Chapter 294: Smart
Liancheng was the first to snap out of her daze, joyfully running towards Lin Xianzi.
Bai Ying stood at the door, staring down blankly. The green turned to orange-red, a carrot taste that chilled one to the bone. She glared at Liancheng, blocking the doorway.
Liancheng immediately gritted her teeth, stifling a laugh, “Good Ying, I was wrong. How about you hit me once?”
One person admitting fault, Bai Ying looked past her shoulder and glared at Feng Shien again. He pressed his fist to the tip of his nose and coughed dryly, “I’m sorry, I bought too few cucumbers.”
Lin Xianzi also walked over, putting an arm around Bai Ying’s shoulder, “Aunt Lin was wrong too. How could I say what I thought just because you looked so cute? How impolite.”
The whole house was bad, and the whole house was sincere. Bai Ying couldn’t vent her righteous indignation. “Tonight, I’ll treat you all to carrots.”
Bai Ying took over the kitchen, and Liancheng and Feng Shien were swept out the door.
Lin Xianzi couldn’t help but laugh, “You little imp, you deserve it. Let’s all gnaw on carrots tonight.”
Liancheng linked her arm through hers, “Mom…”
She looked at Lin Xianzi’s appearance, her spirits low, her face tired, with the shadows of hardship pressing down under her eyes.
Full of questions, she didn’t want to ask anymore.
Lin Xianzi had said before that she didn’t treat her like an idiot and wouldn’t hide things from her. If the situation worsened, she would tell her sooner or later.
“You should eat a little less later. I’ll secretly cook noodles for you.”
Lin Xianzi’s heart was warmed. She stroked her daughter’s small face, “Next time, Mom will just see you and leave. Does it hurt badly at night these past two days?”
Liancheng shook her head, restraining her emotions. The next second, she hugged Lin Xianzi, “Mom, I want to come back to Huaxia.”
The investigation into Far East Pharmaceutical gradually deepened. Mo Shifu decided to protect Mo Shicheng. If she left Europe, Lin Xianzi would lose her weak point, and Liang Chaosu would also return to Huaxia.
“I’m afraid that’s not possible.” Lin Xianzi brushed aside her soft hair, revealing red spots on her cheek that wouldn’t fade. A thousand worries came to her lips, “Mom can’t leave you.”
If it were another reason, Liancheng could have refuted it, but she couldn’t refute this one.
At dinner, Bai Ying indeed served a table full of carrot dishes.
Liancheng pinched her nose and drank three large bowls of carrot juice. She escaped from Bai Ying’s clutches and discovered that Lin Xianzi and Feng Shien had both disappeared. She searched all the way downstairs.
The night was cool and deep. Along the dim lighting, by the side garden, there were flickering scarlet fireworks on the curb. The wind made them flicker on and off. Liancheng recognized the contour of Lin Xianzi’s driver.
Further south, directly in front of the car, standing opposite Lin Xianzi was a figure, tall and slender, his face obscured by the dark shadow of the tree canopy.
“Liancheng’s attempt to accept you shows she’s soft-hearted towards Liang Chaosu, but it’s absolutely not that kind of feeling.”
The night wind blew from south to north. Liancheng stood downwind. Lin Xianzi’s voice was faint, carrying a chill, sarcasm, and an undeniable weight.
“He’s lucky to have our past connection. I’ll send another batch of bodyguards to secure the vicinity of the hospital to prevent him from exploiting any loopholes.”
Feng Shien’s contour was turned away from Liancheng. “The Hong Kong kidnapping case has reached the public prosecution stage. The nature of the firearm involvement is extraordinary. The Liang Wenfei couple will be imprisoned for at least ten years.”
“Lanfeng already informed me.” Lin Xianzi finished speaking and saw through him. “You brought it up. What do you want to say?”
“Guo Pu.”
Liancheng’s steps faltered.
Guo Pu, Lin Lanfeng’s legal consultant, was in charge of all important and trivial matters. Lin Lanfeng had specifically chosen him to return the recording.
“He disobeyed instructions and betrayed me, refusing to disclose who was behind it. He is ungrateful. I know you have a relationship with him, but it’s best if you don’t get involved in this matter. Take care of Liancheng.”
Liancheng clutched the leaves.
Lin Xianzi perceived the forceful tone and changed her approach.
