Chapter 169: Old Ghost
Shen Lichuan exited the hospital building elevator. The pain department on the fourth floor was located on the west side of the corridor, near the fire escape.
His secretary, Feng Chengshu, followed a step behind him.
“The gang in Iceland attacked viciously and were experienced. Old Ghost sustained extensive soft tissue contusions, with only his right collarbone broken. All other bones and internal organs are intact.”
“After admission, the emergency surgery department took him in, but his injuries didn’t qualify as severe. He was just in pain, a lot of pain. With Liang Chaosu specifically putting in a word, the hospital, to show its importance, transferred Old Ghost to the pain department.”
Shen Lichuan strode towards the hospital room.
The door was ajar, and a woman’s crying could be heard from inside, “Why can’t we call the police? You were beaten like this abroad. Our country protects its own; they will definitely pay the price.”
Old Ghost was half-lying on the bed, his face contorted in pain.
He also wanted to call the police and make that gang of scoundrels cry to their mothers, but what he did wasn’t clean. He could only coax his wife, “Our family does international tourism. Iceland just signed a 20 million deal this year. Xin Xin and Yue Yue will go to Harvard and MIT later. Endure it. When I’m better, I’ll find a way to deal with them.”
Shen Lichuan waited until the crying inside stopped before knocking.
Upon seeing him, Old Ghost immediately sat up, “President Shen, you’re here.”
Old Ghost’s wife was also very happy to see her savior and hospitably greeted them for a while. Seeing that they seemed to have something to discuss, she made an excuse and left.
The door closed.
Shen Lichuan suddenly stood up and bent down to apologize to Old Ghost, “This trip to Iceland, my ability was insufficient, causing you to fall into danger multiple times.”
“Oh, oh—oh.” Old Ghost hastily got out of bed. His bruised injuries were aggravated, causing him to stumble and almost fall. Shen Lichuan’s eyes and hands were quick, and he caught him.
Old Ghost bared his teeth and gasped, “If you calculate it that way, you’re looking at others’ mistakes and insisting on finding the reason within yourself.”
“Our plan was so good, but we were betrayed. And that little enemy of Liancheng had been on guard for a long time.”
“When I went to the small residential house to save Liancheng, as soon as the chaos erupted, all the gang members mobilized. I thought Wells was stupid. As it turned out, as soon as I snuck in, a young man with a gun was sitting at the entrance. He was one of the mercenaries from the beginning.”
“At that moment, I understood. Liang Chaosu had a double insurance plan. Openly the gang, and secretly he still had people. He’s truly cunning. This is what I saw; behind the scenes, there might be even more backup plans.”
Shen Lichuan helped him lie down, “Then your injuries—”
“My injuries were caused by the gang. When I went in, that young man was facing away from me and cleaning his gun, so he didn’t notice me. As I was about to go upstairs, Wells returned with people. Then I hid in the kitchen to try and escape, but another group of people entered from the entrance. After that young man fired his gun, it happened to stop near the kitchen, and I couldn’t get out, which is how I was caught.”
Shen Lichuan had gradually pieced together the entire process in Iceland.
He stepped back and sat on a small chair, “I originally wanted to hire you as the head of Shen’s security department after you returned to the country, and give you shares. But now, Shen’s is not a good place in the labor market, so I’m prepared to entrust you with managing an international travel agency for me. If you agree, my secretary will come to sign the contract with you tomorrow.”
Old Ghost was stunned. He had always operated under the guise of international tourism and had once considered pursuing this path legally. However, he didn’t even qualify for domestic travel agencies, let alone international ones.
Shen Lichuan was pressed for time. He glanced at his watch and stood up, “The danger has passed. You should rest and recover with peace of mind. Your wife needs to take care of you, and it’s unsafe to leave the two children at home alone. If it’s convenient, I’ll send servants and a tutor to accompany the children.”
This was indeed a problem. Old Ghost was dazed and didn’t refuse.
Shen Lichuan went out. Feng Chengshu was on the phone, a summons for an interview from the disciplinary investigation team. Their attitude was not stern, and there was no forced time, looking at Shen Lichuan’s itinerary.
When dealing with officials, one must have a righteous stance, not evade, and cooperate actively. Feng Chengshu received a signal from Shen Lichuan, “We have time now. President Shen will go over immediately.”
