Chapter 137: Someone Like Young Master Meng Surely Won’t Stand Idly By
Lin Duo pushed her away with one hand, then slapped her twice with her palm, “Stupid fool, I told you not to scream and you still screamed.”
Lin Zhi didn’t dare cry anymore, pitifully pouting her mouth as she looked at Lin Duo, softly calling out, “Older Sister, I’m scared, I’m really scared!”
Lin Duo looked around, mottled tree shadows looming overhead, swaying left and right in the night breeze, just like monsters baring fangs and claws, with the roars of distant wild beasts occasionally coming to her ears; all of this startled her heart, but she knew now was not the time to be afraid, so she could only pretend to be calm and say, “What’s there to be afraid of? What’s so scary about this place? You’ve been here before, it’s just that usually you come during the daytime.”
“R-Really?” Lin Zhi asked, trembling. She had just been slapped twice by Lin Duo and now didn’t dare stick close to her, but her heart was truly afraid, so she could only curl herself into a ball at the safe distance closest to Lin Duo.
Lin Xin hid in the darkness, coldly watching the interaction between Lin Duo and Lin Zhi.
She had originally wanted to directly break Lin Duo’s two legs, but then thought better of it; she didn’t want the Lin Family to blame her for that reason.
When she saw that Lin Duo had finally gathered enough strength to stand up and plan to take Lin Zhi down the mountain, she made her move.
Three water blades like wild beast claw marks appeared on Lin Duo’s calves, deep enough to expose bone.
She screamed and fell to the ground; seeing the tear in her pants and the blood rapidly staining it, her vision went black and she nearly fainted.
Lin Zhi was even more frightened, trembling all over, her mind full of what her older sister had said about loud shouting attracting wild beasts; she wanted to run, but looking at the pitch-black surroundings, she lacked the courage, so she could only grit her teeth and shrink to a spot far enough from the screaming and bleeding Lin Duo but still within eyesight of her, trembling.
The forest at deep night was full of dangers everywhere; the blood flowing from Lin Duo carried a heavy bloody smell that spread to the surroundings, soon attracting some bloodthirsty small wild beasts from the forest, like hyenas.
Seeing the scattered green glowing points of light in the darkness, Lin Duo finally felt despair; she cried and howled even louder, hoping someone would come to save her, but in the middle of the night like this, who would go out?
Soon, Lin Duo was engulfed by the pack of hyenas.
Lin Zhi covered her own mouth and hid in a tree hollow, watching in terror as her own older sister was torn apart by the hyenas.
Above them, Lin Xin looked down from a high vantage point at the bloody and cruel scene below, her heart utterly unmoved.
However, she didn’t want Lin Duo to die so simply; if she died, she’d know nothing, she had to stay alive, only alive could she feel the pain.
So, when she sensed that Lin Duo was about to lose the will to live, Lin Xin activated her wood element ability, driving the hyenas out of this place.
Looking at Lin Duo now, she was already a horrific sight, covered all over in marks from hyena bites and scratches, her clothes nearly shredded into rags.
Lin Zhi had been hiding in the tree hollow the whole time; after a long while with no more hyenas appearing, she finally crawled out tremblingly bit by bit to Lin Duo’s side; seeing her current miserable state, she almost wanted to scream but remembered not to make loud noises, so she covered her mouth with her hand, tears streaming nonstop down, wetting her clothes and also Lin Duo’s wounds.
Afraid Lin Duo would die from excessive blood loss, Lin Xin also used the weeds under her body to channel a bit of wood element ability to her; though not much, it was enough to sustain her until rescuers arrived.
Amid Lin Zhi’s anxious waiting, the sky finally brightened.
Lin Duo also woke up at this time; before even opening her eyes, overwhelming pain crazily assaulted her nerves, making her vision black out several times, nearly fainting again.
“Wah wah wah, Older Sister, Older Sister, how are you? Older Sister~” Lin Zhi had been guarding Lin Duo the whole time; seeing her finally open her eyes, she finally breathed a sigh of relief, but as soon as she opened her mouth, she cried out.
“G-Go, go home and c-call people, quick, quick.” Lin Duo endured the intense pain and said intermittently.
“I-I don’t dare.” Lin Zhi shrank back, pitifully shaking her head.
Lin Duo was already sweating cold sweat all over her forehead from the pain, and when it flowed to her wounds it stung fiercely; hearing Lin Zhi’s words, she wanted to slap her again, but unfortunately now she couldn’t even move a little finger, so she could only coax her first.
“The sky is bright now, and this place isn’t too far from the village; if you run fast, you’ll soon get home. If you dawdle any longer, Older Sister is going to die.” She was telling the truth, because she now felt dizzy and blurry-eyed, vaguely knowing this was due to excessive blood loss; if she didn’t get timely treatment soon, she might really die.
Even more terrifying to her was that she now couldn’t feel her two legs anymore; she simply didn’t dare imagine how she would live if she became crippled—her parents absolutely wouldn’t support a cripple, so her only end would be lying in bed and starving to death.
No, she didn’t want that, she absolutely didn’t want that.
“Hurry and go! Do you really want to watch Older Sister die?” Seeing Lin Zhi still shrinking timidly, Lin Duo finally couldn’t hold back her inner fear and yelled at her.
It seemed her yelling worked; Lin Zhi stood up in terror and ran off like a puff of smoke.
Lin Duo finally breathed a sigh of relief, enduring the pain as she began to think about what she should do to avoid becoming crippled.
Right, her eyes lit up—hadn’t Lin Nan apprenticed to an old doctor in the town? She’d seen that old doctor before, with an immortal-like air, clearly someone with real skill; if she could get him to treat her legs, she probably wouldn’t become crippled!
But how could she get him to agree to treat her! Under Lin Xin’s influence, Lin Nan utterly loathed everyone in the Lin Family, so begging him was impossible.
A handsome figure appeared in her mind—right, there was also Young Master Meng; a person like him certainly wouldn’t stand by and watch someone die, as long as she cried miserably enough, she could definitely move him, and maybe even have a chance in the future······
Thinking of this, Lin Duo felt the wounds on her body weren’t so painful anymore.
Lin Xin sat on a tree branch watching her gaze shift around, roughly guessing her thoughts, and came up with her own little plan—wanting Cui Shi to treat her wounds? She’d have to ask if I agree first.
One on the tree and one under it, each harboring their own thoughts, when finally the voices of villagers came from afar.
Lin Xin estimated the distance, figuring they would take about two quarters of an hour to arrive here, and no large prey would appear in these two quarters; she quietly left the place with peace of mind.
She sped back home, entered the space to take a quick battle shower, changed clothes and came out of the space; seeing Lin Nan and Lin Tao still sleeping, she didn’t wake them, went straight out the door to Mo Ziyuan’s house.
When she entered, Mo Ziyuan and Gao Yong were practicing martial arts, while Cui Shi sat to the side yawning.
“Old man, come with me quick.” After giving Mo Ziyuan a look, Lin Xin went straight to Cui Shi.
“What for? This early in the morning, this old man hasn’t woken up yet! Not going!” Cui Shi refused outright.
“Don’t regret it later!” Lin Xin pulled out a small bundle wrapped in cloth from her bosom like a magic trick, lifted one corner for Cui Shi to glimpse, then quickly put it away, gave him a blank look, and turned to leave.
