Chapter 121: Sleep, I’ll Stay With You Tonight
“Alright, Ziyi, come in,” Leng Yanfei replied from inside the door.
Lu Ziyi pushed the door open and saw Ye Chuxiao awake, sitting propped up in bed. However, her eyelids were half-closed, and she looked extremely sleepy.
“Xiaoxiao, why are you awake again?” Lu Ziyi asked with concern.
Aunt Leng replied apologetically, “I was changing Xiaoxiao’s clothes and disturbed her.”
“I’m sorry for causing you trouble,” Ye Chuxiao said, covering her face with the back of her hand and yawning widely.
Aunt Leng was changing her clothes, and Ye Chuxiao felt embarrassed. She insisted on getting up to change herself, which is why she woke up.
“Xiaoxiao, let me wash your face. You should go back to sleep quickly.”
Lu Ziyi placed the basin on the bedside cabinet, took out the towel from the basin, wrung it out slightly, and then carefully wiped Ye Chuxiao’s face.
Because she had been crying and was still drowsy, Xiaoxiao’s eyes were swollen. Lu Ziyi applied a warm towel, hoping Xiaoxiao would feel more comfortable.
There were also tear streaks on her little face, which was truly heartbreaking. Lu Ziyi carefully wiped them away as well.
Sigh, these little lips, when will they become rosy and tender again?
Her chin even felt a bit thinner and sharper.
Lu Ziyi washed Ye Chuxiao’s face once, then washed it again.
Aunt Leng watched from the side, smiling faintly. Her son, when washing Xiaoxiao’s face, was as if he were cleaning a priceless jade artifact. He was afraid of applying too much force and hurting her, being as careful as if he were holding a light, floating feather.
Her little face felt much refreshed after being washed. Lu Ziyi said gently, “Xiaoxiao, sleep now. Rest well, and you’ll get better soon.”
Lu Ziyi draped the towel over the edge of the basin.
Ye Chuxiao, as if afraid he would leave, instinctively grabbed Lu Ziyi’s arm.
“Xiaoxiao,” Lu Ziyi smiled and said, “I’m going to get some water. I’ll come back up to be with you after I put the basin down.”
“I’ll go,” Aunt Leng said, taking the basin. “Ziyi, you stay with Xiaoxiao.”
Oh my, seeing her son and future daughter-in-law so inseparable, Aunt Leng felt completely superfluous.
Aunt Leng smiled and carried the basin out.
Lu Ziyi adjusted Ye Chuxiao’s pillow for her, helped her lie down, and then covered her with a thin blanket.
“Sleep, Xiaoxiao. I’ll stay here with you tonight.”
Lu Ziyi brushed aside a few strands of hair that had fallen onto Xiaoxiao’s face, his gaze full of pity as he looked at her haggard expression.
“Mmm…” Ye Chuxiao responded.
Lu Ziyi sat down on the chair by the bed, watching over Xiaoxiao.
Ye Chuxiao’s gaze followed him, lingering on him. Her eyelids were very heavy, yet she still gazed in his direction until an irresistible drowsiness overcame her, and her consciousness faded.
In her final vision, he was still sitting by the bed, his profile gentle and handsome.
Lu Ziyi watched Ye Chuxiao gradually fall into a deep sleep and dimmed the bedside lamp.
Having walked on winding, uphill, and downhill mountain paths all day, she would have been very tired even if she weren’t sick. Moreover, Xiaoxiao was ill, making her even more groggy and disoriented.
In the dim light, Lu Ziyi gazed at Ye Chuxiao’s weak appearance with tenderness.
He had held her before and knew her body was very soft, but now, as she slept, she seemed to be limp and without feeling.
She looked listless, but her cheeks were flushed red from the effects of the medicine.
Sigh, Lu Ziyi sighed inwardly. Would Xiaoxiao have a very bad impression of her visit to his home?
She was quite seriously ill and had to drink a large bowl of bitter Traditional Chinese Medicine, so bitter that she even cried!
In Xiaoxiao’s heart, wouldn’t she give the Lu Family a very low score?
And then, she would cross him off too!
Lu Ziyi’s heart grew heavier and heavier.