“Shien, you are fully aware of how tense the situation is right now. Jin Tonghai is dead. Huaxia and Laos are jointly investigating, and it involves Far East Pharmaceutical. The European investigation team will also intervene. It’s an international criminal case, and I’ll be unable to attend to everything. Liancheng is smart. I need you to help me comfort her, okay?”
Liancheng took two steps forward.
“Miss Liancheng.”
The driver only then noticed her and hastily put out his cigarette butt.
Lin Xianzi was furious. With such proximity, he had failed in his duty by not noticing her.
“Liancheng.” She walked past the nervous driver and grabbed Liancheng’s hand, “It’s so cold, why aren’t you wearing a jacket?”
Liancheng didn’t speak, her face set. She looked past her and glanced at Feng Shien, who was walking over slowly. “Mom, am I a baby?”
Her words carried a hint of anger, and her smiling face added another nine parts.
Lin Xianzi felt guilty. “Liancheng, Mom absolutely did not mean it that way.”
Liancheng was annoyed and sad. “The situation has changed so much, and you’re hurried and tired. I thought, like last time in Qi Province, you were just pressed for time and stressed, and didn’t have time to explain properly. So, you planned to completely hide it from me.”
Lin Xianzi was speechless. She thought Liancheng was angry that she had assigned Feng Shien. If the origin of a romantic relationship was impure, it was hard for a woman to forgive.
Unexpectedly, it was for her.
“International criminal cases and Far East Pharmaceutical. My experience is shallow, and my ability is limited, but I am your daughter, your family. I don’t want to be a delicate princess and pea, only a dodder flower protected by you. You should tell me clearly. Even if I am weak and alone against the great storms, I will bear them with you.”
Lin Xianzi suppressed a smile and squeezed her hand. “Mom knows. Actually, the situation isn’t as difficult as you hear. Liang Zhengping and Mo Shicheng worked together, and now they’ve fallen out. Liang Zhengping has what Mom wants. Our chances of winning are still quite high.”
“Liang Zhengping?” Liancheng knitted her brows. “He has Mo Shicheng’s things, so Mo Shicheng must also have his. Even if they fell out, they wouldn’t be foolish enough to give it to us, letting Mo Shicheng drag her down with him.”
Lin Xianzi took her upstairs. “He won’t give it to us, but he will contend with Mo Shifu. I’ve sent people to watch. If we see a hint, we’ll investigate ourselves in that direction.”
Liancheng lowered her eyes in thought. As they reached the elevator, she grabbed Lin Xianzi. “Mom, I’m not familiar with Jin Tonghai’s matter at all, but I understand Liang Zhengping. If they truly have mutual evidence of crimes, Liang Zhengping is very likely to fly to Singapore himself.”
Lin Xianzi froze for a second, then laughed and cried. “That won’t happen.”
Liang Chaosu was in Europe, but his secretary was in Huaxia. If Liang Zhengping made any rash moves, the father and son would immediately reignite their killing intent.
Liancheng entered the elevator first. “A normal person wouldn’t, but the suspicious Liang family definitely would. Liang Zhengping has followers like mountains and seas over the years. The only ones he can entrust with critical matters are Zhou Dazhi and a director named Wang.”
“Zhou Dazhi was abandoned by him to take the blame. Director Wang has always been responsible for the Liang Family’s affairs. Seeing Zhou Dazhi’s fate, it’s inevitable he would feel disheartened. Even if he didn’t, with Liang Zhengping’s personality, he would assume he was disheartened.”
“Moreover, they have fallen out. Mo Shicheng is strictly guarded in prison, and Mo Shifu has returned to Singapore. If they can’t reach an agreement over the phone or online, either party can unilaterally refuse contact, wasting time and causing more trouble. Only face-to-face will force people to talk.”
Lin Xianzi began to believe her. “Thank you, Liancheng, for helping Mom analyze. Who says you have shallow experience?” She smilingly pinched Liancheng’s cheek. “It’s getting late. Mom will take you back to your room and rest.”
Liancheng stopped her steps, pressing her lips together, unusually tightly, and gazed at Lin Xianzi.
“Then can Mom tell me what instructions her legal consultant, Uncle’s Guo Pu, disobeyed? And Liang Zhengping, Liang Chaosu coming to Europe shows he was suppressed. He’s at a time when he needs help to make a comeback. Why would he fall out with Mo Shicheng?”
