Chapter 141: Handling The Memory Weaver
Soon, Dan Heng came out of the Data Room, and Pamu and the others also arrived in the Observation Car one after another.
“Why is Passenger Welt still so tense on the Train? Is there an enemy on the Train, Pa?” Pamu asked puzzledly.
Dan Heng gripped the Ji Yun Spear tightly and looked around once.
Himeko looked at the identical new glasses the four were wearing and thought of something.
“These guys are just like paparazzi; whenever there’s something new, they’ll definitely rush over to check it out.” Meng Huaifeng looked through his glasses at the two Memory Weavers approaching and said.
“Now that you mention it, they do seem a bit like that.” March 7th agreed.
“This makes things much easier; no need to search everywhere.” Welt stood up and walked around seemingly casually.
The two Memory Weavers were still bewildered, not understanding what they were talking about, when Welt suddenly struck and grabbed them in his hands.
“Whoa! Ghosts! The Tr… Train is haunted, Pa!” Pamu screamed upon seeing the transparent figures in Welt’s hands and hid behind Himeko.
“The Train Conductor is such a wimp, so timid. Why not let me be the Train Conductor?” A Xing said with hands on hips.
“Who said this Train Conductor is scared? Passenger A Xing is actually coveting this Train Conductor’s seat; that’s really bad. From now on, no more small cakes for you, Pa.” Pamu gathered courage, stepped out from behind Himeko’s legs, and said menacingly.
“Ah? Sorry, I was wrong.” A Xing quickly slid to her knees.
“Even if you apologize, I’ll still deduct two days of your small cakes, Pa.” Pamu said puffily.
“Don’t be afraid; they’re Memory Weavers from the Flowing Light Memory Palace, not ghosts.” Himeko soothed.
Judging by their attire, it’s the standard uniform of the Flowing Light Memory Palace.
Memory Weaver? What is that?
The Angels and new passengers all looked puzzled.
“Memory Weavers are a group that follows the Aeon Fu Li of memory, existing in the form of ‘meme,’ unbound by material limitations, freely traversing the realms of the Sea of Stars. They are affiliated with「Flowing Light Memory Palace」, dedicated to collecting precious memories from the Universe to please Fu Li, believing that memory is proof of existence.”
“Most Pathfinders are helpless against Memory Weavers and can’t even detect their presence. Fortunately, Memory Weavers only collect memories and rarely take initiative against people. Having discarded their physical bodies, they have little impact on the material world and few attack methods, mostly targeting mental memories, such as rewriting memories, cognition change, common sense replacement, etc.” Himeko explained.
“Why are there Memory Weavers on the Train, Pa?” Pamu also reacted.
Welt recounted the sequence of events, restrained these two Memory Weavers, took out the previously captured Memory Weaver from space, lined up all three of them, and subjected them to interrogation by the Train Crew.
“Changing memories is really terrifying, isn’t it? Just thinking that your own memories are fake, and others can change them however they want, turning you into whatever kind of person they desire—it’s chilling. Scarier than losing memories.” March 7th shuddered.
Over the past two-plus years, with Meng Huaifeng’s occasional guidance, March 7th no longer cared much about her past memories.
Mainly, Meng Huaifeng knew clearly that the Flowing Light Memory Palace wouldn’t allow March 7th to recall her past memories; forcing it might even bring a Memory Envoy in person.
Moreover, besides the Memory Weavers, there seemed to be other secrets buried deep in March 7th’s memories.
So, dwelling on the past was pointless; she’d know when the time was right.
Additionally, due to learning sword technique from Jingliu on the Xianzhou, March 7th was very busy, so she hadn’t sought out Fu Xuan for her past memories and had little understanding of the Flowing Light Memory Palace’s Memory Weavers.
“We are formal Memory Weavers and won’t casually change others’ memories.” Memory Weaver No. 2 retorted.
“But you made us forget about you multiple times before.” March 7th shot back.
“Erasing our presence is to eliminate our influence on your actions and let memories return to their original state; that doesn’t count.” Memory Weaver No. 3 quibbled.
“Cut it out; I hear there are Memory Weavers among you who personally design plots as directors.” Meng Huaifeng exposed.
“Those are heretics; we absolutely wouldn’t do that!” Memory Weaver No. 3 said angrily.
“What exactly are you lurking on the Train for? What have you spied on?” March 7th asked vigilantly. Could this girl’s memories of bathing and changing clothes have been secretly filmed?
“Confess and get leniency; resist and rot in prison!” A Xing threatened.
