Chapter 130: Footsteps From The End Of The Corridor
In the center between two closed doorways, an obese corpse trembled continuously, like a human about to wake up startled from a dream.
The previous attack from the dead man’s leg was not enough to defeat it. As time passed, this fierce ghost was resurrecting at an extremely fast speed.
Streams of pitch black liquid surged out from the corpse’s depressions. The liquid was extremely foul-smelling, as thick as pus from a decomposing corpse, showing no reflection at all under the light.
A certain chilling feeling drifted to Zhang Qian’s side along with the smell. The flame in his hand flickered and brightened slightly.
The fierce ghost’s strength was resurrecting. Although it had not fully manifested yet, this special candle had already detected the anomaly.
The corpse’s trembling speed became faster and faster, crawling on the ground and continuously vomiting, with the liquid surging out even faster.
The initially intermittent thin stream gradually thickened, and in no time it was almost like a faucet turned on to maximum.
Zhang Qian, who had already moved far away, watched this scene, feeling the sticky sensation under his feet, and suddenly realized that this liquid seemed similar to the black liquid in the carpet.
“I previously thought the carpet had accumulated so much liquid because it was damp and leaking water, but it turned out to be traces left by this fierce ghost.”
“To leave so much black water throughout the entire aisle, how long has this fierce ghost been wandering here…”
After a while, the corpse still showed no sign of stopping, continuously vomiting as if its obese body was full of black liquid.
“How much water did this thing drink in life? It couldn’t have drowned, right? Its corpse does look quite like the rumored drowned corpse. Maybe this fierce ghost is a water ghost?”
Gradually, Zhang Qian noticed some more irregularities.
Normally, in such an open environment, these liquids would only flow everywhere. Unless they filled all the rooms and the entire corridor, they could at most form a few small puddles.
But the water level beside the corpse was rising, and Zhang Qian could even see the cross-section of the liquid.
These suddenly surging liquids were confined within a certain range, concentrated only around the corpse, without flowing everywhere.
It was as if a transparent glass tank had been installed around the corpse, with all the liquid injected into the tank, with no chance of overflowing until it was filled.
“Darkness… so that’s what it is.”
Zhang Qian quickly understood something.
“When the water level submerges the corpse and keeps extending to the ceiling of the aisle, that cross-section should look just like the darkness seen earlier.”
In no time, the black water formed a thick layer, noticeably higher than the surrounding carpet.
Although this height was negligible compared to the corpse’s thickness, the buoyancy of the black water was astonishing. Even just this much was enough to play a significant role.
The corpse, which appeared extremely massive, actually gained action with the help of the black water. Its upper body slowly lifted, as if it were about to stand up.
Its two short thick arms also twitched twice, as if trying to support the body.
However, the two arms only trembled on the ground twice, failing to achieve any results.
Perhaps these thin arms lacked strength, or perhaps the influence from the dead man’s leg had not been completely eliminated.
But this only delayed its resurgence time a bit. As the water level rose, its strength would eventually recover.
Looking at the fierce ghost with its small arms and short legs, Zhang Qian inexplicably thought of an old turtle.
With its huge body and short limbs, this ferocious fierce ghost actually looked a bit funny.
But soon he couldn’t laugh anymore.
The black water surface suddenly rippled, and the entire body of water moved forward a tiny distance.
The fierce ghost floating on the water surface naturally moved along with it.
“Damn… you still want to chase me? There’s a ghost behind you that screwed you over, don’t you disregard it!”
Zhang Qian, who was focused on the situation here, had his pupils contract slightly. He hoped the fierce ghost would pay attention to the order of things and settle the score with the one it had just grudged.
Unfortunately, the water ghost made no response. It had no reaction at all to the dead man’s leg within arm’s reach, and instead moved slowly but firmly toward Zhang Qian, showing an intent of no rest until death.
“Fierce ghosts don’t attack each other?”
“But that dead man’s leg didn’t hold back when tripping the water ghost. The water ghost took a long time to recover…”
Various thoughts raced through his mind. Zhang Qian had no time to process them and only wanted to speed up his retreat before the corpse fully recovered.
“Splash, splash, splash…”
Adding insult to injury, a series of noisy footsteps suddenly came from the depths of the corridor. Judging by the sound, there were definitely quite a few people, at least five or six advancing side by side.
Zhang Qian was slightly stunned, his heart sinking half.
On the ghost ship, besides him, where were there any ordinary humans? They were probably just other fierce ghosts.
One water ghost was almost wearing him down to death. Adding five more, could he still live?
The footsteps did not slow down because of Zhang Qian’s hesitation; instead, they became clearer as the distance shortened.
Although the source of the sound was still in the darkness, and the fierce ghost needed a bit more time to emerge, there were no other branches in the corridor. It was only a matter of time before Zhang Qian ran into them.
Looking back, the black water’s water level had already passed the water ghost’s waist. The entire corpse had fully stood up and was drifting toward Zhang Qian’s direction like floating in water.
Although the speed wasn’t at its fastest, it wasn’t far off.
“Not much candle left, the handgun is useless, the lighter and mobile phone… besides the envelope, I don’t seem to have any other items I can use.”
“If there’s no other way, I can only stuff the envelope to the fierce ghost and try fighting poison with poison.”
Holding the letter himself and opening it would kill him, but he hoped they could act as bombs.
Zhang Qian’s footsteps did not stop; he continued facing the footsteps, trying his best to stay away from the water ghost.
It wasn’t that he feared the water ghost more; mainly, there was no way to survive behind him, but ahead were unknown areas. Maybe walking a few more steps would bring other hopes.
All the way forward, he had also tried opening the doorways beside him.
But all these doors could not be opened. Some door handles were rusted solid and couldn’t turn at all; others were locked, and pressing the door handle had no reaction…
After trying a few doors, Zhang Qian gave up. The water ghost was still hanging behind him, and he didn’t want to lose his life to the water ghost because of these attempts.
At the very least, he had to see what the source of the footsteps was.
“If they are humans, being able to survive on the ghost ship definitely isn’t ordinary; they might even be the legendary transcendent.”
“Even if they are ghosts, it’s not completely hopeless. Previously, the dead man’s leg could trip the water ghost. Now with two ghosts colliding head-on, I just don’t believe they won’t fight…”
“Splash—”
From the darkness, a foot wearing leather shoes emerged first.
