Chapter 203: Riots And Arson
After deciding to let loose and go all out, Chang Ning crawled out of the tent and patiently waited in a corner shrouded by shadows.
He had observed for a while and discovered that the corner he chose had a high patrol frequency.
If he hid carefully, Chang Ning believed the chance of being discovered was very small, because no soldier looked toward the corner in the shadows each time the patrol passed by.
It was a place very suitable for an ambush.
So Chang Ning took advantage of the gap before the next patrol arrived and approached the corner in two or three steps, the shadows perfectly concealing his figure.
The neat footsteps gradually became clear.
They’re coming!
Chang Ning perked up, his bright and alert big eyes scanning the patrol squad that was about to pass by him.
When the patrol soldiers approached, Chang Ning closed his eyes, controlled his breathing, and tried hard to make himself less noticeable.
As the last patrol soldier passed the shadows, Chang Ning, who was ambushing inside, pulled him into his arms and covered the unlucky patrol soldier’s mouth with his left hand.
Looking at the patrol soldier’s terrified eyes, Chang Ning revealed a gentle smile in the darkness, his white teeth unable to be concealed even by the pitch-black night.
“Relax, take it easy.
Soon you’ll feel nothing at all.”
Chang Ning’s words made the patrol soldier in his arms even more terrified, and he struggled hard.
Unfortunately, Chang Ning’s arms were as hard as steel bars, making the patrol soldier seem like an infant in his embrace.
Even using all his strength, the patrol soldier couldn’t break free.
“What kind of monster is this!”
The patrol soldier despaired.
“Mmmph mmmph~”
He tried to use his voice to alert his comrades, but of course Chang Ning wouldn’t give him the opportunity.
Chang Ning’s arm tightened around the patrol soldier in his embrace; gradually, the patrol soldier’s cheeks turned pig-liver red, his eyes bloodshot, and his legs kicked hard against the ground.
Futile struggling!
Feeling the reconnaissance soldier’s kicking strength growing weaker, Chang Ning knew he was approaching his limit.
The most dangerous moment had arrived; if he didn’t grasp the right degree, he would face the military court.
The reason would be killing a comrade!
If someone else were operating, they would inevitably strangle the patrol soldier in their arms to death.
For Chang Ning, although dangerous, it was still controllable.
The patrol soldier’s struggling grew weaker and weaker, while Chang Ning’s strength remained at a threshold.
Once the patrol soldier went still, Chang Ning immediately released him.
He gently laid him on the ground, pressed his ear to his chest, and after hearing the heartbeat, Chang Ning still wasn’t reassured and checked his breathing and pulse.
Only after confirming the patrol soldier had no life danger did he tear off the Blue Team armband and replace it with his own.
“Although I know I won’t fail, the operation still makes me nervous; next time, I’ll just knock him out cleanly.”
Chang Ning smiled apologetically at the patrol soldier lying on the ground.
After straightening his clothes and firmly pressing the new Blue Team armband, Chang Ning casually and boldly walked out of the corner.
His upright demeanor was such that if someone he didn’t know saw him, they might believe he was originally Blue Team.
Now was the time to strike freely.
The entire Blue Team barracks was quiet.
Only by approaching a tent and listening closely could one faintly hear intermittent and unclear voices inside.
Casually picking a tent with people inside, Chang Ning boldly walked in.
If not comrades from the same company, everyone might not be familiar.
Seeing Chang Ning suddenly enter, the Blue Team corporal in the tent got up from his bunk and walked toward Chang Ning.
“Something wrong?”
“Squad Leader, the Camp Commander is looking for you.”
Chang Ning looked into the corporal’s eyes and said sincerely.
“Camp Commander?”
The corporal was visibly stunned by Chang Ning’s words; he couldn’t figure out why the Camp Commander wanted him, as usually the Company Commander would notify him for such matters.
Looking at the new recruit in front of him, the corporal felt something was off about him, but he couldn’t pinpoint what.
“What’s the Camp Commander’s name?”
The corporal stepped back, creating distance from Chang Ning, and asked warily.
The other soldiers in the tent, seeing the Squad Leader’s odd behavior, immediately gathered around.
“Squad Leader, I’m not joking with you.”
Facing a squad of soldiers, Chang Ning still wanted to struggle a bit.
Unfortunately, the Blue Team corporal didn’t give him the chance.
“You tell me our Camp Commander’s name first, then I’ll go with you.
If the Camp Commander wants to make things hard for you, I’ll explain for you.”
“Well, then we’re at an impasse.”
Chang Ning said with a troubled expression, but his hand moved with lightning speed.
He quickly drew the handgun from the quick-draw gun holster strapped to the outside of his thigh and fired several clean shots at the Blue Team soldiers in the tent.
The distance between both sides was less than three meters; with Chang Ning’s marksmanship, he could hit the target even with his eyes closed.
“Corporal, please follow the exercise rules; dead people can’t make sounds.”
Chang Ning raised his index finger to his lips, making a shushing gesture.
At that moment, noisy sounds began outside.
“Red Team has infiltrated!
Red Team has infiltrated!
Everyone, confirm the comrades around you, then assemble outside by company!”
……
He didn’t expect to be discovered so quickly.
But Chang Ning wasn’t panicked at all; it was something anticipated.
If the camp didn’t descend into chaos, how could he fish in troubled waters?
“Who got exposed?” Geng Jihui wondered, hiding in the peripheral tent disguised as supplies.
Xiao Zhuang, Lao Pao, and Qiang Zi, who were also impersonating Blue Team like Chang Ning, looked at each other; they had been very careful the whole way and felt it couldn’t be them.
“It must be Chang Ning.” Xiao Zhuang said with a wry smile.
He knew Chang Ning; only that guy wouldn’t play by the rules or follow the plan.
Everyone said his brain worked differently, and now Xiao Zhuang felt a bit wronged inside.
Clearly, in Group B, Chang Ning was the most unusual, whether in physical quality or thinking.
“So what do we do?” Qiang Zi said.
The early exposure left him unsure of what to do next.
“No matter what Chang Ning wants to do, since he exposed himself so early, it means he needs chaos in the Blue Team barracks.
So let’s burn the tents!”
Among the three, Lao Pao had the most experience and accurately guessed Chang Ning’s intention.
“Burn tents?
Destroying supplies will deduct money; the allowance is already small.”
Qiang Zi tried to persuade Lao Pao to think again and not act impulsively.
Seeing the bank card balance decrease, it hurt his heart!
“Burning a few tents shouldn’t cost much; we can just move the supplies out first.” Xiao Zhuang said quietly.
No matter what Chang Ning wanted to do, he, Zhuang Yan, as a good brother, had to help out!
Two to one, minority obeys majority—what else could he say?
Qiang Zi admitted Lao Pao’s idea was good, but it cost too much money!
