Chapter 240: Picking A Fight
The more he listened, Wei Chang emanated an intimidating aura, his eyes staring at Qi Wu like a venomous snake, as if he would bite him hard like a snake if he said even one wrong word.
Qi Wu had witnessed his ruthlessness, his eyes full of fear. “I, everything I said is true.”
After a moment, Wei Chang suddenly said, “Chop off his hands and throw them at the Qi Residence gate. By the way, tell Censor Qi that this is just the beginning gift; everything is not over yet.”
After speaking, he walked straight out.
Qi Wu’s face turned deathly pale. He thought that by confessing, Wei Chang would spare his life, but it seemed he was naive. He couldn’t help but curse Wei Chang.
“Wei Chang, you hypocrite, you don’t keep your word.”
But no matter how he shouted, Wei Chang did not turn back.
Soon, miserable cries came from behind.
**
“Crown Princess, you were too careless. How could you get injured so badly?” Wan Qing picked up a handkerchief to cover the pungent smell from the medicine, saying hypocritically.
“Qi Wu went too far, daring to injure even you, the Crown Princess.” Sun Tina said indignantly.
Last time because of his matter with Lin Tingting, their Sun Family became a joke in the Capital. She had long been displeased with Qi Wu.
But she hadn’t expected this person to now have the courage to even come assassinate the Crown Princess.
Jiang Ruanxi actually didn’t bother to deal with them and had no energy to, but some matters she still had to act out.
“What are you here for? To see This Palace as a joke?”
Wan Qing smiled smugly, but her mouth showed another face. “What are you saying, Crown Princess? We’re just here to care for you.”
Sun Tina nodded along.
“Your care is received. This Palace is tired; you may leave.”
She felt her stomach churning, as if she was about to vomit.
She had originally kept her pregnancy hidden from them. If she really vomited, these two would definitely suspect her.
Jiang Ruanxi viciously sent them away.
Wan Qing, who had come just to see the joke, wasn’t going to leave so easily.
Smiling, she said, “Crown Princess, you are weak now and can’t do other things to pass the time. This concubine is here to keep you company and pass the time. If Crown Princess drives this concubine away, this concubine will really be too heartbroken.”
After speaking, she picked up a handkerchief and pretentiously dabbed lightly at the corner of her eye.
Jiang Ruanxi felt utterly speechless inside.
She wasn’t a fool; she could still see through her acting.
“This Palace is tired; leave.”
“Crown Princess, are…”
“This Palace may have some conflict with the Crown Prince, but after all, This Palace is the one he properly married. What, after a few days of favor, you won’t even listen to This Palace anymore?”
This threat stunned Wan Qing.
She hadn’t expected the usually easy-to-bully Crown Princess to toughen up.
She herself was a concubine’s daughter. Once she gained power, plus with the Empress’s support, she had almost forgotten that this Crown Princess still had such imposing presence. Seeing her now, even while injured, emanating an intimidating aura, she couldn’t help but feel intimidated.
“This concubine takes her leave. Crown Princess, take care of your health.” Sun Tina said nothing, obediently curtsied to her, and retreated.
Wan Qing thought for a moment, then quickly followed her out.
They had just left when Jiang Ruanxi felt her stomach churning again. She lifted her head and vomited toward the bed beside her.
The movement tugged at the wound on her abdomen, causing pain so intense that cold sweat beaded on her forehead.
But her stomach felt uncomfortable, so she could only press lightly and vomit.
After vomiting, her back hurt so much that her clothing was soaked through.
Jiang Ruanxi gasped heavily a few times before feeling the pain lessen.
“Yushui, help me pour some water in.” Jiang Ruanxi called weakly.
A strange maidservant entered.
“Crown Princess, what’s wrong? Why did you vomit? I’ll go call the Imperial Physician.”
The maidservant said this and was about to leave.
“Stop. It’s just nausea from moving the wound; no need for the Imperial Physician. Go pour me a cup of water, then clean this up before leaving.”
Jiang Ruanxi quickly stopped her.
If she let her call the Imperial Physician, her pregnancy would be exposed.
The maidservant was half-believing but obeyed her words.
After pouring her water, she stepped forward to clean up the vomit.
Yushui had always been by her side. Jiang Ruanxi felt a bit doubtful why Yushui hadn’t appeared this time.
But she didn’t ask more, instead feeling guilty, silently digesting her emotions somewhere.
After drinking the water, Jiang Ruanxi felt much more comfortable.
She had planned to change clothing, but with Yushui absent, she didn’t ask this maidservant to help.
After the maidservant left, though very tired, Jiang Ruanxi couldn’t fall asleep no matter what.
Thinking of the many difficulties they would face in the future, she and Wei Chang could originally handle them, but now with a little one added, she felt extremely worried.
Her hand unconsciously rested on her belly.
But thinking of the child she and Wei Chang had conceived here, she felt very happy and content.
She felt she had immense power to resist those enemies.
**
“Knock knock.”
The sound from outside the door interrupted the chaotic scene inside.
“What? Get lost.” Lin Ningkun’s impatient voice came from inside.
The person outside was stunned for a moment but continued, “Young Master, you told us to watch the Crown Prince’s Manor. There’s a situation.”
The movement inside stopped, and soon the person inside opened the door.
A foul smell wafted out. Disdain flashed in the man’s lowered eyes.
Lin Ningkun didn’t notice and eagerly asked, “What situation?”
Recently, he had offended Jiang Kui, who now had no trust in him at all. Even if he wanted to see him, he couldn’t.
Not to mention the incident a couple days ago where he was stripped naked and hung on the city wall, causing him to lose all face.
Now, only by making contributions and going to claim merit from Jiang Kui would he trust him again, continuing to let him be Young Master Jin, the former top figure, instead of the current street rat-like Lin Ningkun.
“The Crown Princess was stabbed by Qi Wu and is now injured.”
Hearing it wasn’t about the Crown Prince doing something treasonous but about a woman, rage rose in Lin Ningkun’s chest, and he kicked the man in the chest.
“Useless! I told you to inquire about the Crown Prince’s matters. Why tell me about a woman?”
The man felt very wronged.
A few days ago, Lin Ningkun had instructed them to watch the Crown Prince’s Manor, with special focus on the Crown Princess. If there was any movement, report it to him immediately.
But he didn’t know that now Lin Ningkun had no mind to care about Jiang Ruanxi’s matters; he was single-mindedly thinking of making contributions to regain Jiang Kui’s trust.
“Get lost.”
Lin Ningkun was in a very irritable mood.
The man didn’t dare stay and scrambled away.
Thinking of the frustrations of this period, Lin Ningkun angrily kicked the doorframe hard, causing him pain and flailing wildly.
A woman came out from inside and leaned against his chest. After the pain, Lin Ningkun didn’t even close the door and reentered the chaotic entanglement.