After hanging up the phone, Feng Chengshu’s worry was evident, “I heard the investigation team has already interviewed the banks. The banks are distancing themselves, and the evidence they submitted is very unfavorable to us. Could it be that the Liang family is playing dirty tricks behind the scenes?”
Shen Lichuan strode out of the elevator, “No. Liang Chaosu is meticulous. There are indeed problems with me withholding bank loans. He doesn’t need to make small moves; I’m already in trouble.”
“Shen Lichuan!” A loud shout came from the front, and Liang Wenfei aggressively blocked his path.
“The baby is 17 weeks old. I’ve asked you several times to accompany me for prenatal check-ups, and you never had time.” She said indignantly, “Are you free today? Coming to see a criminal delinquent is more important than whether your own flesh and blood has developmental problems?”
There weren’t many patients in the special care ward’s hospital building. There was only one cleaner by the elevator entrance, cleaning the trash can.
Hearing that there might be gossip, she dawdled for a minute, but as there was no follow-up, she had to leave.
Shen Lichuan remained silent throughout, gazing down at Liang Wenfei. His expression was cold, his eyes icy.
Liang Wenfei searched for a long time but couldn’t find any trace of emotion on him; only unfamiliarity, even hostility.
The hair on her body stood on end. “What do you mean? Does your Shen family still want this child?”
Shen Lichuan stared at her, his gaze sharp and oppressive, with a cutting edge, “If you give birth, the Shen family will acknowledge it. If you don’t want to give birth, the Shen family will not force you.”
Liang Wenfei was first intimidated by him and instinctively flinched. When she realized, her emotions rebounded from rock bottom.
“You want to go back on your word? You’re bringing a child into this world but not giving him a stable home, making him an illegitimate child to be pointed at by everyone?”
A smile flickered at the corner of Shen Lichuan’s mouth, both mocking and scornful, infinitely sarcastic.
Liang Wenfei’s heart pounded as she watched him, her arrogance faltering. “Marry me. Even if our marriage is in name only after we’re married, we’ll just co-parent the child.”
Shen Lichuan’s expression remained unchanged.
Liang Wenfei clenched her fists and escalated, “The current crisis of Shen’s is solely due to my brother’s intentions; my father disapproves. He can come forward to help you.”
Feng Chengshu next to them glanced at Shen Lichuan. Father Liang was currently marginalized from the Liang family, powerless, but possessed valuable insight and experience. Furthermore, if a member of the Liang family came forward to support the Shen family, it would send a signal to the official investigation team.
The Shen family had no malicious intent to harm the Liang family, and the act of withholding loans was indiscreet, but the Liang family did not mind.
Shen Lichuan looked down at Liang Wenfei, “Did your father send you?”
Mother Liang was hospitalized, but Liang Chaosu was still in Iceland and hadn’t returned, and had even blocked the news. Father Liang was clearly restless.
………………
The next day.
Xiao Da brought another group of doctors to examine her and formulate a nutritional plan. One doctor asked a lot of questions, resembling a psychologist.
Lian Cheng refused to answer and turned to Xiao Da, “Has he woken up?”
Xiao Da sighed helplessly. He first saw the doctors out, then returned and closed the door, “Not yet. Doctor Bert said the 48 hours after surgery are critical, and the week after is the danger period. If he doesn’t wake up for a long time, he might never wake up.”
He waited for two seconds, but Lian Cheng said nothing. Xiao Da could only ask with a blank face, “Do you want to go see him?”
Lian Cheng’s expression remained impassive, “He planned all of this. I don’t need to go.”
Xiao Da hesitated to speak, “Actually… from another perspective, it would be beneficial for you if Mr. Liang wakes up sooner. The people you care about are all in China. Don’t you want to return home earlier?”
Lian Cheng reacted, with a hint of mockery, “My funeral has already been held in China. In what capacity do you expect me to return?”
“Mr. Liang instructed that it is up to your will. If you want the Liang family’s identity, I will contact the embassy to issue a certificate. The court will revoke your death declaration in China. If you are unwilling, you can use your newly processed identity, obtain a Huaxia green card, and subsequently apply for citizenship.”
