming an encirclement in the Room and slowly closing in on them.

The Mermen were clearly not foolish; they also knew strategy and analyzed the situation. In an open area, Yu Lianyun and the others’ advantage would greatly diminish.

Yu Lianyun’s expression was grave as she tried to control her heartbeat. Li Nuowei coldly scanned the surrounding Mermen. The two guarded Drake and the innocent Boy sandwiched between them.

The weapon in Drake’s hand was only that Dagger, but he knew its purpose was not for self-defense, but for suicide…

Since he was the “Son of God” in the Anhai Divine Society prophecy, then as long as he died and ceased to exist, the prophecy could not succeed. At least he could use his death to guard the Human world.

But a good death is worse than clinging to life poorly. If Drake had a choice, he would naturally choose to believe in hope, hoping that these two reliable Teammates, Yu Lianyun and Li Nuowei, could lead them to escape alive.

The Mermen simultaneously tightened the circle and approached, voluntarily entering the influence range of the Fluorescent Phantom Nest, determined to capture Drake and the innocent Boy.

In response, Yu Lianyun and Li Nuowei immediately chose to resist. Yu Lianyun blasted the heads of the approaching Mermen one by one, while Li Nuowei, like a swordmaster with pure skill, fluidly wielded the Great Sword in his hand, proactively charging forward to chop down those Mermen.

Drake didn’t want to sit idly by either. Gritting his teeth, he set the Boy down in place and gripped the Dagger, staying vigilant against the Mermen that could close in at any moment.

A Merman rushed right up to him. Without thinking, Drake closed in, using his judo training to throw the Merman to the Ground, then seizing the moment to stab the Dagger into the Merman’s neck. In an instant, bright red Blood spurted out from the severed windpipe.

In the moment of killing the Merman, Drake also realized that these Mermen weren’t that different from Humans after all; they could be killed so easily too, though part of it was due to the influence of the Fluorescent Phantom Nest’s power.

It was nearly a bloody battle, with the three and the Mermen locked in an inextricable fight.

When the gunfire ended, Drake collapsed to the Ground in a haze of consciousness, with Yu Lianyun and Li Nuowei’s broken Corpses lying beside him. Even with the Fluorescent Phantom Nest’s power weakening the Mermen’s vitality, they were just ordinary people with limited stamina and couldn’t hold out against such a large-scale assault, getting killed by the Mermen one after another.

Drake gave a final glance at the innocent Boy still unconscious amid this cruel bloodbath, feeling some regret in his heart. It was a pity he couldn’t bring this Child back to the surface; his Parents would be so happy if they knew the message that their missing Son was still alive.

Somewhat powerlessly, he shakily raised the Small knife, aiming it at his own neck, as a Merman rapidly closed in on him.

“If I have no ability to choose my birth, at least let me choose how I die.” Drake thought, unhesitatingly stabbing the Knife into his throat.

And just after half the Knife was plunged into his neck, as he was about to pull it out to let Blood gush from the severed artery, he felt a force pressing down on his hand before death.

It was an icy touch, rough with Scales, filled with a strange fishy smell. A Merman had controlled him, stopping his action of pulling the Dagger out of his neck.

Drake looked at the Merman with some confusion and bewilderment, suddenly noticing that this Merman who had dashed over was somewhat special and strange. Ripples actually welled up in its lifeless eyes, followed by cold tears rolling down from its unblinking Eyes, dripping onto his face.

“Sad for the dead Son of God? No longer able to fulfill the things in the prophecy, your Deity will not awaken again.” Drake sensed the Merman’s Sadness and couldn’t help thinking, though he couldn’t voice the mockery.

The Merman stopping his Draw Sword action was meaningless, because the Knife had already cut open his windpipe and artery. Not only could he not breathe properly, but Blood was uncontrollably flowing from the Wound. Not pulling it out would only temporarily delay his Death, making him feel more Pain before dying.

Drake closed his Eyes, silently awaiting Death. Soon, he felt that even opening his Eyes was difficult.

