Chapter 21: Where Is The Newspaper Ghost?
After eating breakfast, Jiang Shan followed the navigation instructions and arrived at a construction site.
“Guanjiang Residential Area”
A huge circular archway stood at the entrance, behind which rows of buildings were still under construction. At a glance, the ends of the buildings couldn’t even be seen. Dozens of high-rises and over a hundred residential buildings were all built to luxurious standards along the river, standing beside it.
Although not yet completed, its overall quality had already surpassed many well-known tourist attractions abroad.
“As expected, our ancestors’ aesthetics are superior.”
After getting out of the car, Jiang Shan couldn’t help but sigh, but he suddenly noticed a problem: he remembered that the dilapidated tile-roofed house containing the Ghost Mirror and Ghost Cabinet was in District D of Guanjiang Residential Area.
But where was District D?
Such a vast area—if he used Ghost Domain, it would easily cause unnecessary panic, so a smart person would choose another way to find the location of District D.
Jiang Shan had specially bought a suit and a white safety helmet today. He deeply understood one principle:
“Outside, identity is what you give yourself!”
He put the safety helmet on his head, then strode confidently toward a group of workers.
In no time, Jiang Shan came up behind two workers wearing yellow helmets. He was about to speak when he overheard their conversation:
“Old Li, I heard you went to a nightclub again yesterday? You’re practically turning into a seven-star ladybug—rein it in, brother.” The man on the left smoked a cigarette while leaning on his shovel.
Hearing this, the man on the right slammed his shovel to the ground and said righteously to the smoking man:
“Old Wang, you old bastard, who the hell told you that crap? I clearly went to a foot bath yesterday. Let me tell you, even if I die, I, Li Haijun, won’t step foot in a nightclub!”
“The nightclub is doing a promotion today: recharge ten thousand and get twenty thousand, and tonight, as long as you spend five thousand, a beautiful wine taster will join you for free in a private room. Going or not, Old Li?” Jiang Shan asked.
“!”
“Going! What time? Which place?”
After Old Li spoke, he was about to pick up his shovel, but suddenly he realized the voice that just spoke didn’t sound like that old bastard Old Wang.
“Which little bastard dares to trick me?”
Old Li said angrily. Then he looked up and saw that old thing Old Wang was actually lighting a cigarette for a young man.
He looked closely,
“wc!”
“White helmet!”
Cold sweat instantly broke out on Old Li’s forehead. He cursed Old Wang countless times in his heart.
“This old bastard, someone important shows up and he doesn’t tell me. Next time I go to the foot bath, I must team up with the boss’s wife to rip him off.”
Though he was cursing inwardly, he still put on a smiling face and looked at Old Wang:
“Old Wang, when did the leader arrive? You didn’t even tell me. Hey hey, leader, I have a pack of good cigarettes here. Have one of these.”
With that, Old Li reached into his pocket, but Jiang Shan quickly waved his hand to stop him, then said seriously:
“You two better not think about bribing me. No cadre from our company is so vulnerable to temptation.” After taking Old Li’s cigarette, Jiang Shan continued in a stern tone:
“Slacking off during work hours is a major taboo at our company! This time, I won’t report it to the company. Penalty: run from here to District D and back. If there’s anything, I’ll talk to the foreman. Got it?”
Although Old Wang and Old Li had never seen Jiang Shan on the construction site before, they could tell from his demeanor that he wasn’t faking it.
They figured in their hearts that Jiang Shan must be the son of some new leader, so Old Wang said nervously:
“We’ll follow the leader’s arrangements! We’ll run right now!”
“Run then. I’ll supervise you two from behind.” Jiang Shan said.
Following behind the two, it wasn’t long before Jiang Shan regretted it. He walked nearly half an hour and still hadn’t reached District D.
“Better to use Ghost Domain after all.”
When they finally arrived at District D, Jiang Shan had walked nearly an hour and a half. Sweating profusely, he waved his hand signaling the two to leave.
After seeing the two walk away, Jiang Shan began searching for traces of the Republican Era tile-roofed house.
