Chapter 195: The Female Soldier Who Breaks Into The Exercise
“What a wonderful exercise!”
Senior Official He stood up and said to He Zhijun.
Whether it was the first half or the second half of the exercise, he was very satisfied with Lone Wolf B Team’s performance.
“Xiao He, well done, keep up the good work!”
After speaking, Senior Official He was the first to walk out of He Zhijun’s office.
After watching this exercise, he was no longer worried at all about whether Wolf Fang could hold on under the military reform wave.
If even a Wolf Fang like this couldn’t persist until the end of the military reform, then at least 90% of the designations of all special forces detachments in the entire army would be revoked.
“Thank you, Leader!”
He Zhijun saluted and thanked Senior Official He.
After seeing off the group of officers who came for the inspection, before He Zhijun could even catch his breath, he saw that young inspector get out of the car and walk toward him.
“Captain He, Wolf Fang Special Forces Detachment, with its outstanding grassroots officers and soldiers, will have a bright future.”
Hearing this, He Zhijun’s tense face couldn’t help but reveal a smile, his white teeth particularly striking against his skin.
Although this inspector couldn’t decide Wolf Fang’s fate, his inspection report would be sent to the meeting room as important reference information.
With the inspector’s approval, Wolf Fang’s fate shouldn’t be too bad, He Zhijun thought to himself.
“The international situation is now very complex and changing rapidly, basically different every day. Wolf Fang’s road ahead is still very long.
We dare not relax even a little bit,” He Zhijun said.
“It’s getting late, so I’ll head out first.”
The inspector shook hands with He Zhijun. He had originally wanted to talk about Chang Ning’s further studies but then changed his mind.
Jinling Army Command Academy was not far from the Southeast Military Region, so Chang Ning would probably go there.
As a teacher at the academy, he really hoped Chang Ning would come to them for further studies, provided other military academies didn’t find out.
There were more than just Jinling Army Command Academy in the country; the competition between them was very fierce.
It all depends on fate! Some things can’t be forced.
The inspector thought to himself as he sat in the car heading to inspect the next special forces detachment.
The rocking vehicle compartment and dim environment made the already exhausted Lone Wolf B Team members even drowsier. Soon, heavy breathing, creaking teeth-grinding, and indistinct snoring filled the compartment one after another.
In such a noisy environment, Chang Ning still calmly read the comic book he had swiped from the medic’s arms.
He wasn’t a comic fan and would skip parts that required prior knowledge.
In fact, Chang Ning was just using the comic book to pass the time. He had taken a brief rest during the exercise, so he wasn’t very sleepy yet.
While reading the comic, Chang Ning felt his shoulder growing heavy. At first, he didn’t mind, thinking it was Xiao Zhuang.
Suddenly, Chang Ning seemed to remember something.
“Xiao Zhuang is on my left!”
He slowly turned his neck, and a fair side profile came into view.
Seeing that it was Tong Youyou leaning on his right shoulder, every muscle in Chang Ning’s body instantly stiffened.
Having a girl’s shoulder lean against his like this was a first for Chang Ning after all these years; he was very unaccustomed to it and even a bit at a loss.
Even if he felt uncomfortable now, he couldn’t just wake her up.
Chang Ning was a straight steel man, but he knew how to treat people, interact, and handle social courtesies.
“I’d better read the book and divert my attention; maybe that will ease my discomfort.”
After refocusing on the comic book, Chang Ning felt the sensation of being tightly bound by ropes around his body slowly fade away.
He wasn’t sure if it was an illusion, but he kept smelling a faint fragrance lingering around him.
It was a fragrance he couldn’t quite identify, but thinking of Tong Youyou leaning on his shoulder, Chang Ning found it perfectly reasonable.
Girls naturally smell nice.
What Chang Ning didn’t know was that the side profile leaning on his shoulder had at some point taken on a faint pink blush.
“So embarrassing!”
Tong Youyou had woken up the moment she unconsciously leaned on Chang Ning’s shoulder. Being stared at so closely up close, even she, who was usually so carefree, felt extremely shy.
Under Chang Ning’s gaze, she felt hot all over. Reason told her she should get up immediately, but for some reason, she was a bit reluctant.
While hesitating, Tong Youyou fell asleep again under the assault of fatigue, this time leaning against Chang Ning.
Unlike Chang Ning and the others who trained physical fitness every day, this exercise’s dozens of kilometers of marching through the mountain forest had exhausted her both physically and mentally long ago.
Once the exercise ended and she could rest, Tong Youyou naturally couldn’t hold on; she wanted to sleep nonstop around the clock.
Team A was all sitting in a Humvee open-top off-road vehicle clearing the way for Team B. Gao Zhong Dui sat in the passenger seat with arms crossed and eyes closed resting, while the driver was the veteran driver Ma Da.
It had to be said that he was worthy of being Wolf Fang’s veteran driver; the winding, rugged mountain road felt like flat ground under Ma Da’s driving, and the speed didn’t slow down at all.
“Sorry, this is a military restricted area. Please turn back the way you came.”
A Wolf Fang sergeant squad leader stopped the female private holding a gift box.
Hearing that she had to turn back, the female soldier immediately became unhappy. After walking dozens of kilometers of mountain road, she finally encountered what seemed like a special forces non-commissioned officer—how could she possibly go back?
Besides, her feet were already blistered; turning back would ruin them completely!
“Turn back? Look how difficult this road is. I barely made it up here; I’m almost exhausted to death.
Squad Leader, are you all from Wolf Fang Special Forces Detachment?”
Facing the little private’s question, the sergeant squad leader answered irrelevantly: “You’ve come to the wrong place. This is a military restricted area; no entry without permission.”