He couldn’t open his Eyes, but he sensed something else. The Merman that had stopped him from pulling out the Dagger seemed to have freed one hand and was now stroking his Head.

“So cold…” For some reason, as Drake’s Consciousness grew more chaotic and Dark, he actually began to feel Fear, seeking comfort, and incredibly, the object of his seeking was none other than this strange tearful Merman. Inexplicably, Drake himself didn’t know why he suddenly depended on this Merman and acted spoiled toward it.

Strange… everything was too strange. Drake thought as his Consciousness entered the freezing point of Death.

Drake’s final Lantern show of life only showed him the deepest hidden Memory in his life. He didn’t remember how old he was then, but in any case, a sweetly smiling woman was holding him, happily reciting his name: “Grow up well, my baby…”

……

“Pfft—”

In the Car after leaving the Hospital, Li Nuowei suddenly spurted nosebleed without warning, Blood flowing profusely like a fountain from his nose, splattering everywhere.

“Holy shit, what happened to you?” Drake, who was driving, was startled by Li Nuowei’s sudden gushing blood.

Li Nuowei weakly waved his hand, immediately pulling out Paper towel from the Car to staunch the bleeding. While cleaning the nosebleed, he said, “Go to Liuhua Street, take the Sea God Ancient Texts from the Museum; that’s the key to solving the case…”

“Huh?” Drake was slightly bewildered. He didn’t yet know Li Nuowei’s Ability and was puzzled by his sudden change in Attitude.

“Turn around quickly; I’ll explain slowly later.” Li Nuowei gently placed his bloody hand on Drake’s shoulder and said. Whether due to the backlash of the Death Reincarnation Ability or excessive Blood loss, he felt dizzy and on the verge of fainting.

Seeing this, Drake didn’t hesitate at all, snapping back as if just coming to his senses. At an empty street corner, he suddenly yanked the steering wheel, showing off his driving skills that nearly flipped the entire Car, turning back toward the direction of the Liuhua Port Museum.

Everything felt like old news. Li Nuowei delivered the “lines” he should have numbly recited with slight emotional fluctuation to Drake, making Drake believe once again in his peculiar Ability.

This time, Li Nuowei saw hope for success, naturally feeling an excitement stronger and harder to articulate than anyone’s.

On the road, Li Nuowei borrowed Drake’s Mobile phone and quickly sent a Message to Yu Lianyun, telling her to bring more Equipment and Personnel this time to head together to the Underground Air-raid Shelter.

Everything proceeded as usual. Drake and Li Nuowei broke into the Museum, brazenly stealing the Sea God Ancient Texts, chased by those crazy Merman Believers. Drake successfully shook off those Madmen using his exceptional driving skills.

However, Li Nuowei knew this calm was only Temporary; those half-fish half-human Monsters had already guessed their destination. Though a few steps behind, they would absolutely catch up right away to the two who had just infiltrated the Air-raid shelter.

Upon arriving at the strange Tunnel near Cape of the Horizon Beach, Li Nuowei and Drake got out of the Car and saw Yu Lianyun, who had been waiting there for a while, along with the three Mystic Investigators she brought.

“You’re Drake, and you’re Li Nuowei, right? What exactly are you…” Before Yu Lianyun could question them, Li Nuowei preemptively asked coldly, “Did you bring the things I told you to? Are they all ready?”

Yu Lianyun was speechless, pausing for a moment before saying somewhat speechlessly, “Yes, all brought. What exactly do you want to do? Is Beneath the Tunnel really the seal site of the mysterious Sea Monster you mentioned in the Message?” As she spoke, she opened the Car’s trunk, which was packed full of Weapons and Equipment.

“Yes. If you returned from that island, you should know the Sea Monster back then wasn’t eliminated but sealed.” While explaining, Li Nuowei familiarly picked up the Equipment, donning it on himself and pulling Drake over to quickly gear up together.

Both Drake and Yu Lianyun felt an indescribable sense of confusion, stemming from Li Nuowei’s urgency.

