Chapter 292: Alternative
“Then have you ever liked any man?”
Liancheng frowned, “Which law stipulates that a woman must like a man? I like you, especially you. Besides Mom, I love you the most.”
Bai Ying was about to go on a tirade, but couldn’t help curling her lips, “Me too. Besides my parents, I love you the most too.”
Love is really worthless. When you count it up, Xiao Da ranks eighteenth.
Feng Shien pushed the door open. Liancheng and Bai Ying were nestled on the sofa, as if their feelings were deeper than anyone else’s.
Bai Ying couldn’t argue with her and was anxious, her face flushed. She covered Liancheng’s mouth, relying on strength to gain a physical advantage.
Liancheng, relying on his agility, dodged back and forth, and in doing so, fell off the sofa.
Feng Shien quickly scooped her up. He had changed into a short-sleeved shirt in the next room, perhaps feeling the early summer heat. His firm, porcelain-white arms were exposed, with clearly visible veins winding along them, possessing a hidden strength.
Through the thin clothing, Liancheng felt his warm body against her lower back, a touch that quickly withdrew.
“Aunt Lin met someone on the way and can’t be back for three hours,” Feng Shien sat down on the other end of the sofa. “You asked earlier if she had something urgent to discuss?”
Liancheng’s breathing hitched, “You could tell?”
Feng Shien smiled, “You had a worried look on your face, clearly troubled.”
Liancheng subconsciously adjusted her expression, which contorted her features after several changes.
Feng Shien couldn’t help but chuckle, a muffled sound in his throat.
Bai Ying looked at Liancheng, then at him. The man’s amber pupils shifted slightly, his gaze deep.
His posture was also different, his arm resting on the armrest, his hand propping up his chin, looking lazy and casual, as if the awkwardness at the elevator had already been processed and dissolved.
Bai Ying admired him a little and stood up, “I suddenly have something to do. You two chat.”
As she was about to leave, she turned her back to Feng Shien, clenched her fist, and gave a thumbs-up. It was time for them to have a good talk.
Liancheng received the hint, clutched the skirt on her knees, and smiled awkwardly.
Feng Shien’s back wasn’t blind, but at this moment, it seemed as if it was. He crossed his legs and said, “Chat about what? About what happened at the elevator just now?”
His gaze landed on her face, his eyes smiling, relaxed, and forgiving.
Liancheng adjusted her posture and sat up straight, “I’m sorry—”
Her continued silence was unexpected to Feng Shien.
His posture also became more upright, and for a moment, the atmosphere was less relaxed and comfortable than when it was clear she was about to refuse.
“No need to apologize,” he said after a moment of silence. “You just got past your past, and you don’t want to—”
“It’s not that,” Liancheng’s fingernails dug into her palm, tightening and loosening until it became sticky and wet. She seemed to have made a decision, “It’s about the matching issue. I wanted to talk to Mom about it.”
Feng Shien’s gaze suddenly became deep, as if trying to probe the depths of her heart.
Liancheng met his gaze, “Liang Chaosu took my matching data. Whatever he wants to do, I don’t want his help, and I especially don’t want the kidney source to come from him.”
The probability of kidney matching is related to the source. Related kidneys usually have a higher matching probability. Lin Xianzi had already undergone a medical examination, but Liancheng couldn’t accept it.
Another type is husband and wife. This doesn’t refer to marital status or legal ties, but rather if they live together, have similar lifestyle and dietary habits, and have prolonged physical contact, their bodily fluids can fuse over time. This exchange of antigens increases the matching probability compared to strangers.
A higher probability means a higher success rate for kidney transplants, with fewer long-term complications, allowing them to work and live like normal people.
Lin Xianzi had implicitly provided his information, making Liancheng inevitably apprehensive.
She didn’t want to be entangled with Liang Chaosu anymore, nor did she want to owe him. Perhaps Lin Xianzi would compensate him in other ways, but Liang Chaosu lacked nothing in terms of money, power, or influence.
She couldn’t repay him.
Feng Shien fell into silence.
Liancheng understood the reason for his silence. It was a matter of phrasing; she should have clearly refused. Regarding Liang Chaosu, she had been vague, her attitude unclear.