The little private was thirsty and her feet hurt; she didn’t know how far she could go alone in the forest.
Seeing that the squad leader in front of her was unmoved, she thought she could go to the squad leader’s barracks to rest and inquire about Wolf Fang’s location.
“Squad Leader, where are your barracks?”
Hearing the other party ask about their barracks, the sergeant became alert. Wolf Fang was a highly confidential unit; you needed a certain rank to even know about it.
“Which unit are you from?” The sergeant asked calmly, though alarms were blaring in his mind.
“Military Region General Hospital.”
With that, the little private pulled out her identification from her pocket and handed it to the squad leader.
The sergeant looked at the soldier’s ID in his hand. Just as he was about to ask why she was inquiring about Wolf Fang’s barracks, he was interrupted by a screech of brakes.
“What’s going on?” Noticing the car had stopped, Dog Head Old Gao turned to look at Ma Da.
“Not sure, seems like our guys stopped an intruding soldier,” Ma Da replied.
“Let’s go check it out.”
Wolf Fang rarely saw strangers for ten days or half a month; suddenly a private running in seemed suspicious no matter how Dog Head Old Gao looked at it.
After getting out, he walked straight to the sergeant with Ma Da and asked, “What’s going on, Sergeant?”
“This private says she’s from the Military Region General Hospital, looking for someone.”
Seeing it was Gao Zhong Dui, the sergeant immediately saluted and told everything he knew.
Gao Zhong Dui looked at the soldier’s ID in his hand without speaking. He couldn’t figure out why a soldier from the Military Region General Hospital would come here.
“What’s that in your hand?”
Seeing that the soldier’s ID didn’t look fake, Gao Zhong Dui asked.
“Cake.”
Hearing the private’s answer, Gao Zhong Dui felt the world starting to turn absurd.
A private, from the Military Region General Hospital no less, coming to Wolf Fang for a birthday.
Had he fallen behind the times?
The sudden stop jolted the entire B Team awake.
“What’s going on? We at the barracks?” Xiao Zhuang asked.
“Don’t know, I’ll go check.”
After saying that, Chang Ning put on his equipment and jumped out of the compartment.
Seeing a short-haired female soldier not far away holding a gift box being stopped and questioned, Chang Ning felt the scene was familiar.
This scene before him was exactly Xiao Ying coming to celebrate Xiao Zhuang’s birthday.
“No way it’s this coincidental; there’s no combat training today either.”
Due to the red vs. blue confrontation exercise, today’s combat training was canceled and replaced with reading and study.
“What do you mean ‘no way it’s this coincidental’? What are you muttering to yourself about here alone?”
Ostrich was so curious that he got out to see too. Seeing Chang Ning talking to himself, he asked.
He followed Chang Ning’s gaze and showed a knowing smile.
“You know that girl?”
“Sort of.”
Chang Ning did know Lin Xiaoying, though she didn’t know him.
Since coming to this world, he hadn’t seen Lin Xiaoying; today was the first time.
“You’ve got it good, kid. You’ve got Tong the military doctor here, and now a little private chasing after you over there.
But take it easy; this could be a style issue.”
Ostrich’s sleazy look was too much for Chang Ning. That was Xiao Zhuang’s girlfriend; how could he possibly touch her.
“Tong the military doctor and I are completely innocent; don’t talk nonsense! The female soldier being stopped is Xiao Zhuang’s girlfriend.”
“What! Xiao Zhuang’s girlfriend!”
Chang Ning’s words shocked Ostrich so much that his volume rose.
Xiao Zhuang, sitting in the compartment, heard Ostrich seemingly call his name and poked his head out.
“What’s up, Ostrich?”
“Xiao Zhuang, see who that is?”
Hearing this, Xiao Zhuang looked in the direction Ostrich was pointing.
When that figure he longed for day and night appeared before him, Xiao Zhuang instinctively rubbed his eyes, afraid he’d seen wrong.
After rubbing and looking closely, confirming it was indeed Xiao Ying, Xiao Zhuang felt enveloped by immense joy, and he surrendered—to his love.
“Xiao Ying!”
In that moment of shouting, nothing else mattered; his eyes held only his Xiao Ying!
The sudden shout left even Gao Zhong Dui a bit stunned.
Xiao Ying heard the familiar voice and looked toward it, freezing in place.
Her long-awaited Black Monkey was in casual clothes, looking just like a bandit.
Hadn’t he become a special forces soldier? Why was he dressed like this—had he defected?
Thinking of this, Xiao Ying panicked.
People in love are always so blind.
“Leader, I’m here to celebrate his birthday. His name is Zhuang Yan; he used to be one of your Wolf Fang soldiers.”
Xiao Ying pointed at Xiao Zhuang running toward her and said.
“If he’s defected now, could you let me celebrate this last birthday with him?” Xiao Ying added cautiously.
She knew the consequences of defection, so she wasn’t pleading; she just wanted to give Black Monkey one last birthday.
“Defected?”
Gao Zhong Dui was stunned at first; he didn’t even know when his subordinate had defected.
Looking at the female soldier’s eyes already welling up, Gao Zhong Dui smiled, shook his head, and said to the approaching Zhuang Yan: “Since she’s here for you, I’ll stay out of it. Handle it yourself.”
“Yes!”
Xiao Zhuang saluted Gao Zhong Dui.
Dog Head Old Gao, halfway there, stopped, turned to Xiao Zhuang, and said: “I’ll ask the Captain for leave for you. Be back before dark.”
Xiao Zhuang smiled and nodded to show he understood.
