Chapter 288: Joy From Heaven
The secretary’s eyes met Liancheng’s, and she nervously bit her tongue.
Lin Xianzi’s expression darkened drastically, then she forced a gentle smile to comfort Liancheng, “Mom has some things to take care of. Shi En personally went to ask Doctor Snyder to come last night, and he should be back soon. When you see him, thank him profusely.”
Liancheng’s chest felt like it was experiencing pulmonary fibrosis. At any moment, sharp, continuous pricks could suddenly appear, though the pain was not intense. She tried to move her limbs, but there was nowhere to put them.
“Liang—” she heard clearly, “Liang Chaosu?”
“It’s been measured.”
The secretary clapped her hands, her expression beaming with surprise. “Manager Lin doesn’t like the hospital’s decor; it’s ghastly white. Two blue lines in the corner, not warm or comfortable at all. We’ve discussed with the hospital to change it to a deluxe suite style.”
Liancheng didn’t react immediately, remaining silent for half a minute.
“Thank you, Mom,” she said seriously. “Is Liang Chaosu’s injury recovered now?”
The secretary lowered her head to hide her expression. Lin Xianzi remained impassive and instructed him to wait outside.
The door closed.
Lin Xianzi held Liancheng’s hands, examining her features with a smile. Once she had traced every detail clearly, she mused thoughtfully, “Liancheng, do you still care about him?”
Liancheng adamantly denied, “I don’t.”
Lin Xianzi’s expression was kind. “It’s actually within my mother’s expectations that you still care. After all, he acted like a beast for eighteen years while being a good brother. People’s feelings are inherently complex, especially towards family. Simple love and hate can’t be distinguished, making it easy to blur boundaries.”
“This is something many families in Asia experience. We resent family members for being selfish and causing harm, but when they get old, we feel tender and soft-hearted, remembering their good deeds even more.”
“No,” Liancheng’s hands tightened involuntarily. “Mom, I know what you want to say. You’re afraid I won’t be able to distinguish, that he’s clearly in the wrong, yet he’s called ‘love,’ and he wants to save my life, making me lose my judgment. I’ll fall into confusion where my feelings don’t align with the so-called truth, wanting to distance myself yet feeling guilty, unable to love him but also afraid to hate him.”
Lin Xianzi gazed at her for a moment. “Liancheng, you just don’t want him to die because of you, right?”
Liancheng paused and nodded.
“He won’t,” Lin Xianzi gently caressed her cheek. “He was transferred back to Nan Province and recovered quickly. The last time I heard about him, he was already able to get out of bed and was presiding over the Liang Family’s Board of Directors, holding his own against Liang Zhengping, with both sides evenly matched.”
Liancheng stared blankly for a moment, her back bending, and leaned comfortably on Lin Xianzi’s shoulder. “Mom, you’re so good.”
“Mom is not good.”
She opened her heart, and Lin Xianzi seized the opportunity. “Mom often neglects to notice your needs. You’ve wanted to ask about him for days, haven’t you? You’ve been holding back because you were afraid Mom would be unhappy?”
Liancheng tilted her face up and gave her a shy smile.
Lin Xianzi pinched her nose. “From now on, just tell Mom directly if you have anything to say, okay? Mom only has one requirement for you: to be healthy.”
“Other things like morality, justice, good or bad, aren’t important. And as for relationships, as long as you don’t get hurt, even if you’re playing with four men at once, Mom won’t be unhappy. She’ll happily help you teach them to be obedient and decent.”
Liancheng’s pupils widened, and for the first time, she stared impolitely at Lin Xianzi. “Mom—”
“Hmm?”
Liancheng feigned regret. “If Empress Wu were alive, my views would be considered conservative.”
Lin Xianzi burst out laughing.
The secretary heard laughter from the hospital room. Lin Xianzi opened the door, her gaze fixed on him. Her smile vanished, and thorns began to grow in her eyes.
The secretary opened his mouth.
Lin Xianzi stopped him and they moved downstairs to the corridor, avoiding him.