Feng Shien was not the type to be blinded by lust. He had good feelings for her, and his inherent kindness allowed him to accept her. He was not willing to be trampled on or used as her tool.
Because continuing to develop a relationship with him aligned with Lin Xianzi’s positive expectations for her new life, it also eliminated the possibility of Lin Xianzi matching with Liang Chaosu’s kidney source.
“Don’t misunderstand,” Liancheng leaned back against the chair. “Bai Ying just said that there’s a man’s shadow in my heart, and I’ve never fallen in love with anyone.”
Feng Shien raised his eyebrows.
Liancheng couldn’t help but ask, “Do you think so too?”
She found it both funny and exasperating, “I don’t accept that. Shen Lichuan and I respect each other, are confidants, and are very mature in handling our feelings. My personal desires are not as important as his.”
She had fallen in love, and hadn’t even thought about Liang Chaosu.
Feng Shien’s expression didn’t relax; it became even more peculiar. “Are you going to reminisce about Mr. Shen in front of me?”
Liancheng burst into laughter, “I’m sorry, that’s really not suitable.”
Feng Shien also laughed. He got up from the sofa and moved to the single seat on her side, leaning on the armrest.
“Aunt Lin considered Liang Chaosu, but his capabilities, scheming, and temperament are all uncontrollable. Although seeking revenge out of a debt of gratitude is despicable and not his style, he seems to have no bottom line with you, so Aunt Lin gave up.”
Liancheng involuntarily sat up straighter and looked up at him, “Then why let him take the data?”
“Probably,” Feng Shien crossed his arms, with a hint of ease and a touch of playfulness, “to give him something to do.”
Liancheng understood. Liang Chaosu had already arrived in Europe, and keeping him too far from Lin Xianzi for too long would eventually exceed his tolerance.
With Mo Shifu also sharpening his knives and hindering her matching progress, Liang Chaosu wouldn’t be unaware. Letting him obtain the data would temporarily appease him.
It’s likely Liang Chaosu had also seen this, which is why he openly appeared at the hospital. Feng Shien’s attempt to stop him, even if unsuccessful, was not overly aggressive.
She understood and prepared to get up.
Feng Shien extended his hand, hovering in mid-air, a gentlemanly gesture, waiting for her to place her hand on his to help her up.
It was ambiguous, yet frank. If it was frank, then her swallowed refusal from earlier made it seem ambiguous.
Liancheng hesitated for a moment, then raised her hand, brushed past his palm, and rested it on his arm. Without applying much force, she stood up and withdrew in the blink of an eye.
Feng Shien’s eyes deepened.
……………………….
Liang Zhengping could be considered evenly matched with his son, but with others, he was like cutting through melon and vegetables.
Yao Nianci had previously encountered a group of mahjong-playing noblewomen in a private room and inquired about the Liang family’s turmoil, intending to seize an opportunity.
The Liang family’s sudden cessation of internal strife and father-son conflict had turned into a trap for those greedy hyenas like them who were restless.
They were filled with hatred, and besides holding grudges, they could only swallow the bitter consequences.
Liang Chaosu’s recording was also temporarily suppressed, and everything appeared to be stagnant.
Xiao Da returned to the study after finishing his call with Su Chenghuai. The man twisted the medicine bottle with one hand, unscrewing and then screwing back the cap.
The domestic situation is under control. Liang Chaosu tightened his grip on the medicine bottle, “The matching results?”
Xiao Da found it difficult to say, “In other aspects, the matching probability with the kidney donor bank in terms of blood type, PRA, and lymphocytotoxicity is not significantly different.”
“And HLA?”
Kidney matching has four aspects. Xiao Da mentioned three, with few high-probability matches outside of relatives.
HLA matching is the compatibility of Human Leukocyte Antigens. It’s different and most important. The probability of matching six loci determines the survival years after transplantation.
Xiao Da pursed his lips. “All six loci are matched. However, Doctor Snyder does not recommend it. The related donor’s condition is more perfect than your data, and your body is still recovering from severe injuries, so the consequences of kidney transplantation for you are immeasurable.”
Liang Chaosu leaned back, resting his head against the sofa back. “I know, and she won’t accept it either. The matching is just a backup option in case of emergencies.”