Li Nuowei had explained a lot, but his tense and eager Emotions left them No Clue, only heightening their doubts and anxiety about the so-called “Death Reincarnation” Ability and the stories of other Reincarnation Lines.

“Please believe me.” Li Nuowei quickly noticed Everyone’s Expressions and realized his own impatient mindset. He rapidly adjusted his Emotions, then said earnestly, “Finally seeing hope for success, I’m a bit eager, not intentionally trying to confuse you. Of course, the situation now is equally urgent; those Anhai Divine Society Remnants will catch up soon. I don’t have time to explain in detail right now.

All I can say is, below there are still Survivors and an Important Prop that can resolve this Crisis event, so we must fight quickly and decisively.”

“…Alright, I’ll trust you once.” Hearing this, Yu Lianyun met his gaze for a few seconds, then nodded as if receiving some confirming Information.

Just now, she had secretly used her Inspirational ability to verify the results of “trusting Li Nuowei” versus “not trusting Li Nuowei,” so her Inspiration guided her to choose “trust.”

“Thank you very much.” Li Nuowei expertly donned everything, fully armed, then led Drake to the Front, guiding these Mystic Investigators together into the Tunnel.

“Are we chiseling through the Wall now?” Yu Lianyun asked puzzled. The Message from Li Nuowei was incomplete; she only knew there was an Air-raid shelter Beneath the Tunnel but not how to enter, so she could only think of the simplest and most brute-force Method.

Li Nuowei shook his head: “Pray for the dead, pray to send yourself over to accompany them.”

“Isn’t that praying to go send yourself to death?” Yu Lianyun couldn’t help but retort.

However, before Yu Lianyun finished speaking, she suddenly discovered Li Nuowei had disappeared, passing into the Wall. He seemed to have crossed an invisible light curtain, but when she reached out to touch, she only felt the solid Wall—what she thought was an optical illusion didn’t actually exist.

Drake trusted Li Nuowei and became the second to vanish from Everyone’s sight. Only then did Everyone understand that what Li Nuowei said was true.

Thus, the Mystic Investigators followed suit with Li Nuowei and Drake’s actions, indeed reuniting with Li Nuowei and the others behind the Wall a few seconds later.

“Hurry up; we’ll talk while walking.” Li Nuowei continued explaining the details Everyone was curious about in long passages.

With Li Nuowei’s increasingly clear and straightforward explanations, Everyone suddenly saw the light.

When Everyone heard a burst of rapid Footsteps from behind, they quickened their pace down the Stairs in unison.

Finally stepping out of the Stairs into the Air-raid shelter’s vast Underground Chamber space, Li Nuowei, at the Front, said, “Everyone, follow my Footsteps and run together.”

Following behind Li Nuowei, Everyone could only hear distant Voices and see strange Limbs appearing within the Night Vision Goggles’ range. This made them truly believe that a young University Student like Li Nuowei possessed a miraculous Ability—after all, without Night Vision Goggles, he could precisely Evade every lurking zombie in the Darkness Environment and find the exact path without hitting Walls.

Without hundreds or thousands of practice runs, it would be impossible to know every inch of Land in such a vast Underground Chamber.

But even the most careful plans have oversights; more people bring more risks. Despite the Safety guarantee, other risks increased, and some were still discovered by Mermen.

Li Nuowei and the others could only kill those Mermen that went berserk upon spotting people, finally rushing into that Underground House hiding the Underground Passage together with Li Nuowei.

Skillfully locking the Door tight and adding an iron bar to prevent forced entry by others.

Entering the Underground Passage, Li Nuowei tried to recall the gains from the previous Reincarnation Line, replaying them in his mind, then led Everyone to continue down the next Tunnel’s Stairs.

The method to seize the Fluorescent Phantom Nest was the same as last time. As a severe patient of Mermaid Disease, Drake had to make direct contact himself, using the fastest but also most undignified way to lift the Curse of Mermaid Disease.