The secretary still subconsciously spoke in a low voice, “Liang Chaosu’s plane has arrived in Budapest, and he is on his way here. He requests a meeting with you.”
Lin Xianzi’s eyes flashed with sharpness, like a honed blade exuding murderous intent.
“Bai Ying sent a video showing another man with Liancheng. He was clearly provoked and lost his composure. Didn’t Liang Zhengping seize the opportunity?”
“No,” the secretary was also baffled. “He happened to go see Liang Chaosu that day. They discussed something. After Liang Zhengping returned, he seemed to take on a fatherly role. Not only did he help Liang Chaosu delay the police filing a case, but he also gave up his initial advantage in Liang Corporation. Liang Chaosu has regained control of Liang Corporation.”
“Useless. As expected, old dogs can’t learn new tricks.”
Lin Xianzi’s aura surged. The secretary bowed his head, not daring to speak.
Whether Liang Zhengping is useless or not is evident in the open warfare of Liang Corporation’s internal strife during this period. The industry is restless, yet no one dares to make the first move, which perfectly illustrates the situation.
Moreover, the recording fell into Liang Zhengping’s hands. Although it wasn’t what they wanted, Liang Zhengping’s situation is bright and his future prospects are promising. Despite this, Liang Chaosu was able to turn things around.
It can only be said that his scheming, trump cards, courage, and decisiveness are profound and ruthless.
The secretary’s experience is shallow, and he can’t guess what Liang Chaosu’s reliance was to turn the tables. However, their video wasn’t entirely useless.
At least, it served its purpose and did so very rapidly, like shocking fish in a pond, completely disrupting Liang Chaosu’s more sinister, malicious, and steady pace.
Now that he’s in Europe, it’s even more convenient for Liang Zhengping to raid his home.
Therefore, the secretary thought it was fine for Lin Xianzi to meet Liang Chaosu, like a grasshopper in autumn, always the most energetic before it dies.
“We certainly should meet.”
Lin Xianzi agreed, her mind on another aspect.
Liang Zhengping is an old fox who isn’t familiar with Mo Shifu. Every step he takes back home is steady and sure, and he will definitely plug all his loopholes before daring to launch a full assault on Liang Chaosu.
Liang Chaosu has almost no leverage that can be used against him, yet she found it. She thought of the Mo Family.
Liang Corporation might not have loopholes, but there’s always a third party. The foundation for cooperation with malicious conspirators is never trust, but a fatal weakness they know inside out.
If Liang Chaosu obtained something from Mo Shicheng, he betrayed Liang Zhengping.
Next, Liang Zhengping will surely seek revenge for every grievance. She just needs to follow the clues to find another major weakness of Mo Shicheng.
It could be said that a blessing fell from the sky.
………………………………………………
In the evening, Liang Chaosu arrived at the agreed meeting place.
Lin Xianzi did not hesitate to show her disgust and wariness in every detail. Liancheng’s hospital was in the west, while she, separated by a city, met Liang Chaosu in the east.
He rushed over, travel-worn. His gray casual long coat was creased deeply. The stubble on his jaw looked as if he had just shaved, the hurry leaving two noticeable bloody marks. His face was also pale.
His appearance was truly disheveled and disconsolate, yet his entire outline was incredibly indifferent and resolute.
As soon as he sat down, Lin Xianzi inverted a sand timer on the corner of the table. “My time is limited, twenty minutes.”
“Your conflict with the Mo Family is about to reach its climax. I need to take Liancheng away; her illness cannot be delayed.”
Liang Chaosu’s back was straight. The bright indoor lighting was too harsh, making him seem suppressed. His tall physique cast a heavy shadow, powerful and invisible, yet as substantial as if it could grip one’s throat.
Lin Xianzi crossed her legs, her fingers interlaced in a defensive, resistant posture. “If you’re here to discuss this, it’s absolutely impossible.”
Liang Chaosu’s pupils were extremely bright and steady, locking onto Lin Xianzi.
“I’m not asking for your permission.”
