Chapter 159: Accusing Liang Chaosu
Lian Cheng didn’t care about their silent communication; she gathered her strength and stumbled forward.
Wells still wanted to block her, but Little Slav stepped forward again. Lian Cheng, held back by a servant, confronted him, “Move aside.”
The words were in her mouth, half-spoken, when her head suddenly spun. Her arms, legs, and indeed all parts of her body felt a thousand pounds heavy, so heavy she fell straight down.
Little Slav slung his gun behind him, his arm supporting her back, and said to Wells, “The people downstairs were hit by you, and she fainted from anger caused by you. It has nothing to do with our squad.”
A large pot was smashed directly in front of his face, and Wells opened his mouth to argue.
A servant beside them cried out in panic, pointing at Lian Cheng’s legs, “Blood, she’s bleeding.”
…………………………
As soon as Liang Chaosu deplaned, the gang leader met him on the tarmac.
It was 1:40 PM. The Icelandic sun had just risen, a brilliant, burning light in the sky dispelling the dim, dark purple clouds, reflecting on the gang leader’s face, which was frozen ghastly white, as if coated in wax.
Liang Chaosu watched him for a few seconds, a bad premonition dawning.
The gang leader didn’t wait for him to ask; he lowered his head first, his gaze falling on Liang Chaosu’s chest, “An accident happened, Miss Lian Cheng was disturbed, and the baby… couldn’t be saved.”
Couldn’t be saved—
Liang Chaosu’s mind exploded. He lost his balance and stumbled back a step, caught by Xiao Da’s quick reflexes. His body was steady, but his reason was swallowed by the bright sunlight.
Like the gang leader’s face, his was also waxed, but more so, more widespread, and more fragile. A gust of wind would crack him open entirely, like land collapsing under a tsunami.
The light, the surroundings, everything was swallowed. A clear feeling of being submerged inch by inch, losing all sound.
Xiao Da was shocked by his expression and sharply called to the accompanying doctor, “Check on Mr. Liang first—”
His button was undone, and the cold wind drilled in through the gap. His chest, through his clothes, pressed against a hard object. The doctor moved the stethoscope around, getting closer.
Liang Chaosu waved his hand, pushing it away. The doctor, taken by surprise, breathed a sigh of relief. He was conscious and moving, so it wasn’t a case of catatonia from intense emotional shock.
“There are heavy wet rales in the lungs. It might be fatigue from the long flight. Let’s administer the IV fluids brought from home—”
“No need—” Liang Chaosu’s pupils were blood red. He suppressed the piercing itch in his throat, tasting a bloody sweet flavor as he spoke. He swallowed, pushed the doctor away, and pointed at the gang leader with a gloomy intensity, “Get in the car.”
The gang leader didn’t dare to have any objections. This was a major mistake, or rather, a series of mistakes.
First, the car accident behind the Whale Museum. Liang Chaosu had specifically warned them to be aware that more personnel would be sent from Huaxia. They were attentive and followed behind that group of Red Beards, but they hadn’t anticipated the Red Beards’ audacity in causing a car accident so recklessly.
However, the car accident happened in an instant and couldn’t be stopped. When Lian Cheng was pulled from the car, she was dazed and showed no obvious injuries or blood. The gang leader, accustomed to his strong, robust female subordinates, had considered the subsequent plan and chose to go along with the mistake, not stopping it.
Then, there was the mistake of intercepting the mercenaries sent from Huaxia, which led them to take Lian Cheng to the hospital. In that critical, life-or-death moment, the physical harm and psychological stimulation caused her to have a threatened miscarriage.
This last incident was even worse. He had repeatedly warned Wells that Lian Cheng was smart and quick-witted, and that he must be extremely careful with details and communication. But Wells had been careless and underestimated her, allowing Lian Cheng to notice something was wrong. He couldn’t hide it anymore. Even Little Slav, with his simple mind, knew to shift blame, yet Wells foolishly and unknowingly used force in front of Lian Cheng.
The convoy sped out of the airport. The Ice Field was bathed in the morning light, a dazzling golden radiance filling the sky. The gale blew snow particles against the glass.
Liang Chaosu’s cough worsened. Blood trickled from his lips and teeth, not much, but starkly shocking against the clear, white snow outside.
“Director Liang.” Xiao Da noticed and frantically handed him a water cup and tissues, “The doctor is in the car behind, do you want—”
Liang Chaosu’s eyes stopped him. The fire burning in his chest was consuming his internal organs, and a suffocating emptiness devoured his soul.
When this child was first conceived, he had suspected it, but he hadn’t confirmed it for a long time.
He knew very well that Lian Cheng didn’t love him romantically. She lingered for the Liang Family and her past brother. She didn’t hate him, but she harbored a growing desire to distance herself from him.
If she had a child unexpectedly, without his preparation, it was a child she would never have kept.
That’s why, at the Bai Family Hospital, in addition to surveillance, he had focused on checking for miscarriage procedures. The answer was no.
Later, when she left, Xiao Da reported that she hadn’t been to any hospitals during her journey, nor had she shown any inclination towards researching miscarriage procedures. At the Jade Mansion, she was also on her menstrual period. His doubts were somewhat dispelled when she agreed to leave the Liang Family.
Then came his discovery of the black clinic, and then her departure across the ocean.
He confirmed she was pregnant and had kept the child. It was the same as landing in Iceland by plane, the same as going to see her, passing through such a dazzling Ice Field. At that time, a fire was also burning in his chest.
It burned with incomparable intensity, burning his soul, filling him with disbelief, gratitude, and shock. It also burned through the blood surging in his limbs, scalding hot like lava, shouting to embrace her, to hold her tightly. The world was silent yet deafening. Embrace her, hold her tightly…
He wished he could merge into their bone and blood.
But after meeting her, he found she had severed ties with her brother and completely severed ties with him. When he touched upon the child, it ignited her accumulated resentment.
In their short two weeks in Iceland, she hated him and had begun to hate the Liang Family. With a child connected by blood, she was already beyond saving.
So, what about losing the child?
A sharp ringtone echoed in the car. The gang leader took out his phone. The caller ID showed the suffix “Doctor.”
He glanced cautiously at Liang Chaosu and answered, turning on the speakerphone.
The doctor’s voice flowed out instantly, speaking English, “Mr. Adrian, the patient is awake—”
…………………………
Lian Cheng was lost in darkness for a long time.
No sound, no light, no tactile sensation. She floated weightlessly, her thoughts clear.
Occasionally, there was a dull pain in her lower abdomen.
Lian Cheng felt a sense of security.
The pain wasn’t severe, it wasn’t continuous, and it wasn’t heavy or sinking. It was much better than when she had bled before.
Her daughter had always been so strong and well-behaved. It made her, who wanted to be a good mother but always led her into danger, feel utterly ashamed.
In the end, she had underestimated Liang Chaosu, underestimated his capability, and underestimated his ruthlessness.
He wasn’t a lunatic at all; he was a devil disguised as a human.
Lian Cheng thought of Old Ghost, Shen Lichuan, and the chaos in Iceland this time. How could she save them? How could she push everyone she had implicated out from the devil’s claws?
Her previous resistance had been completely insufficient, and her methods were entirely wrong. She was concerned about Mother Liang, afraid of the Liang Family, hesitant. Calling the police wouldn’t have been firm; the police would have just considered it a child’s tantrum against their parents.
Now, none of that was a hindrance.
She was the victim.
She should first find the embassy. The gang was rampant in Iceland, but against Huaxia, they were nothing. Old Ghost would return home peacefully.
As for herself, suing Liang Chaosu would be a very difficult path. Her household registration was still with the Liang Family…
