Chapter 234: Falling from the Horse
Liu Chuanbin glanced upstairs at Gong Changan, who was leaning against the window with his arms crossed and looking at him, and gritted his teeth, “Shut up! This is my horse, what’s wrong with riding it?”
Saying that, he took the reins into his own hand and snapped, “This is a beast I bought with my own money, and it should be ridden and beaten by me!”
As he spoke, he kicked the horse’s belly twice.
The horse was already agitated, and being treated like this, it immediately went mad.
It suddenly reared up on its front legs, throwing Liu Chuanbin off.
Then it kicked its legs wildly and charged out like a madman.
Liu Chuanbin was thrown to the ground like a dead dog, and by sheer bad luck, the horse’s left hind leg landed on his right arm.
He cried out in pain and fainted, and because he was suffering from diarrhea, he also lost control of his bowels.
His followers panicked and rushed forward, not caring about the mess, and lifted him up.
The horse, however, calmed down after running only a short distance and stood obediently by the roadside.
Liu Chuanbin’s feet were stained with leopard urine, and the horse naturally feared it.
But once it was away from the smell, the horse became docile again.
But at this point, Liu Chuanbin’s followers had no time to worry about the horse. They carried Liu Chuanbin to the nearest medical hall.
Everyone upstairs heard the commotion, and when they looked out the windows, they only saw Liu Chuanbin being carried away.
“What happened?” everyone wondered, “Did he fall off his horse?”
“Changan and I will go take a look,” Qiao Ziyu said, standing up. “Too many people will just cause trouble.”
The two of them then went to the medical hall. Liu Chuanbin was howling in pain, and several people were holding him down.
His right arm was broken by the horse’s hoof, and his lower body was a mess, filling the entire medical hall with a foul stench.
Qiao Ziyu almost choked on the smell but had to endure it and go forward.
“Is Young Master Liu’s injury treatable? If not, give him some anesthetic powder! He’s in too much pain.”
“Yes, yes, Heir Apparent Qiao is right, quickly give our master some anesthetic powder and stop his pain.” The followers were all sweating profusely. They knew they had caused trouble this time, and the Prince would skin them alive when they returned.
Of course, someone had already returned to the mansion to report the incident. Not reporting such a major event promptly would be an even greater crime.
Qiao Ziyu and Gong Changan asked about the injury and then left, as they were just children and couldn’t help.
Coming out of the medical hall, Qiao Ziyu took a deep breath and said to Gong Changan, “This time, this member of the Liu family will have a long recovery. He won’t be able to attend the academy for a while, and we probably won’t see him again until next year.”
“He was probably just having bad luck today,” Gong Changan said with a casual smile. “Didn’t check the almanac before going out?”
“To be honest, it’s thanks to the two Heirs Apparent today,” Qiao Ziyu shook his head. “Otherwise, our families would have been implicated. The Liu family is notoriously unreasonable, and now that their precious heir is injured, those who dined with them are bound to be held accountable. Without the two Heirs Apparent, the Liu family would have surely come to our families to cause trouble.”
Qiao Ziyu’s words were not an exaggeration at all; the Liu family’s arrogance and high-handedness had been going on for a long time.
Although they were a noble family, some of their behavior was less magnanimous than that of poor families.
Many people avoided them because they were difficult to deal with.
Qiao Ziyu and the others usually kept their distance from Liu Chuanbin.
Someone once privately likened the Liu family to dogs raised by the royal family, fawning and eager to lick the feet of their masters.
Towards those beneath them, they adopted an air of condescension.
They returned upstairs and lost their appetite for food and drink, ending the meal hastily.
Ying Bai felt a bit guilty and said, “If I had known this would happen, I shouldn’t have accepted his invitation. Even though this has nothing to do with us, it still feels unpleasant.”
Ying Tong was indifferent and laughed, “That horse should be killed for daring to throw its master. Liu Chuanbin has always disliked studying, so this is a good opportunity for him to stay home and recover for half a year or so.
By the way, I wonder if he keeps cats. I’ll give him one of mine.”
Ying Bai, unaware of the cat situation, casually remarked, “Whatever one keeps, if it injures someone, it shouldn’t be kept.”
Unexpectedly, this remark struck a chord with Ying Tong, who was naturally displeased.
However, no one noticed this except Gong Changan.
Everyone went downstairs. Ying Bai said he was going to see Liu Chuanbin, and Ying Tong, though silent, also went along.
Feng Tianzhu and others, eager to see the spectacle of Liu Chuanbin’s misfortune, followed them.
Gong Bao’an stood on the steps and asked Gong Changan, “Fourth Brother, can you go home today?”
“It’s not convenient today,” Gong Changan said, placing a hand on his shoulder. “No one should be bullying you at the academy now.”
“Fourth Brother, Liu Chuanbin snatched the pill you gave me and ate it,” Gong Bao’an whispered. “His diarrhea, could it be related to that?”
“How could he have eaten it? If you eat this, you can’t drink alcohol,” Gong Changan also lowered his voice. “But since it’s already happened, we can only keep silent and tell no one. The Liu family is not easy to deal with, and it would be bad if they blamed us for this.”
Gong Bao’an nodded vigorously. “I know, Fourth Brother. I won’t tell anyone. He deserves it. Who told him to snatch our things? It’s not like we intentionally wanted to harm him.”
Gong Changan also nodded. “Yes, this is what they call ‘He who does injustice will perish by it’.”
Gong Bao’an did not know that Liu Chuanbin’s current predicament was entirely orchestrated by Gong Changan, and Gong Changan certainly would not tell him.
Afterward, everyone dispersed, and Gong Changan returned to the palace with the two Heirs Apparent.
Meanwhile, after Liu Chuanbin’s followers returned to report the news, the Liu family was greatly alarmed and rushed over.
By the time they arrived, Gong Changan and the others had already left.
They only saw Liu Chuanbin lying there, half-dead and reeking.
“My son, how are you feeling now?” Liu Chuanbin’s mother, Wei Shi, hugged her son and cried. “You were fine when you went out today, how did you get so injured?!”
“Mother… it hurts so much…” Liu Chuanbin’s face was bloodless from the pain. “Take me back quickly!”
“Alright, alright, I’ll take you back now. Don’t be afraid. I’ve already sent for an Imperial Physician from the Palace. The Imperial Physician will examine and treat you properly, so there won’t be any lingering problems.” Wei Shi said quickly, “Don’t worry, it’ll be fine.”
Liu Chuanbin felt that today was the worst luck he had ever had. He had never been so unlucky in his life.
He optimistically thought that after this ordeal, things would surely go smoothly from now on, as they say, “When misfortune reaches its extreme, good fortune begins.”
Little did he know that a greater calamity still lay ahead.
After Wei Shi brought her son home, she inquired in detail about what had happened.
Hearing that he had dined with the two Heirs Apparent, they felt indignant but could do nothing.
However, they later sent people to smash the medical hall to pieces because the doctor had allowed Liu Chuanbin to faint from pain three times during treatment.
