Lovecraftian World, But I Spread Curses – Chapter 185

Mad Brain

Chapter 185: Mad Brain

Three hours have passed since the public confirmation of Dr. Clark’s disappearance, and the Mysterious Groups responsible for the search and rescue are still making slow progress. Now the whole world is watching the Mysterious Group, and the pressure on everyone in the Mysterious Group is imaginable.

“Let’s hold a short meeting now. We can’t keep wasting energy like this. Summarize all the clues we’ve collected so far.” In the conference room, the elegant man wearing a silver-gray suit spoke in a steady tone on the screen. Facing such an urgent and high-pressure situation, Wei Chengye, as the head of the Mysterious Group, remained composed and calm. “Each leader, report first.”

This search and rescue mission was divided into three teams, led by three special action teams from the Twelve Zodiacs: the Rat Group, the Rabbit Group, and the Tiger Group.

The Rat Group leader was a woman with cold eyes and a cold beauty. She stepped forward and reported first: “Currently, the clue our team has collected is that special hair was found near the place where Dr. Clark ultimately disappeared. After testing and verification, it contains Reorganized Human DNA mixed with Huo Gu gene fragments. From this, it can be inferred that a Reorganized Being appeared at the scene. Although it cannot be fully confirmed, it is highly probable to be ‘Remnants of Sancai’.”

The Three Major Conglomerates refer to the three major conglomerates of Shenzhou, which have now been eradicated by global forces: House of Cards, Lihua, and Heaven.

The Rabbit Group leader was a tall, thin man wearing glasses, dressed in a suit, somewhat handsome, but with an indescribable business vibe, like an insurance salesman. He spoke right after the Rat Group leader: “Team Two investigated Dr. Clark’s social relationships and found that the Anomaly Biological Foundation is not all harmony. Although Dr. Clark holds a high status in academia, many in the Foundation are jealous of his talent and eager to take his place.

Therefore, we currently suspect that Dr. Clark’s disappearance may be related to those people, and we are investigating in that direction.”

Wei Chengye pondered slightly and turned his gaze to Yu Lianyun: “Hmm, that’s a direction. Keep pursuing it. Xiao Yu, how’s the situation on your side?”

“We haven’t collected any clues related to Dr. Clark.” Yu Lianyun shook her head. Her words made everyone present feel a sinking in their hearts, but Yu Lianyun continued, “However, we investigated a strange incident that occurred in Fengxiang City.”

“What happened?” Wei Chengye’s recently furrowed brows relaxed slightly as he asked curiously.

“A mental hospital in Fengxiang City was recently destroyed by a fire of unknown cause, killing many people unexpectedly, but the final statistics show that twenty-six patients and medical staff are still missing.” While speaking, Yu Lianyun walked to the computer in the conference room, operated her mobile phone, swiped her hand across the screen, and uploaded a document to the projection screen. At the same moment, the people present and Wei Chengye attending remotely saw that top-secret document filled with sins.

The top-secret document was an experiment document. At the beginning, the recorder stated from his first-person perspective: “Humans live on a small island called Ignorance in the dark ocean. This ocean is vast and boundless, containing infinite secrets. Facing the endless unknown, we should embrace them and delve deeper. Only then will we have the opportunity to witness the truth of the world and find great discoveries.

It is said that when humans first invented wireless communication and first listened to voices from afar via radio, humans heard voices that seemed to come from the depths of Hell.

When humans first sent the probe satellite ‘Emma’ to the surface of Pluto, during a back-sun observation, we first glimpsed huge eyes in the black fissures of the universe.

When humans first conquered the power of the ocean and reached the known deepest point of the ocean, we humans discovered an ancient temple slumbering beneath the ocean…

Every time humans challenge the unknown realm, it is always accompanied by the huge risks and opportunities of touching taboos. For me, the greater the risk, the greater the opportunity. Therefore, I decided to explore that taboo barrier in the field I am good at!

I want to research the human spirit realm and touch the core of the deepest subconscious!

I remember when I was still a student, I participated in a research project under Professor Wingate at Miskatonic University. While researching the influence of special sound waves on the human brain, we accidentally discovered the abnormal mental influence of special sound waves on schizophrenia patients. When the sound waves reached a certain part of the patient’s brain, they suddenly mysteriously dissipated.

You know, this sound wave can penetrate even 5000 meters of deep sea, let alone the mere human brain…

Unfortunately, this research could not continue because shortly after, Professor Wingate suddenly went missing and vanished from the human world. But in my heart, I always hoped to complete this experiment one day, so I kept waiting for an opportunity. While waiting, I almost forgot about it.

Until one day I came across an academic thesis related to abnormal civilization research. The thesis described an extinct abnormal race that mastered the ability to transform spirit and mind into a universal energy. From it, I learned about the concept of ‘Mind Barrier’ and that it widely exists within the spirit of intelligent life.

In that abnormal race’s civilization, they believed and were firmly convinced that behind all things’ Mind Barriers was connected a realm inhabited by some unknown powerful being. As long as one tears a corner of the Mind Barrier, one can obtain leaked energy from the unknown realm and control magical power.

However, the Mind Barrier is the shackles imposed by the creator on all intelligent things, and also a protection for all things. The outcome of casually tearing the Mind Barrier is terrifying. Becoming a madman or dying suddenly is already the luckiest ending. Being eroded by the power behind the Mind Barrier and transformed into an evil beast forever trapped in fear is the most tragic consequence…

The latter part of the thesis mentioned that the Mind Barrier does indeed widely exist in the spirit of all things, but this abnormal race’s civilization is not suitable for humans because humans’ spirit and physical quality cannot harness this power like they did. Humans’ Mind Barriers are dozens of times thicker than theirs. Not to mention that grinding the Mind Barrier will cause human reason to collapse, tearing open that thick wall is simply impossible.

Moreover, the Mind Barrier is not a barrier in the human concept. The thicker it is, the less it can be perceived or detected. Only in those with weak will and mental collapse can human instruments possibly capture its existence.

After reading that academic thesis, I suddenly remembered Professor Wingate’s sound wave experiment. Only then did I realize that the sound waves suddenly dissipated in the experiment because they encountered the Mind Barrier!

I was very excited to continue Professor Wingate’s unfinished project, but then I thought that if I followed Professor Wingate’s original research, it would be imperfect. Because if one wants people not to turn into beasts of desire while also gaining power comparable to ascension, a stabilizing gear is still needed…”

Humans in this world are too vulnerable; seeing a winged hound in a graveyard causes them to lose their reason, a mere glance at a statue of a tentacled bodhisattva in a crowd leads to endless nightmares and inability to eat or sleep, a fleeting glimpse of a black goat's hoof under the forest shade sends them into a panic... they are simply too vulnerable! People's joys and sorrows are not interconnected. They all seem to live in unease and fear, but Lin Ling only finds them noisy. "The best method to eliminate fear is to face it. This is a video tape full of blessings." Lin Ling handed a black video tape to the guest who suffered from dimensional power intrusions daily, and smiled, "If it's useful, don't forget a five-star good review." Setting up a small dwelling in the forest, the small dwelling sells various consecrated and blessed objects. The boss is actually a mental patient who has transmigrated. He never worries about someone giving his small shop a bad review. [Note 1] This might be a grand collision between Eastern Mysticism and Lovecraftian Power.