“Exactly… wait, A Xing, whose side are you on?” March 7th reacted and gave A Xing a glare.
“What spying? How can Memory Weaver business be called spying? We just want to follow the Train to collect more precious memories; we haven’t done any bad deeds.” Memory Weaver No. 2 protested.
“Looks like we need some means.” Meng Huaifeng lightly tapped the Coffee Table with his finger, using the original Mind Communication.
Only because the Memory Weavers are formless and can’t see expressions; otherwise, their despair would be obvious.
These Memory Weavers who hid on the Train for so long knew Meng Huaifeng’s skill effects all too well.
“First, are there only you three on the Train?” Meng Huaifeng asked.
The three Memory Weavers fell silent, but their inner voices had already betrayed them.
“Indeed, only us three.”
“Actually, it was just me at first, but ever since you started pioneering the New World, the Stellar Train entered more people’s view, and more and more Memory Weavers wanted to collect the precious memories on the Train. At first, I could drive the others away, but gradually I couldn’t handle it alone and had to team up with these two to fend off the others.” Memory Weaver No. 2 grumbled inwardly.
“Huh, do Memory Weavers fight each other too?” March 7th asked curiously.
“Precious memories are like company performance to us; would you share your performance with others? Even if from different angles, submitting too many similar memories isn’t as valuable as having the exclusive one.” Memory Weaver No. 2 replied.
“Suddenly, the Flowing Light Memory Palace feels a lot less mysterious and classy.” March 7th said speechlessly.
“Besides making us forget about you, have you modified any of our other memories?” Meng Huaifeng asked again.
“Really not. I can swear to Fu Li.” Memory Weaver No. 2 said honestly.
Everyone on the Train breathed a sigh of relief.
“Besides collecting memories, do you have any other purposes on the Train?” Meng Huaifeng said.
“Protecting Miss March 7th’s memories.” Memory Weaver No. 2 said anxiously: “Don’t ask anymore; this really can’t be asked!”
“Protecting my… memories? Does my past relate to the Flowing Light Memory Palace? Do you know my past?” March 7th ignored the Memory Weaver’s words and asked excitedly.
“Deeply related, but I only know a little. Please don’t ask anymore! Learning the right thing at the wrong time isn’t necessarily good! With the Train’s current strength, it can’t bear it!” Memory Weaver No. 2 struggled frantically, trying to break free from Welt’s equipment restraints.
“Kacha… zzz… kacha~”
Cracking sounds came from inside the equipment.
Welt waved his hand, repairing and reinforcing the equipment.
“March, your decision?” Meng Huaifeng looked at March 7th: “We’re not in the original Universe now; there’s no Destiny power here. Even if we know, it should be fine.”
“Then…” A hint of hope appeared in March 7th’s pink pupils.
“Miss March 7th, to protect the secrets in your memories, we can pay with our lives.” Memory Weaver No. 2 interjected.
Although she really wanted to know her past and found these Memory Weavers quite annoying, March 7th, being kind-hearted, couldn’t bear to drive them to death for this.
“Oh well, forget it. Even if this girl was a planet’s Princess before, so what? This girl won’t abandon everyone to go back and inherit the Imperial Throne; she still wants to adventure thrillingly with everyone in the Galaxy. So, what difference does knowing or not knowing the past make?” March 7th sighed, comforting herself.
“Maybe not a Princess, but a beggar?” A Xing joked.
“Nonsense; I think you were the beggar before. Hmm, definitely; otherwise, why are you so keen on rummaging through trash cans?” March 7th declared.
“On this, I support March.” Meng Huaifeng said.
“+1.” Dan Heng said flatly.
“Huh?” A Xing was a bit stunned; maybe she really was a little beggar before?
No wonder trash cans felt so familiar; turns out they were not only her source of food but also her shelter from wind and rain.
Don’t worry, trash can; even if I’m successful now, I won’t forget my roots!
Decided: tomorrow, go to Ju Xia City to rummage through trash cans!
“Himeko sis, Uncle Yang, how should we deal with these three Memory Weavers?” Meng Huaifeng asked.
“The Train doesn’t welcome uninvited, sneaky passengers, Pa!” Pamu said angrily.
“Then let’s kick these three off the Train.” Himeko decided.
“No, even if you drive us away, it’s meaningless; other Memory Weavers will come. The Flowing Light Memory Palace won’t give up the Stellar Train as a source of precious memories, and Miss March 7th still needs protection.” Memory Weaver No. 2 hurriedly said.
“We’ll deal with other Memory Weavers when they come; it definitely won’t be you three.” Meng Huaifeng said disdainfully.