After wandering around for another twenty minutes, in a patch of overgrown grass that had been abandoned for a long time, Jiang Shan finally saw the Republican Era tile-roofed house he had been longing for.
Among a row of old, dilapidated buildings, there was a tile-roofed house built of blue bricks in Republican Era style. Just one glance, and Jiang Shan confirmed it was definitely the one.
Due to long-term neglect, the gloomy tile-roofed house overgrown with weeds exuded a eerie aura from a fierce ghost that Jiang Shan sensed in the gloom.
To prevent anyone from disturbing him, Jiang Shan unhesitatingly activated his Ghost Domain, enveloping everything around in gray fog.
Gray fog spread.
Then he pushed open the broken gate of the old house and headed straight to the second floor.
The hallway on the second floor was dim and damp, like an abyss swallowing everything without lights, but in the area covered by Ghost Domain, as long as there was no gold blocking it, Jiang Shan knew everything.
He first entered the first room and appeared directly in front of a mirror.
It was a Republican Era style dressing mirror, half a head shorter than Jiang Shan.
But Jiang Shan just glanced at it and left for the second room.
It wasn’t that he looked down on this Ghost Mirror with resurrection ability, but because this mirror was a key part of Yang Jian controlling the headless Ghost Shadow that caused dead machine.
Jiang Shan didn’t want to interfere too much with Yang Jian’s early growth.
Before crossing over, he had seen such a statement: Yang Jian’s name was already decided by Old Qin, and Old Qin could talk to his future self, with most of Yang Jian’s encounters and growth trajectory related to Old Qin.
For Old Qin, this terrifying anomaly in the supernatural world, Jiang Shan didn’t want to be killed by him for interfering with Old Qin’s plan.
“Yang Jian can be a god and end the supernatural in this world—why can’t I?”
“Let’s not talk about that. It’s not even certain if I can survive like Yang Jian.”
In this world filled with fierce ghosts, Jiang Shan truly had no confidence he could definitely survive.
With that thought,
After observing the room, Jiang Shan walked up to the Ghost Cabinet, glanced at the old, dim Ghost Cabinet and the three items on it, and chose to ignore them.
“Riddle man, so annoying.”
“Good thing I don’t have to decipher it anymore.”
After complaining, Jiang Shan took out prepared paper and pen from his pocket and wrote: “Where is the Newspaper Ghost?”
He then stuffed the paper into the cabinet door.
Although the Ghost Characters always told him that to balance the fierce ghost inside his body, he needed Ghost Blood to control the third ghost.
But when Jiang Shan first had the Newspaper Ghost, he discovered that the Newspaper Ghost could actually modify the killing pattern of the Ghost Characters—this was an ability the Newspaper Ghost never showed in the original work.
So Jiang Shan guessed that the Newspaper Ghost’s ability to modify killing patterns only worked on Ghost Characters.
Plus the description in the original work at Caesar Grand Hotel, it wasn’t hard to infer: the Newspaper Ghost was looking for a face.
This face could be Tong Qian’s smiling face or the Grave Crying Ghost’s crying face, but Jiang Shan vaguely felt that the Dead Face Ghost was the one it truly wanted.
Jiang Shan was searching for the Newspaper Ghost not only to find the puzzle piece of the Dead Face Ghost, but also to counter the eerie Ghost Characters inside him.
Back in the school, when Jiang Shan first controlled Ghost Characters, Dead Face Ghost, and Newspaper Ghost at the same time, he clearly felt the three ghosts forming a whole, actually resisting the supernatural of the Knocking Ghost simultaneously!
That sense of balance, Jiang Shan only experienced for a few minutes.
Thinking of those Ghost Characters that deceived him, Jiang Shan still felt a chill in his heart.
So even though the Ghost Characters had dead machine, he remained full of vigilance toward them.
No other reason—after being deceived once, Jiang Shan understood a principle:
“Human hearts are too cold, I dare not touch them; Ghost Characters are too dirty, I cannot trust them.”
Here come the brothers, stable updates, maybe an occasional burst. Hahahahaha
