Chapter 150: Chang Ning’s Problem
Wolf Fang is an amphibious special operations unit for land, sea, and air. As members of Wolf Fang’s most elite combat squad, the B Group members are naturally arranged for a series of related training.
“Jump down. If you don’t want to suffer, firmly remember the action techniques I just explained to you. You had better maintain your posture when jumping down.”
Ma Da held the loudspeaker and stood at the edge of a platform about two meters high, prompting the Lone Wolf B Group already lined up on the platform.
The brave one at the front of the crowd was Chang Ning. He had a pale face with beads of sweat the size of beans on his forehead. Even glancing down slightly made him feel dizzy.
He didn’t expect himself to have acrophobia. Are there special forces soldiers who can’t parachute? If Gao Zhong Dui knew he was afraid of heights, he might want to send him back.
“Chang Ning, what are you dawdling for!”
Standing at the bottom of the platform, Hui Lang saw Chang Ning’s performance clearly and urged him on with a stern face.
“What’s the situation? Chang Ning, if you’re not ready, let me go first. You prepare at the back and jump later.”
Geng Jihui, second in line, saw that Chang Ning was off and leaned forward slightly, saying softly with full concern on his face.
They had lived together for so long that they more or less understood each other’s behavior habits.
Normally, Chang Ning wouldn’t even frown before charging ahead, no matter what was in front, even if it was covered in thorns.
A hesitant state like today’s was a first. Anyone who knew him knew something was wrong.
“Don’t worry, I’m fine.”
Though he couldn’t see Chang Ning’s expression, Geng Jihui could tell from his unsure tone that Chang Ning was forcing himself.
“Be careful yourself.”
Seeing Chang Ning insist on not switching, Geng Jihui said no more.
The platform was only two meters high. Even if Chang Ning messed up due to poor condition for some reason, there wouldn’t be life danger, at most just superficial injuries.
After several deep breaths, feeling better, Chang Ning signaled to Ma Da that he was ready and could jump.
As long as he didn’t look down under the platform, the dizziness wasn’t too strong and was within Chang Ning’s control.
Chang Ning and B Group were now doing basic parachute drop training. A week had passed since the day they saw off Miao Lian.
“Jump!”
At Ma Da’s command, Chang Ning leaped down from the platform and curled his body in mid-air to keep his posture intact. To prevent dizziness, he also tightly closed his eyes the moment he jumped.
With a “thud,” Chang Ning slammed hard onto the ground covered with thick mats.
“Ugh~”
His face had an intimate contact with the mat. Though the mat was thick enough, Chang Ning’s nose still felt sore.
This mat had apparently been used for practice before, so Chang Ning’s jump stirred up the dust on it.
The gray dust spread right in his face, making Chang Ning’s experience extremely poor and causing him to sneeze several times.
“Chang Ning, what exactly was going on with you just now?”
Seeing Chang Ning land, Ma Da helped him up and asked, looking at Chang Ning whose face still looked bad.
He was afraid Chang Ning had some hidden illness. Normally, those accepted into the unit shouldn’t have diseases. But what if? In this world full of contingencies, who knew what the next second would bring.
“It’s actually nothing big. I just discovered I seem to have acrophobia.”
Chang Ning looked unconcerned. Acrophobia was a psychological illness that could be overcome quickly with more related training.
“Why didn’t you say so earlier! If an accident happens, who can take responsibility!”
Hearing Chang Ning say he had acrophobia, Ma Da panicked. If a team member had acrophobia, their parachute drop training had to be adjusted.
Whether the training plan was adjusted or not didn’t matter. Ensuring team members’ life safety during training was paramount.
Though Wolf Fang had training death quotas, those were for accidents.
If conditions allowed, no commander would let their team members’ lives be unprotected.
After learning Hui Lang had acrophobia, Ma Da broke into a cold sweat. Luckily it was discovered early during training.
If they had started boarding the airplane for real parachuting and an accident happened, they wouldn’t have time to rescue.
“I didn’t know beforehand that I had acrophobia.”
Facing Ma Da’s reprimand, Chang Ning felt wronged. He didn’t have this issue in his previous life. Who knew he’d develop acrophobia after coming to the special forces world.
It was probably a condition the original host already had.
Currently, Ma Da was in charge of Lone Wolf B Group’s parachute drop training, while the others in A Group were busy with other things.
So there was no choice. Because of Chang Ning’s acrophobia, Ma Da had to pause B Group’s training first. He needed to call other instructors to help supervise.
Parachute drop training couldn’t be taken lightly. Someone had to watch from start to finish, constantly correcting the newcomers’ wrong actions.
Deng Zhenhua in B Group came from Eagle Division, the famous airborne unit in the whole army, and he was from its vanguard company Huang Jiguang Company. His parachuting skills were quite good.
So Ostrich was immediately called out by Hui Lang: “Deng Zhenhua, you take charge of guiding the comrades’ training. I’ll first take Chang Ning to solve his acrophobia.”
Hearing there was such a good thing, Ostrich immediately agreed to Ma Da and said he would definitely watch the comrades train seriously.
Back then, he chose to be a sniper to avoid armed cross-country, showing he was someone who would lie down if possible and never sit.
Seeing a chance to slack off, he naturally grabbed it firmly.
“Remember, guide them well. I’ll check the results when I get back.
If I’m not satisfied, believe me, rookie, you’ll regret it.”
Ma Da’s smiling face didn’t make Ostrich feel friendly at this moment. He realized he had taken on a big task.
“Hui Lang, can I regret this now?”
Ostrich nervously pretended to swallow, speaking with a stutter.
Training others, Ostrich had confidence, but the group in B Group with him weren’t obedient types.
They would listen to him, but the process absolutely wouldn’t be smooth.
If there were regret pills, Ostrich would buy several now.
“What do you think?”
Hui Lang looked at Ostrich’s fallen face, held back a laugh, and took Chang Ning to find Gao Zhong Dui.
“Um, brothers, parachuting isn’t hard. Just jump a few more times and you’ll get familiar.
Practice makes perfect!
Back in the day, in the class I led, there was a new recruit surnamed Xie who was scared to jump the first time. I kicked him down on the spot.
The result? That guy moved proficiently like a veteran.
Actually, little Xie always had good training scores, just lacked confidence…”
Facing the comrades with ill intentions, Ostrich braced himself and told some interesting stories from his old unit, hoping the comrades wouldn’t make things too hard for him next.
“Ostrich, don’t be nervous. We’ll definitely cooperate well with you.”
The medic said with a cheerful smile, nearly writing “harmless” on his face.
Looking at the medic’s annoying smile, Ostrich tried to maintain his calm expression.
If someone else said it, Ostrich might believe it a bit, but from the medic, he didn’t believe a word. On the contrary, he had to guard against the medic digging pits for him.