Although under the System’s protection they couldn’t modify his memories, making him unconsciously ignore them was still annoying.
If they want to collect memories, can’t they just come openly to visit? The Train Crew isn’t unreasonable; no need to sneak around.
“I’ll find time to research equipment for perceiving Memory Substance and meme isolation, aiming to succeed and install it on the Train before the return trip.” Himeko said. This journey meant Himeko wouldn’t have much idle time.
“Once researched, send me the blueprint; I’ll analyze it too.” Welt said.
“No problem.” Himeko agreed.
Meng Huaifeng looked at Welt oddly; why did it suddenly feel like Uncle Yang was living off Himeko sis?
The Law of Reason cozying up to a big scientist—truly blessed.
“Huai Feng, why are you looking at me like that?” Welt asked strangely.
“Nothing.” Meng Huaifeng quickly shook his head.
Welt fully sealed the three Memory Weavers into the restraint equipment, shaping it into a ball.
“The equipment will open automatically in three days; you can leave then. Don’t follow us anymore.” Welt said to the Memory Weavers.
“Wait! If you abandon us, how do we get back to the original Universe?” The Memory Weavers anxiously said.
“Once we connect the two Universes, with Memory Weaver means, I believe you can get back yourselves.” Welt remained unmoved.
The car door opened, and as Welt was about to throw out the Memory Weavers, Meng Huaifeng eagerly took the restraint equipment from Welt’s hand.
“Uncle Yang, let me!”
Meng Huaifeng tossed the restraint equipment, then kicked it powerfully one by one, sending the three Memory Weavers into the deep starry sky.
“Off you go!”
“Refreshing, satisfying!” Meng Huaifeng patted his hands.
“I want a turn too.” A Xing said enviously.
“None left.” Meng Huaifeng spread his hands.
A Xing shifted her gaze to the clutter in the Train car.
“No way, Pa!” Pamu saw A Xing’s intent and glared at her tigerishly.
A Xing reluctantly withdrew her gaze; all because Huai Feng kicked too fast.
“How far is the Angel Nebula?” Welt inquired.
“Due to laying the Silver Rail, speed is slower; about another six or seven days.” Himeko replied.
“Ahem, this time Passenger Welt and Passenger Meng Huaifeng discovered and resolved the safety hazard on the Train. This Train Conductor decides to reward them five million credits from the Train special fund; Passenger March 7th, as support staff, rewards one million credits from the Train special fund, Pa.” Pamu announced.
“Yay!” March 7th cheered.
“What about me?” A Xing asked doubtfully.
Pamu glanced at A Xing, somewhat reluctantly: “Passenger A Xing, as witness, rewards ten thousand credits from the Train special fund, Pa.”
A Xing was somewhat petrified, indignantly saying: “Ten thousand credits? That’s beggar change; I, A Xing, don’t take handouts.”
“Since Passenger A Xing doesn’t want it, then retract…”
“I want it! Even a mosquito leg is meat.” A Xing immediately changed her tune; she was probably a little beggar before, so beggar change it was.
Ten thousand credits—how many trash cans would that take to earn?
Rarely returning to the Train, the four rested there for a night, with Pamu preparing a sumptuous feast.
Pamu, who said she’d deduct A Xing’s small cakes for two days, still gave A Xing a share; A Xing naturally wouldn’t foolishly bring it up, devouring it voraciously as if afraid Pamu would remember.
After resting a night, the four activated the Realm Anchor in the Villa and returned to Blue Star.
Just back on Blue Star, Meng Huaifeng received a text from Lian Feng.
“Superdimension Academy starts tomorrow; come see the students.” Meng Huaifeng read the text.
“Teaching students… this girl has never taught; what to teach?” March 7th said somewhat nervously.
“Relax; we’re teaching practical combat—just beat them.” Meng Huaifeng gestured with his fist.
Thinking of the Xiong Bing Lian in the original work training so long yet still being a motley crew, Meng Huaifeng couldn’t bear to look.
Superdimension Academy had plenty of scholars and scientists among Earth’s forces and Deno Remnants, but no ready powerful combatants; the strongest, A Jie, was merely a second-generation Super Warrior.
Teaching theoretical knowledge was fine, but teaching combat experience wasn’t their forte.
Of course, this world being all about technology gods, with enough computing power technology to crush, they didn’t emphasize close combat power much.
Perhaps they thought that as long as body strength is developed, and super genes fused and upgraded quickly, even lacking combat experience, they could still crush opponents.
